WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?
“Great Leaders don’t set out to be a leader... they set out to make a difference. It‘s never about the role... always about the goal”
A leader is a person that holds a dominant or a superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others.
The activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this is known as
Leadership. Leadership involves - establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with others so that they will follow willingly, providing the information, knowledge and methods to realize that vision, and coordinating and balancing the conflicting

MY LEADERSHIP QUALITIES
This journal is a reflection of my leadership qualities which I realised through different experiences in my life. Some of the characteristics which describe me are as follows:-
HONESTY
According to me honesty is a very important quality which should be present in a Leader because this quality helps a leader to be transparent with his/her team members.
Whenever you are working with your team members it’s very important that your team members have an idea of the scenario in which you are working, what is your progress in your work, what would be the possible failures which might occur, and how to be ready to tackle the problem.
ABILITY TO DELEGATE
This is one of the important characteristic that a leader should have because a team has certain number of members who are different from each other in terms of personality, culture, Intelligence, behaviour etc. so it is very important that we find out that in
Leadership is about taking personal and social responsibility for working with others to achieve common goals.
Introduction According to the Oxford Dictionary, a leader is defined as “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2013). Though there is a definition for what a leader is, people still have different ideas about what a leader should be and how he or she should act. There has never been a concrete idea of what a leader is; the only thing we know is that this person is the one in charge of the unit. We look at characteristics of those people we see as leaders and use those attributes to compare other people to see if they are able to be as good as, or even better than, those aforementioned leaders. We have to keep in mind that in different situations, leaders must do different tasks which indicates the need for different qualities.
What is a leader? A leader is someone who takes command and leads an organization or group to success. Anyone can be a leader but in order to become a great leader you have to have to possess certain characteristics. I will be using Odysseus from the Odyssey isas an example of a leader who has suitable characteristics. You also have to know what harmful characteristics a leader may possess to determine if they are good leaders or not.
Leadership is the ability that someone has to motivate, guide and empower a group of people, in the particular case the personnel of an organization, in order to achieve specific goals.
According to Business Dictionary.com, leadership is defined as the individuals who are the leaders in an organization, regarded collectively. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.
The Girl Scouts of America follow a quote, which states; “Leadership is essential to getting things done. But the qualities of good leaders-self-knowledge, commitment, willingness to look to others for support, being open to change, and a desire to go the extra mile can determine whether anyone chooses to follow”. (Leader, 2004) This can be used as an example how a leader can make a difference when you have a supported team. Moreover, it is important for a leader to be proactive by thinking three steps ahead with the goal of avoiding problems before they arise. The article “Leading to Leadership” refers to this as preventive maintenance in which it helps change, grow and improve. Other qualities include initiative, flexibility, good communication, respectfulness, confident, enthusiastic, be open-minded, provide consistency, and delegate with professionalism. We all have the ability to provide leadership in some way or another whether as professionals, as paren...
Nelson Mandela was a well-known South African politician, philanthropist, and an anti-apartheid revolutionary, born on eighteenth of July 1918. He served as the South African President from the year 1944 to 1999. He is known as the first South African chief executive, and also the first person to be elected in a free and Democratic election. After he was elected, the government of Nelson Mandela focused on dismantling and destroying the widely spread legacy of apartheid that was reigning in South Africa. He tackled these issues by dealing with institutionalised racism, inequality, and poverty. He also made an effort to foster racial reconciliation (Downing & Jr, 1992). He served as the African National Congress President, as a democratic and an African nationalist, from the year 1991 to 1997. Nelson Mandela was appointed the Secretary General from 1998 to 1999, of the Movement of Non-Alignment. Mandela studied Law when he attended the University of Witwatersrand and Fort Hare University. He got involved in anti-colonial politics at the time he lived in Johannesburg. He joined the ANC and later became a founding and prominent member of the Youth league. Nelson Mandela came to power after the National party of South Africa. He ascended to grea...
Leadership is the ability of an individual to influence, motivate and inspire others (Gill, 2006). It is therefore defined as a process whereby a leader influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013). A leader has to make a decision for something to happen and provide his followers with clear direction (Rost et al, 1991). It will evoke feelings of challenge, excitement and involvement for the followers to proceed with the task (Gill, 2006).
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
Perhaps the most important qualities of a leader are passion and motivation. Especially when leading a group for a particular cause, a leader must be personally attached to that cause. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for example, is a legendary leader because he fought for a cause that directly affected him. had he not been pushing for a personal reason, his actions would not have been as passionate. This would have caused a lack in motivation, another essential leadership quality. A leader faces many roadblocks and opposition and thus, must be motivated to continue fighting and leading. A leader’s attitude and opinions are valued by the group and therefore, if a leader is motivated, the group will be, too. The continued actions and successes, no matter how small, which move the group closer to its goal also help its motivation and drive.
Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. Leadership in organizations has a different and more meaningful definition. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. The power point presentation explains leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context.
Leaderis a person who has strong ability to control and direct people in the right ways. There are 10 types of leadership, also there are many differences in skills between leaders and many different ways that each leader uses to treat others. Also Leadership has been described as "a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task". For example, some understand a leader simply as somebody whom people follow, or as somebody who guides or directs others, while others define leadership as "motivating and organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal".
Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. At this moment in my young personal leadership journey, I get my first glimpse of a leadership style, “shut up and listen.”
{Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a tremendous political activist in the late 1960’s. He was a lawyer and a member of the ANC who strongly disagreed with the apartheid regime; he used his talents for speaking and his courage to help change the unfair laws which oppressed blacks in South Africa.
