Marc Chagall created this artwork in 1918 in Liozna and named his artwork “Over The Town”. It is oil on canvas and is currently located at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia. Chagall uses bright colors to better demonstrate the feelings that the two characters are experiencing at that moment. In the real life these two characters are Marc Chagall and his wife Bella Rosenfeld Chagall, flying around in the air in the foreground. The most two prominent colors in the painting are dark brown and dark red. Creating the mood that something might go wrong but as now everything is going normally and how it used to. Colors at the background blend into one another creating the feeling that everything there is in action and there is no . The representation
of the natural light in this painting is noticeable and original, you can see how sunlights are getting mixed with the clouds creating sad and happy atmosphere at the same time. One thing that also grabs viewers attention is the fact that there is not a symmetrical line kept in the painting, there are a lot of hills and on those hills are houses where people are living, differently shaped houses and really long fences which if you look closely are going to the infinity. As viewers we are up in the sky looking at the couple who are full of happiness, and the big village that we (the viewers) and two characters are looking, how happy and quiet place it is to live. The Space that is left with no houses at the background looks lonely and sad but looking at the picture it seems like in couple of years that lonely and sad space is going to become a happy living space.
Joseph Hirsch’s painting Daniel was painted in 1976-1977. In 1978 during the153rd Annual Exhibition of the National Academy of Design, it won the First Benjamin Altman (Figure) prize. It measures 38 inches by 45 inches (96.52 cm x 114.3 cm) with a five inch gold wood frame surrounding it. The medium is oil on canvas. Everything within the painting is centered to draw your eyes to the action of the turned head and the pointed finger. According to the placard next to the painting this is a modern day version of the biblical story of Belshazzar’s Feast following the sacking of Jesualism from the Book of Daniel. From this point on, each figure within the painting will be addressed as Hirsch intended. The painting depicts a seated king, a dozing courtesan and Daniel. The three figures are the focal point of the composition. Hirsch uses a strong color palette to give the painting a luxurious and wealthy feel. Although the detail is not miniscule, the composition as a whole is easily understood. The use of oil paint allowed Hirsch to play with the composition as it was created.
Gallery 19 of the Museum of Modern Art features Pop Art trailblazers of the early 1960s, ranging from Roy Lichtenstein’s “Girl with Ball” to Andy Warhol’s “Gold Marilyn Monroe.” Alongside these emblematic works of art, there hangs a more simplistic piece: a six foot square canvas with three yellow letters, entitled “OOF.” The work of art, created by Ed Ruscha in 1962, is a painting that leaves little room for subjective interpretation as does the majority of his work. Ruscha represented the culture in the 1960s through his contributions to the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art, efforts to redefine what it meant for a painting to be fine art, and interpretation of the Space Race.

The Code of the Streets by Elijah Anderson, is a groundbreaking essay the social scientist wrote, taking us inside of a world that most of us only read about. Anderson shows us how a frantic search for acceptance and respect governs social relations among the African American race; primarily the young men.
Color is used to draw attention to important characters and objects in the painting. The red of Mary’s shirt emphasizes her place as the main figure. A bright, yellow cloud floating above the room symbolizes the joy of the angelic figures. De Zurbaran uses warm colors in the foreground. The room, used as the background for the scene, is painted in dark colors utilizing different hues of gray and brown.
The painting "Guernica" was the most famous painting of the 20th century because it depicted an event that took place during the Spanish Civil War. After General Francisco Franco accepted aid from Germany and Italy to topple the liberal government of the fledging Spanish Republic. In return, Franco allowed the Nazi's to test their developing air power. As an experiment to see if an aerial bombing could wipe out a whole city the Germans bombed the town of Guernica on Apriil 28, 1937. The town of, Guernica was devestated and its population was massacred. As a reponse Picasso started working on "Guernica," which he completed in a little over a month. The painting has a length of 25 feet long and a height of 12 feet. Picasso chose to use no color
With an admiration for the unconventional, I am moved by Jackson Pollock’s Autumn Rhythm (number 30). If I could see any art piece in person, this would be my choice. I believe that Pollock’s radical painting style and the way in which he lay the canvas flat on the floor to work, gives this piece a deepened perspective. There is a visible control in the chaos to which Pollock has said "I can control the flow of paint: there is no accident." Seeing this piece in person would awaken my unconsciousness, and convey the feeling of spontaneity that I wish society will still embrace.

