Effective communication is very important in nursing to decrease errors and for safe and better patient outcomes. Communication is the medium by which leadership is conveyed to the group (Grohar-Murray & Langan, 2011). Most of the time the health care personnel are busy and have to convey a large amount of information to the patients or families or doctors or between the health care personnel in a short period of time and every one's personality and the way of communications are different. Assertiveness refers to the ability to express one’s feelings, opinions, beliefs, and needs directly, openly and honestly, while not violating the personal rights of others (Ünal, 2012). Assertiveness will protect us from being taken advantage of by others. A nurse leader should be assertive, and should make the right decisions. An active individual gets more opportunities and will have more strength to face the challenges and increases the self-esteem, than a shy person. It also helps us to feel good about ourselves and others. I should learn more to value or praise or provide constructive feedback to others in communication. Constructive feedback may reduce criticism and may help to gain the trust and confidence. When I speak and make my point clearly I get the attention span of the recipient. It also helps to reduce the confusion or dilemma of the topic of conversation.

On a daily basis, we come in contact with individuals that we have to communicate with, wither it be for work purposes, educational purposes, or social practices. As active humans we cannot escape the idea of socializing or communication, therefor; we make it a daily routine who we communicate with, how we communicate with them, what we listen to and how we listen it. With this routine habits are formed, some are strengths but others are weaknesses that diminish the communication quality. It is extremely important for individuals to recognize these strengths and weakness within their communication routine. By recognizing their strengths, they are able to improve even further and use their ability to get them closer to goals they may have set for themselves.
