In the year 1750, began advancement in technology known as the industrial revolution which started in Great Britain and spread globally. The access to trade, wealth, education, resources, and population caused the industrial revolution to begin in Great Britain. While the industrial revolution caused higher wages and extension in railway systems, it also resulted in cruel punishments, harsh working conditions, and terrible accidents. The industrial revolution improved conveyance and pay for everyone during this time. Over time the wages in Britain increased by heaps. From the year 1850- 1890 the wages increased from 90 to about 165 (document5). As a result more money was given to the workers so they could provide for their families. Railways
improved, which allowed people and goods to travel faster and more efficiently (document1). Before railroads people would be transporting goods by foot and that took forever. Altogether the industrial revolution made people’s pockets jubilant and caused more traveling. Although there were varied positive effects there were some terrible punishments. The kids and teens would attain a beating; the man would usually pull up the clothes of elder girls and hit them with his hand (document 1). This is cruel because no one should be doing this to innocent kids. The kids would be punished if they were not feeling well (document 2). You should not punish kids for something they cannot control such as sickness. Ultimately, the kids were given unfair punishments for different reasons just because the boss was abusing his power. The workers received inequitable amounts of money. The bosses would work the people as long as they wanted, even the kids would work a lot of hours (document 3). No one should do work for countless amounts of hours and only get paid for doing half as much work as they did. Some people could not leave work, they were directed to work endless hours and they didn’t get any sleep (document 6). That is crazy, some work that is being done is free labor and that is unfair due to the fact that one should be used like that. Terrible things were caused by working in these factories. Children, many children received injuries from machinery (document 1). It is wild how they allow children to work machinery when they know how dangerous the machines are. People were dropping dead and horses as well on the roads; they were working too much in the heat (document 3). They were worked until they could not work anymore because they were dead.
The Industrial Revolution began in England during the late 1700s, and by the end of its era, had created an enormous amount of both positive and negative effects on the world in social, economic, and even political ways. The revolution began to spread across the world, raising the standard of life for the populations in both Europe and North America throughout the 1800s. However, even with all of its obvious benefits, its downsides are nonnegotiable, forcing workers into horrendous living and working conditions, all inside of unkempt cities. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the railroad system, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s
The factory whistle blows right in the middle of your favorite dream. You wake up in a startle as you glance at the clock. 5:30 am. You rush to get out of bed, seeing that you have to get to work in 30 minutes. You splash some water on your face, brush your teeth, put on some fine factory clothes, pull your hair back, grab an apple and run as fast as a gazelle. The Industrial Revolution had both positive and negatives on the lives of adults and children during that time period.
The impact of the Industrial Revolution was a positive experience for some, but it was a great difficulty for others. Because of the demands for reform and protection for workers arose, government and unions began to take place. That was how the evils of the Industrial Revolution addressed in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The industrial revolution had mainly negative effects. The industrial revolution was a time in world history that has technically never ended. It is the time when society started to mass produce goods in order to provide enough goods for the booming population. People started to move from villages to cities where factories were looking for workers. New medical advances were made and people began to live longer. While some might argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the increased amount of new and cheaper products, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were the dangerous and sometimes lethal work areas, poor living conditions and cramped housing,
During the Industrial Revolution, societies were transformed. The period between 1750 and 1914 significantly impacted Britain and India, but the outcomes were distinctly different. While Britain experienced economic growth and increased power, production, and distribution, India's impact was limited. Although working conditions may have appeared similar, the reality was quite different. Initially, Britain's economy grew significantly, while India's outcome differed notably.
The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain is recognized as a period of great industrial capitalism, machine development, and emergence of the working class.1 The growth of factories began shortly after Richard Arkwright patented the spinning frame in 1769.2 Factories allowed for hundreds of unskilled workers to find jobs running machines and drastically changed their lifestyles as jobs moved away from rural areas. The putting-out system, where jobs were subcontracted, slowly came to an end because work became centralized in factories. 3 Few industries continued on with domestic manufacturing such as the iron industry. At the height of the Industrial Revolution, few laws had been passed to protect all workers.
