“Song for a Dying Planet” is a song that was written to raise awareness for the environment. It clearly states that we are living in a world that is dying and asks a very clear question “does anyone care?” The world has been highly polluted throughout the years and now this problem has grown and does not seem to improve due to the lack of participation of the community.
The fourth line of the song stated “We’re killing everything that's alive,” what this phrase signifies is that the world is dying and all the organisms that live within, and for only one reason we are destroying their habitats and feeding off their resources. For many hundredths of years’ humans have feed on the resources of the organisms that once inhabited the area we now live in. The businessman that construct this communities for humans to live within take very little caution or consideration on the damage they are causing to certain species.

Joe Walsh believes that little is done to improve the environment because people are paid to lie about the seriousness of the situation. At the end of the song it is written, “I’m sorry but I’m telling the truth, and for everyone trying to save it these songs are for you, too.” Walsh offers an apology to the few who care because there are a minimum and without the effort of the majority their efforts will be useless. He also apologizes for saying the truth because even though it hurts it has to be said how it is in reality.
