Resilience is ‘the ability to bounce back from negative emotional experiences by flexible adaption to the changing demands of stressful experiences’ (Tugade and Frederickson, 2004). Resilience minimizes the physical and psychological tolls of stress (Ahern, Kiehl, Sole and Byers, 2006). Based on a review of literature, the most widely accepted definition of resilience is as a set of personality characteristics or strengths that moderate the negative effects of the stressors to successfully cope with adversity (Ahern et al., 2006). Resilient individuals are believed to be optimistic, energetic, and humorous (Southwick, Vythilingam and Charney, 2005a). Such positive emotions have been linked with increased life satisfaction and psychological wellbeing (Tugade and Frederickson, 2004). Southwick and colleagues (2005a) found that positive emotions can increase tolerance to stress and reduce the associated effects such as emotional exhaustion and
“Hope is defined as the action of wishing or desiring that something will occur.” Hope helps people move forward in life to see what’s coming next for them. For example, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support” (Wiesel, “Night”.) This quote explains the effects of hope in a pitiful situation. Eliezer Wiesel and his father were torn apart, mentally and physically from everything they
Achieving my goals constructs the feeling of satisfactory and confidence me within myself, which is my number one
Resilience and hardiness has long been a topic of research and discussion within different paradigms and fields of study, for example, in military psychology, psychiatry, health statistics and measurement, medical anthropology, education, medicine and organizational settings. Resilience means the skills, abilities, acquaintance, and insight that accumulate over time as people struggle to conquer adversity and meet challenges. It is an ongoing and developing fund of energy and skill that can be used in current struggles (Saleebey, 1996; Liebenberg, 2005).Most commonly, the term resilience has come to mean an individual's ability to overcome adversity and continue his or her normal development.
Personality predispositions can determine levels of extraversion, which determine the levels to which one seeks social support, thus determining positive affect. Similarly, personality predispositions can determine levels of neuroticism that may influence one’s style of coping in the face of both positive and negative external factors which can determine negative affect (Diener, 1996). Happiness, a core aspect of positive subjective wellbeing, involves maintaining a superior level of positive affect in comparison to negative effect, based on specific positive or negative emotions linked to the recent experiences in one’s life (Emmons & Diener, 1985). Positive emotions such as joy and pride must trump negative emotions such as frustration and sadness in the recent past or present in order for an individual to feel happy. Life satisfaction builds on this and is a cognitive valuation of the quality of an individual’s experiences as a sum throughout their entire life (Emmons & Diener, 1985). Individual personality traits have been found to influence the different patterns and levels of life satisfaction, positive and negative affects and simply general, overall happiness (McCrae, 1983).
Some reearchers carried out studies to examine the association between resilience and positive emotion (Tugade, Fredrickson, & Barrett, 2004) Examining the role positive emotion plays in resilience, Ong et al. (2006) reported widows with high resilience levels experience more positive such as peaceful and negative anxious) emotions than those with widows with low resilience levels. The high resilience group showed greater emotional complexity which is ability to sustain the differentiation of positive and negative emotional states while underlying stress. They also suggested that the adaptive development of resilience is a function of an increment in emotional complexity while stress is present (Ong, Bergeman, Bisconti, & Wallace, 2006).
Famous English poet and playwright William Shakespeare uses “hope” in King Richard III as: “True hope is swift, and flies with swallow's wings: Kings it makes gods, and meaner creatures kings.” (Shakespeare) In this quote from Shakespeare, hope is liken to wings that elevates people during its existence, a power which strengthens people. During my research different sources, from academic writings to visual sources, discussed how the result of an aim is affected by “hope”. The results that I gained from my research have shown that people can’t achieve their dreams in the lack of hope. Hope is the irreplaceable element of success.
Success means to live a life in alignment with what brings us real joy. In my case, “success-joy” comes in many guises. At times, in being persistent with my current dreams, others, investing time and energy in what makes my life shine, and that is, without a doubt, when my life is at service of humanity and when I cultivate happy and healthy close relationships. I tend to define success as a state of being, a constant process of unfolding rather than a place to arrive. It is the journey of getting to know ourselves, in order to fully occupy every aspect of what we are; a forever changing aspiration, a state of being in which we realize that life’s greatest rewards spring from our capacity to relate to adversity in innovative ways. I have also discovered that real success shows up again when we debunk and deconstruct every single stereotype and assumption we have about ourselves. In this way, we feel capable to challenge what is commonly accepted as wisdom and then we have the opportunity to change and integrate our values with greater ones. There is an enormous joy when we feel free to play with the possible new scenarios that our imagination and creativity compelled us to try. A successful state of being is alert and grounded within us with the certainty, that the choices we embark on are in resonance with what we consider is the truth of what we are in that precise

Many researchers have agreed that hope is characterized by an expectation that a desired goal will be attained (Averill, Catlin, & Chon, 1990) ; (Bruininks & Malle, 2005) ; ( Farran, Herth, & Popovich, 1995) ; (McGeer, 2004); (Stotland, 1969). In contrast, Snyder presented a unique perspective, which says that hope comprises two appraisals occurring simultaneously: (1) the appraisal that one is capable of accomplishing the means to attain desired goals (agency thinking); and (2) the appraisal that one is capable of creating those means (pathways thinking). In his view, the experience of agency thinking plus pathways thinking is the experience of hope. In a sense, his view suggests that hopeful people believe that they are able to do something to obtain their goals.

Hope is believed in positive outcome related to events or conditions in someones life. Hope can encourage someone into wishful thinking. Hope can bring joy, love, peace and strength into someones life. it give us just enough light to find the light at the end of the tunnel. why do so many people buy a lottery ticket when they know deep down that they aren't going to win this is because that maybe for a little while it makes us feel happy, the thought and hope of winning puts a smile on our faces…..everyone hopes for different things and at different times. thats the beauty of hope.
What are the benefits of hope? Hope is a remedy for all sorts of hardships and misfortunes. Hope enables us to cope with stressful events, such as an elderly father who’s dying in a hospital bed. Hope motivates us to persevere when our lives are infused stressful life situations or painful events. The unemployed person searching for work is inspired by the image of a new job to pay the bills and purchase a few of life’s comforts, perhaps a television, iPad, new pair of blue jeans, money to fill the refrigerator with food.
They are better able to cope with life’s challenges, build and sustain stronger relationships and to recover from setbacks that can happen to anyone of us. However, just as it requires energy and a commitment to build or to maintain physical health, so is it with mental and emotional wellbeing. Improving a person’s emotional health can lead to a number of benefits that are related to all aspects of life: it can enhance the person’s mood, foster resilience and improve an individual’s overall enjoyment of
Success, is a term with relative meaning depending on what aspect of life it is associated with. I view success in terms of achievements, fulfillment, and accomplishments. I set goals, and I do what it takes to make them happen, by dedicating my time, intelligence, skills to achieve them. I make sure that at the end of the day I can be proud of my work, knowing that I invested myself a hundred percent. Goals are a very important aspect of life, they are like maps that guides you, because if you do not know where you are going, how would you know when you get there. All aspects of my life are intertwine, and accomplishing something in my personal life have repercussion on how I feel in my professional life, and vice versa. I do not measure success on the size of my bank account, the size of my house, or what kind of car I drive, but instead I assess how happy and filled my life is. Filled with family, friends, love, happiness, and that is what I use to determines how successful I feel.
