I believe everybody is a Master Artist.Whoever created the work should be the master of that project, being the master artist. The definition of apporopration, according to ARTLEX.com it says “To take possession of another's imagery (or sounds), often without permission, reusing it in a context which differs from its original context, most often in order toexamine issues concerning originality or to reveal meaning not previously seen in the original.” The project I chose is “The Last Supper” that was created by Andy Warhol. According to themordern.org “ None of the paintings in Warhol's The Last Supper series are directly based on Da Vinci's original mural, which has become one of the most recognized images in the artistic canon. Instead, Warhol's paintings are based on reproductions of the original, made possible through art …show more content…
For example, According to artnet.com “The Last Supper" suite is an anthology of Warhol riffs. The painting appears whole, as a double-silkscreened image, washed in the medicine-bottle hues he loved -- green, blue, yellow, rose-red -- and in details, executed by Warhol in deft outline. The show includes two big versions of the painting, Christ 112 Times.” So he used these colors for his liking. If you look at the color theory you will find out that red can mean love, light blue-strength or cool, orange- energy or excitement, purple- being the most powerful , yellow- happiness . All these color are positive rather then negative, and may have been used to create his version of “The Last Supper” being a positive message with his choice of colors .The Artist behind the “The Last Supper” is Leonardo de Vinci. Lenardo was born in 1452 and was known for his work of “The Last Supper and “Mona Lisa”. Leonardo was not just a painter according to biography.com he “studied the laws of science and nature, which greatly informed his work as a painter, sculptor, architect, etc.” He is inspiring to many artist and made a leading light of Italian
This is an extremely high relief sculpture made of limestone. It is to be viewed from a frontal standpoint. It however does have a potential for movement. There seems to be a great deal going on in such a close space. It is very crowded, but dramatic. The figures are intertwining with each other all at once even though there are different things happening. It reminds me of a play with scenes. You can actually step in to it and feel as though you are a part of what is happening because of all the different directions each individual is facing.
A distinction of colors exists within the painting: there is dreary dark blue background contrasted by the intense shades of red and white worn by the figures. A specific example of this the women flanking the Virgin Mary. The woman to the right of Mary attracts the most light and is the brightest in color. The Virgin Mary herself is dark, dull, and shadowed. The woman behind Mary, similar to the other woman, is wearing red and bright. In reality, the lighting of these figures do not make logical sense. If Rosso’s mission was the depict reality than the women would be shaded evenly from light to dark. Due to the overall lack of a single swath of colors, the eye is forced to look all over the painting rather than focus on one main
Leonardo’s version of the Last Supper was painted El fresco depicting the scene passively without emotion. The work has the supper table horizontal across the lower third and Jesus and his twelve disciples dining behind it, before a backdrop of both man made structure and natural landscape. The artwork is un-cluttered and simple. The lighting is subtle and non-dramatic. Colour is conservative and dull this is partly due to the limited paint available and the technique and decay of fresco painting. The wor...
Andy Warhol, born as Andrew Warhola, is famously known as the leader of the pop art movement back in the 1950’s. One of Warhol’s most famous prints is Campbell’s Soup Cans consists of thirty two canvases lined up in a row of eight and columns of four; another of artwork of Warhol similar to this is Green Coca-Cola Bottles which consisted of 210 Coca-Cola bottles. Many of Warhol’s artwork consisted of a subject repeated and cloned multiple times. Many would say it was because Warhol was raised during the time period where factories began the mass produce, which does contribute to his artwork. But, Andy Warhol was also an incurable hoarder. Warhol wrote in his autobiography that his conscience wouldn’t let him throw anything away, even when
Art, by definition, is “something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings”. Throughout history, one way that art has been used is to reflect a multitude of ideas and beliefs. Christian beliefs and ideas have been portrayed in artwork since the beginning of Christianity, although, it was not always acceptable to do so. The idea of the final judgement is a Christian idea that has been displayed in art repeatedly in a variety of ways. Michelangelo’s fresco the Last Judgment (1536-1541) is a piece that visualizes this idea. Since the time it was finished, this significant piece found in the Sistine Chapel has been continuously critiqued and analyzed. Many Christians struggle to interpret the event of a final judgment after reading it through Scripture. In analyzing Michelangelo’s piece, it is similar difficult to determine what he exactly meant to portray and what the various part of his masterpiece represent exactly. Many have examined this piece and made different regarding what exactly the various figures and objects are supposed to represent. The diverse interpretations of this work further shows the idea that when Christian ideas are reflected through artwork, it is hard to ascertain exactly what an artist intended to demonstrate. In addition, the controversies surrounding this piece represent the idea that when Christian ideas are revealed through art, there is potential for disagreement regarding what should and should not be included in Christian art. Michelangelo’s Last Judgment is just an example of what results when Christianity is brought into art.
Leonardo da Vinci and Andy Warhol are legendary in the art world and their masterpieces are one of a kind however when comparing the two the renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci is vastly superior when mastering an art collection.
As a profound influence on the twentieth century pop art movement, Andy Warhol ascended to become a cornerstone in the modern art world. After taking cues from society in the mid-twentieth century, as well as conversing with Muriel Latow, Warhol did what many artists strived to do but failed. Andy also extracted many of his ideas from other artists and built on them. He put a culture on canvas and revolutionized pop art for a life time.
...th color, the way he used color when it was used conveyed what was important in the piece. The body as it hangs lifeless from Saturn’s death grip is dripping with blood and it is even between the white knuckles of Saturn. In having Saturn’s knuckles white it emphasizes his grip that is so strong on the body he is drawing blood from the back. It is showing his passion in that the deed has to be done. His expression is wild and his stance is cowardly showing that he may not have wanted to do what he was doing. The message in the painting is that time consumes us all, and that is by having the god of time eating a faceless body. There is another message in this too, I believe and it is that people will do almost anything to keep their reign in power. I found this painting very stimulating and gave me many emotions. I think just because of that the piece is successful.