Through these disturbing images, and a masterful adaptation of the sonnet structure, Archibald Lampman summons forth The City of the End of Things.
Visually, both Wassily Kandinsky’s Composition VII and Jackson Pollock’s No. 2 constitute a chaotic arrangement of colors and images with no apparent relation to one another. The randomly scattered paint, large canvas, and over-clamped figures all build a similar visual chaos in both paintings. Despite the mayhem, the two paintings differ in the inner emotions each artist wanted to express and the nature of the “chaos.” While for Kandinsky the chaos represents the smooth and melodic sentiments raised by music, for Pollock the chaos depicts the more spontaneous and impulsive emotions. The authors’ differing goals lead Kandinsky to ponder and refine his painting to capture a more universal theme and Pollock to develop his “drip” painting method

The formal analysis of The 3rd of May, 1808, Francisco Goya, 1814, oil on canvas. In the following written composition I will examine The 3rd of May, 1808 in a context which will allow me to identify formal elements that Goya manipulated to influence the viewers with a specific outlining message. This work was completed in 1814 using oil on canvas medium. This piece of art stands at approximately 266 by 345cm. This was common for historical paintings to be substantially grander in size. Goya’s goal in this specific painting is to depict the sorrow and heartache connected with the Peninsular war. In this specific work The 3rd of May 1808 he highlights the honor of the massacred Spanish rebellions opposed to the savage French troops. This formal analysis will examine the important technique used by Goya to organize societies depiction of the visual information. Within this work I will concentrate on these elements of color, texture, shape, lines, space, and the value to bring about my own opinion of Goya’s work. Using this strategy applied to The 3rd of May, 1808 work I hope to demonstrate a comprehension how to translate what I see into written words.
The artwork that I picked out was by Edgar Degas Interior. It was created between 1868–1869 and can be found at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I picked this artwork because when I took Intro to Art in my freshmen year this artwork appealed to me because of its mysteriousness and agitation. When I looked at other works of arts by Degas I found this one very striking. There are no clear clues or answers to the questions that are raised when one looks at this work by Degas which makes it very unique.

In the conversations Chagall makes many references to poetry, but that is not surprising for to him his art is poetry. His concern was never with a movement but with the purpose of bringing to people the love and gaiety of his paintings. Chagall is known to use much more than a canvas as a showcase for his work. He is world famous for stained glass and mosaics from Jerusalem to the United Nations. For him a stained glass “is a transparent partition between my heart and the heart of the world.” In his paintings we see his childhood and homeland and for Marc Chagall his paintings are his memory.
The Two Bathers was influenced by the Mediterranean whiahc can be seen in this small piece of art with its meauserements of 12” x 9.5” crated in Paris in 1921. His work was inspired by antique statuary, from the Cycldic Islands. Pablo Picasso showed his art to his idol Andre Malraux:’ Only the sculptors of the islands found a way to transform “ fertility goddesses” into signs… its goddess, if you will, imean the magic object is no longer Fertilitty. In this painting it shows a sigh of fertility in my opinion while the women standing, is half hiding her nudity behing a white cloth which is a color of pureity, and the male lies on the ground while their vertical and horizaltal postions sturture the compostions.
My book report is about Vincent Van Gogh, as portrayed in the 1934 biographical novel Lust for Life by Irving Stone. Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter, who is most well known for his contributions to modern art. The novel covers a ten year period in Van Gogh's life, eventually leading up to his suicide in 1890. Within the book report, I will discuss Van Gogh's personality, his mental problems, and his relationships. I am going to be comparing the novel to the 1990 film, Vincent & Theo, directed by Robert Altman.
Vincent Van Gogh is considered the greatest Dutch painter, and highly influenced the 20th century art. In the era of the impressionism, Van Gogh was a post-impressionist painter whose work, notable for its beauty, emotion and color. One of his most famous paintings that caught my attention was the starring night over the Rhone and the café Terrace on the place du forum, Arles, at night. The reasons why the two paintings from Van Gogh caught my attention was that it has a lot of meaning and representation. For example, The starring night over the Rhone has a big river and on top you can see a lot of beautiful stars, for me that represents the beauty of nature and all the bright colors he uses on his paintings represents his passion towards painting. Furthermore, the painting the café Terrace on the place du forum, when I first saw the painting I didn’t really understand the representation and meaning, but observing it several of times I realize that it has a lot
