The criteria differs somewhat depending on which analyst you consult, however the main criteria of marketing segmentation include accessibility, defined or identifiable, stable or suitable and measurability. The Hilton hotel chain has met and far exceeds this criteria. Accessibility is obvioulsy met with the hotel chain being compiled of 574 hotels and resorts in 85 countries and on 6 continents, thereby targeting both national and international travelers. The definition or identification of the services target individuals that are accustomed to a more sophisticated lifestyle and tend to stay at luxury hotels and those individuals who perceive their social class as being high status. Market segmentation: basic strategies to identify segments and select a target market. (2012, January 30). Retrieved from Tisconsulting.org:
My group previously visited the Sheraton Hotel for our first interview with the front desk manager and it went very well. We decided to keep with the same hotel for our next interview, but due to a last-minute cancellation from the housekeeping manager we were not able to complete the interview. Due to this situation, I will be talking about a whole different hotel - G6 Hospitality. The name G6 Hospitality refers to the hotel brands – Motel 6 and Studio 6. I chose to G6 Hospitality because it is a well-known company that I wanted to know about more in-depth. From all my research, I have gained a lot of insight on what G6 Hospitality is all about.
Many factors should be addressed when defining a target market. These factors include market segmentation, product life cycle, and the four "P's" that make the marketing mix. Market segmentation is the process of dividing a total market into market groups consisting of people who have relatively similar product wants and needs. There are four major segmentation variables: geographic, demographic, psychographic, and behavioral. Geographic segmentation includes world region, country region, city, density, or climate. Demographic segmentation can consist of age, gender, income, occupation, education, race, religion, or nationality. Social class, lifestyle, and personality fall into the psychographic segment. The behavioral segment divides buyers into groups based on their knowledge, attitudes, uses, or responses to a product (Bethel, 2007). Once the market segment is identified, that market can be targeted.
The hotel is continuously expanding and in year 2010 announced plans to add over 600 hotel properties by 2015 mostly from emerging markets like India, China and Southeast Asia (reuters.in) Marriottt thrived by operating utilizing many different brands, several of which incorporate the Marriottt name in them. However, one of its most famous brand names stands alone: The Ritz-Carlton, with luxury hotels and resorts around the world. In October 1993 Marriottt Corp. was divided into two companies: Host Marriottt Corporation, which owns real estate and operates airport concessions; and Marriottt International, the lodging business. By 2004 Marriottt had about 255,000 rooms, with revenues of more than US$10 billion. In 2004, Marriottt controlled 17 percent of all branded full-service hotel rooms in the United States. In fiscal year 2006, Marriottt International reported sales from continuing operations of US$12.2 billion.

Caroline and Jennifer said that ‘Market segmentation is a crucial marketing strategy. Its aim is to identify and delineate market segments or set of buyers which would then become targets for the company’s marketing plans.’ (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) There are many ways to segment the market, such as age, region, environment, psychology and wages (Hall, Jones and Raffo, 2010).
Segmentation, targeting and positioning are the fundament of modern marketing (Proctor, 2002, p. 188, as cited in Harris and Schaefer, 2015).

History of Hilton hotel has been very interesting as it started as Mobley Hotel in year 1919 a small building. Because, when the company started it had no plans or ideas of expanding, the sole purpose was to serve as a place for the travelers to stay where they can comfortably enjoy a night or few and carry on towards their journey. After twenty-seven years of business and hard work, this small hotel went nationally in eleven states within United States, known as Hilton. Currently they have four thousand worldwide properties, either directly owned or franchised (including third party), in seventy-eight countries. Hilton even though allows franchises but there policies remain the same and direct Hilton officials do all the upper level management. The company name Hilton understands for Hosp...
Founded in 1919, Hilton Worldwide has remained a beacon of innovation, quality, and success. What Hilton Worldwide calls their mission statement imposes its worldwide high status: “We will be the preeminent global hospitality company - the first choice of guests, team members and owners alike.” Fierce competition, however, does currently exist among hotel corporations within the market. Marriott International, Hilton’s main competitor, currently stands as the third-ranked world leader within the industry (according to hospitalitynet.org), coming in after Hilton. Other competition faced by Hilton comes from Wyndham Worldwide, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and Best Western, to name a few. Affiliated with ten different hotel brands, Hilton Worldwide provides its guests with the advantage of choosing from any one of their 4,000 operating hotels located throughout 90 different countries. This has evidently contributed to Hilton Worldwide becoming one of the top leaders (ranked second to be exact) in the hospitality industry, despite their competition. The vision of Hilton Worldwide is “to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.” As the modern luxury hotel, Hilton has created a prestigious heritage with a modern attitude. The values of Hilton Hotels are stated uniquely, giving one value to each letter that constitutes the word for the hotel brand. “H” stands for Hospitality– “We are passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences”; “I” stands for Integrity– “We do the right thing, all the time”; “L” stands for Leadership– “We are leaders in our industry and in our communities”; “T” stands for Teamwork– “We are team players in everything we do”; “O” stands for Ownership– “We are the owners of our actions and dec...

The Hotel industry has become very important in the past years due to immense traveling and growth of international business. The Hotel industry not only plays an important role in the life of people but as well as the economy of the country. I spent an hour of my day relaxing in the lobby at the Fontainebleau resort in Miami, while on vacation with my family visiting from out of state. It was my first time staying at the resort so I was eager to check it out, after seeing such great reviews on Yelp and hearing great things from friends who have been there in the past. The employees working at the resort were very welcoming, professional and willing to go above and beyond to help their guests. The check-in process was very quick due to having