He meant to get his ways of thinking out there for the world to see. He knew that if you were a deep thinker and learner as him, you would see and understand the way he saw and understood. He knew it would be a great asset to the Renaissance period and that he would leave an imprint on the world to view. I could tell that in the painting of The Last Supper that, he wanted you to be in deep thought and wonder what Jesus could have been talking about with his disciples. It has been rumors of what he was saying, but the truth is nobody really knows. It gets you to thinking because you are wondering like what he said, what they said back, what his reaction was when they did respond and what the ending result was. With the Mona Lisa, it leaves you in deep thought because you want to know what could she be smirking about or did he even mean to have that smirk on her face. He wants you to wonder what was the point of adding the slight smirk to her face, or could you just be seeing a smirk that actually was a frown. The memories and emotions of the artworks were based on religion and his thoughts of how a woman should be portrayed. The Mona Lisa looks innocent, natural and pure. It shows realism in the portrait, because of the way she is positioned in the painting. I believe Leonardo da Vinci made this artwork to compare the Mona Lisa to a mother-figure or his mother in particular. In conclusion, the Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples focused on what was happening at that time. I think he based it on the bible, but translated them into his own thoughts to show that it is possible to read something and comprehend it on a different level than how it was
The last supper of Jesus is a classic and often rendered event. Firstly, the artist utilizes emphasis in this piece. Jesus is depicted at the center of the table, with an overpowering halo over his head. The viewer’s eye immediately is attracted to this focal point. Using emphasis in order to stress the importance of Jesus not only allows the viewer to immediately know who this piece is about, but it also allows the viewer to see his humble importance in a visual way. This piece was created in a time of vigorous Christianity, therefore the artist clearly wanted to depict Jesus in a matter where he was important and pure, accomplished through the use of the halo. Jesus is also the only one looking directly at the viewer, adding to the sense of emphasis as everyone else in this piece seems to be distracted. This use of emphasis through placement and a halo is also utilized in The Last Supper, by Dagnan-Bouveret, as well as in the many pieces depicting this event. This creates the sense that Jesus alone knows the truth and he alone can communicate it to the viewer. Furthermore, the artist also utilizes balance, as although Jesus is the center point of this piece, everything to his right and left remains in relative harmony. Although the balance is not exactly symmetrical, there still remains a sense of unity. This points to the notion that although Jesus is the head of the table and the most important, he brings unity to all of those around him. Even amongst the discord of the last supper, Jesus creates a sense of
The colors that Warhol used for the race riot are red, white, and blue. From my perspective I think Warhol did this to be slightly sarcastic and to make this portrait into a political paradox. My reason for saying this is because red stands for the blood that was shed for this country, white is for the trust that many people have in this country and blue is for the freedom that people proclaim to have in this country. In each slide of Warhol’s picture the red would stand for the blood that was shed in the riot, the white would stand for the trust in the law enforcement that people who were not oppresed gave to the law and the blue stands for the freedom that many didn’t feel like they received.
1, 3). These colors appear in Warhol’s work in the same order, if a person looks at the picture from top downward. While the word “gold” potentially referred to the girl’s outlook, it can be interpreted as an external factor; for example, the hue was created by the sunlight. A red general background can be interpreted as a color of passion, which is the main emotion in the song, where the narrator makes great efforts to find a girl he fell in love with. Warhol’s screen print becomes a good illustration for the song supporting its emotions and plot both by the color palette and
The Last Supper is a giant 15feet tall by 29 feet wide painting created during the Renaissance period in the 15th century. Da Vinci was commissioned by Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza and his duchess Beatrice d’Este. Da Vinci begin creating the portrait in 1495 and completing it in 1498. It is said that the painting of Last Supper is not a true fresco. Da Vinci decided not to apply paint on a wet plaster he experimented by painting directly on a dry plaster using tempura and oil paint. He used this technique to capture the look of an oil painting, but even within his lifetime it began to wear off.
The title of this work undoubtedly aids in interpretation. The title of the work is Last Supper, and that is exactly what the work is supposed to be. You can see Jesus at the center of the pic, and you can see he is surrounded by 12 other men, better known as 'The 12 Disciples'. There is definitely a focal point in this work, and rightfully so, there should be a focal point in the depiction of such a historic and profound biblical moment. The focal point in the work is Jesus and He is in the center of everyone. I also noticed that there is a distinct lighting and illumination differentiation between Jesus and the disciples in the picture. Jesus, being the focal point, appears to have the most light shining on Him. This was surely not something you can chalk up to coincidence, and I theorize it was done deliberately. The disciples closest to Jesus in the painting have more light than some of the others further away. I believe if we could see the work as it progresses, then ultimately all the disciples would have light on them and appear illuminating, which metaphorically would showcase the glory of Jesus spreading and radiating on the disciples. I believe the predominant color scheme most likely falls under the umbrella of analogous colors, and the enhancement of the colors utilized gives it a warm yet pretty and aesthetically pleasing sight. The work can be classified as representational since it is surely recognizable for what it is suppose to be, and because it is intended to represent reality. The work is intended to represent the actual last supper and it does a great job in accomplishing
"A picture can paint a thousand words." I found the one picture in my mind that does paint a thousand words and more. It was a couple of weeks ago when I saw this picture in the writing center; the writing center is part of State College. The beautiful colors caught my eye. I was so enchanted by the painting, I lost the group I was with. When I heard about the observation essay, where we have to write about a person or thing in the city that catches your eye. I knew right away that I wanted to write about the painting. I don’t know why, but I felt that the painting was describing the way I felt at that moment.
