Time
According to the essay “Social Time: The Heartbeat of Culture” written by Robert Levine, every society throughout the world has a different perception about “time” that can be appreciated by comparing how different people of different cultures behave in different moments of the daily life.
Levine was able to make a research comparing two different cultures while living in Brazil as professor at a small town near Rio de Janeiro. Levine analyzed the behavior of Brazilian Students compared to American students at a University in Fresno (75). Levine’s first comparison was based on the fact that Americans always try to be on time in class, and when they don’t, they feel grieved about it, but his Brazilian students seemed that they didn’t care to be late and just gave him and excuse and briefly apologized. Levine also noticed that when the class was over, while American students were in a hurry to get out of the classroom, his Brazilian students took their time to pick up everything, and they were still asking questions about the class and others were just sitting on their chairs hanging out (76).
I agree with the fact that people of different cultures have different reactions in certain m scenarios. Everybody has a different perception of time. While some people are worried about being always on time and have their day well organized to complete everything they need to do taking advantage of every minute of the day, other people do not show interest on managing their time and usually create their own pace of life, which means that they do not follow a schedule and are open minded on doing several things throughout the day. One day I experienced something...

... not be as powerful as the fastest ones, but statistics have shown that these are the happiest contries of the world, while the fastest ones are more stressed because of the pressure that they have.
In conclusion, having and organized life were you are always on time and you complete everything that is programmed will make you a successful person, but not happ. I completely agree with Levine and his theory about time perception between different countries, but I don’t imagine myself following and agenda and already know what I am going to do the entire day. That is why these cultures like Japan or China or even America are always stressed and they only think about work. So I would rather make a balance between be on time and do everything I need to do but also have a flexible agenda were I can do things with my life that will make my life happier and relaxed.
time.” These behaviours and values are presented in a variety of forms including, fashion music, film,
The pace of life correlates with our endeavor to achieve success and upward social mobility. Every day we put up a fight against the clock as we try to fulfill our daily responsibilities and effectively run all our errands. Rushing to complete an irrational
The whole cosmos today is centered around the here and now. We thirst for everything to be done hastily so we can continue with our day. As a repercussion of that we tend to strategize our days in advance with activities to occupy
Chronemics, also known as the study of time, varies greatly from culture to culture. The American culture is very adamant about time, that if one is late to an event, a negative message is usually attached to their behavior. Arriving to class or to a meeting on time is a typical norm for this
The first problem Delpit identifies is the culture clash that often exists between students and the school. According to Delpit (1995) this cultural clash is manifested in two ways, through teachers misreading students intents, and abilities as a result of a difference in language and interaction styles, and al...
Being busy is no surprise to our culture. We face busyness everyday. It has become part of our culture. Almost everyone I know has some form of busyness in their lives, and if they aren't busy then they feel bad or guilty.
Introduction: For most of international students, the American campus life is full of challenge because of the cross-cultural adaption process. Once you step into a different culture, you will face the differences from external aspects such as food, dress and customs to the internal ones, such as values and beliefs. And anyone who first comes to the America will notice the Americans¡¯ attitude towards time. Why the Americans never seem to have enough time and always emphasize the time? This article will present some segments of my campus life in American University as an exchange student from China in order to explore the different time values in cross-cultural communication. A comparison based on these interesting experiences will help the reader to contextualize the issues for apprehending the particularities and differences between western and eastern time values. Some guidelines of time management will also be raised to benefit the international students who will step into American campus.
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
...lead to stress-another thing that is so common. If one chose to live simpler lifestyles and slow down their lives a bit and relax rather than overwhelming themselves with so much, maybe they would be able to enjoy their lives more. Managing time will lead to extra time to go out and create memories, and focus on living and being happy. When one departs from this world, they will think of their past and recall memories and become content with they fact that they did not let their time slip away being overwhelmed and completely trapped in the world while working their lives away to simply satisfy their materialistic needs. One will look back and remember that they lived a life of meaning, a true everlasting joy to know that they lived a great life.
Some people are born with the knowledge on how to maintain and manage their time and others learn it as they grow. I was not so fortunate. While I managed to keep my work areas organized and had somewhat of a routine to help keep my life in relative order, I was always struggling with “losing” time. It was a problem that always left me feeling guilty about not finishing on time while at same time I was overwhelmed about things that were piling up. I always procrastinated and never got things done the day I thought I should. When I was occupied at school or hanging with friends, I was constantly stressing about the many task I had to get done at home. Then when I was at home I would think about tasks that were left undone in the “outside world”. It was a never ending cycle that prevented me from being relaxed or enjoyed some days.
The scientific definition of time is a measurement of progress that is relative to an individual’s perception of events (HowStuffWorks.com, 2010). A psychological study proves that these viewpoints are
Being busy is better than being bored. Or that’s what it seems like to every American living in the 21st century. Conversations remain in endless small-talk, thoughts and actions become controlled by electronic notifications and ring tones, and life simply feels like checking tasks off of jam-packed agendas. Everyone’s inner drill sergeant seems to be hastening to conquer his or her overcommitted schedules. To many individuals, no matter how many ways they divide their time and attention, no matter how many duties they try and multi-task, there never seems to be enough time in a day to ever catch up. The default response to how one has been doing becomes “Busy!” “Crazy Busy.” “No time.” But the most absurd news is that such a lifestyle is perceived to be a kind of congratulation or boast, rather than a grievance. People want to be busy, as exhausting as it can get.
The problem of time management can be said to be universal not only affecting students but also other people in careers. This problem is seen to transition from a person’s life from different cadres of his or her engagement specifically from home, school and at work. It is also a problem that is internal and not external.