One of the effects the Industrial Revolution caused were the growth of population. As factories developed in cities, many people began to move to these cities for job opportunities. In the 19th Century, the government began to obtain intermittent polls and track the number of births, deaths and marriages (Spielvogel 609). By 1800, London had a population of one million (Spielvogel 611). The number of deaths caused by diseases such as plague and smallpox also decreased dramatically. There were many advances that were made in medicine which led to people living longer than before.
The Industrial Revolution consequently began as a result of Great Britain’s wealth, resources, population, education, and access to trade. Although Industrial Revolution improved the rate of wages and life expectancy, due to the deformities, life-threatening punishments, and atrocious accident that occurred within the working facility.
A growing population resulted in a greater demand for Great Britain. They were the first to start the Industrial revolution. With their invention of the steam engine transportation of goods and people boomed, railroad, canals, etc. which resulted in a new class system. Before people lived in small communities and their lives revolved around farming, but with the start of the revolution more people and laborers moved to the city which had become urban and industrialized. New banking techniques such as corporations, partnerships, credit, and stocks were invented. Everything used to be made in people’s homes using handmade tools, yet now everything is done in factories using mass production. The three major materials cotton, coal, and iron were the up and coming new products used during the industrial revolution. Cotton was used for the textile industry, coal for steam power, and iron for the new types of transportation. There was also an improvement in living standards for some, but the poor and working people had to deal with bad employment and living conditions. When the laborers moved to the cities clocks and
The Industrial Revolution brought mass advancements in technology to the people in Great Britain, Europe and in other places in the world during the time of 1750-1850. Britain’s wealth, population, technology, education and resources led to it as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. While the Industrial Revolution increased work wages, it also consequently resulted in harsh punishments, poor living conditions, and deadly accidents.
The Industrial Revolution, which was a change from “domestic” work to new factories and machinery that began in England, took place during the 18th and 19th centuries. Women and children worked in farming, so when England “upgraded” to factories, they also “upgraded” their jobs. Women worked in harsh conditions, practically lived without seeing their children, and for long hours.
In conclusion, the industrial revolution brought many changes to Britain. The changes included the textile industry, the steam powered engines, which helped create steam-powered locomotives and steam boats. Because of this major improvement in the industrial revolution railroads began to sprout and was a more efficient way to transport goods and people across Britain. The Industrial Revolution no doubt brought rapid changes to people’s lives in Britain.
The industrial Revolution began in England in the 1700’s. The First Industrial Revolution contributed to the rise of capitalism in that it led to investing in factories, increased production and higher demands for raw materials, led to worldwide trade, new innovations and inventions. Changes in transportation, agriculture, and communication were considered the largest contributions to capitalism (Arellano, n.d). The new inventions led to building more factories for people to work. The wealthy people brought and managed the factories. The workers received a wage for their work. The addition of the machines used in the factories helped create the Capitalism economic system by creating the wage format for the people that worked in the factories (Walker,
The increase in population meant that there were more people in surplus from agricultural jobs and they had to find work in industrial factories, which was the basis of the Industrial Revolution. One of the darker causes for the Industrial Revolution was the slave trade with overseas colonies at the time. For many merchants who saw the easy money to be made from the voyages, the merchants became extremely rich – and as it is in human nature – these rich merchants wanted to become even more rich, the seemingly best way to do this was to invest profits from the slave trade into the new factories that were arising, this is called “Commercial Revolution”. Britain was one of the few countries that was able to bring in profits from other countries and keep profits in their country, aiding them into being the first country to Revolutionise Industrially. The new invention of steam power was one of the great motives for the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, steam was used to power many of the machines, thus with the invention of steam power, the Industrial Revolution was powered onwards.
The Industrial Revolution began in the mid eighteenth century (1750) and ran through to the early twentieth century. The revolution began in Great Britain and spread rapidly across Europe and America forever changing the world. It modified the way people both worked and lived. During the revolution social changes in agriculture and technological changes in the production of goods occurred. Revolutionary ideas also saw Great Britain become a dominant world power at the time. Despite the early social problems of atrocious living and working conditions created by the industrial revolution its long-term social reforms including; the Factory Act of 1883 outweighed the short-term issues that were encountered. During this period of dramatic change the industrial revolution was responsible for some of the worst working conditions known to man, particularly for young child that were forced into a child labour work environment.
