Although there are many debatable topics psychologists tend to discuss, the Nature versus Nurture deliberation is, among society, one of the most widely known of them all. Many people have their own view on the subject however, I personally believe nature versus nurture is the question of whether human thought and behavior is influenced by environmental factors or genetic factors. The main factors that have greatly influenced my life would be my culture, my family, and the way I was raised. I was born into a Hispanic household in Puerto Rico on July 15th, 1998 however, I was practically raised in Florida. Although I was raised in the United States, my father’s family was not. fled, when given the opportunity by Fidel Castro, to America in order to provide a better life for my father and his siblings. Whereas my mother’s side of the family’s birth locations were scattered among New York and Puerto Rico. Nonetheless, I was brought up to celebrate the Hispanic holidays that my family grew up celebrating. However, the most infamous holiday of them all would be El Día De Los Reyes which is most popularly referred to as Three Kings Day. Traditionally, the entire population of Hispanic Christians living in any Latin country receive presents on January 6th as opposed to December 25th considering our holiday season doesn’t end until twelve days after Christmas. However, Hispanic children living in America today (like my family) typically receive their main presents on December 25th and a small special gift on January 6th. Nonetheless, the celebration of Three Kings Day includes the biblical representation of the birth of Jesus Christ which portrays a more accurate and spiritual version of the most commonly known holiday with the mythical figure who is said to bring gifts to all the good children of the world. Other than my family and my culture my life was mainly shaped by the way my parents had raised me. I was raised at a young age to work hard considering after completing fifth grade I went straight to eighth. Although many people believe the process of skipping grades is incredibly complicated it’s actually as simple as getting tested, being put into higher leveled classes, and doubling up in certain math and science courses. However, although the procedure to enter eighth grade as well as the completion of eighth grade was fairly easy, the work grew slightly yet progressively more difficult during my high school years. However, the persistent and diligent attitude my parents had established in me at an early age allowed me to work hard and graduate from Monarch High School at fifteen years old. Although my parents have implanted the attitude of persistence into my life there is something even greater than persistence that they had taught me- and that is the love of God. I was brought up in a Christian home practically straight from the womb. With my parents being members of the congregation, church was a natural part of my life so I placed my faith in Christ at the very early age of about seven. Nonetheless, I’m incredibly thankful for the way my parents chose to raise me because if it weren’t for them I would not have the determination as well as faith that I continuously live by today. The secondary factors in my life are the portions of who I am and who I would be regardless of the influence of others.
The main secondary factors consist of how I act, how I dress, and how I as well as others would describe myself. My style includes an array of ranges from semi punk to somewhat hipster to quite grunge. Which ironically is fairly similar to how my mother dressed since she was a teenager during the 80’s when the grunge style was just newly arising to the fashion industry. Nonetheless, my wardrobe mainly consists of worn down combat boots, charmed chokers, light as well as dark washed flannels, and ripped tights. Although many people would argue that an individual’s style is majorly influenced by societal standards and expectations of what is appropriate, I can firmly say that my style is solely based upon my liking and not those of others. In certain cases I will have to purchase clothing from online retails because the clothing the majority of teenagers wear don’t appeal to my style preference. Consequently, my clothing choices can tend to spark debate between the more conservative elders of today’s society however, I adamantly believe that wearing what makes you feel confident within yourself is what should be deemed …show more content…
appropriate. The next important secondary factors would my behavior and how I as well as others would describe myself.
I believe that my behavior varies based upon the situation I am placed into. If I am without familiar people in an unfamiliar location or situation where I am forced to speak to others, I will become increasingly nervous or anxious. Therefore, before properly becoming friends with me others may view me as simply quiet or rude because of my lack of words in certain situations. However, when people are genuinely kind and make me feel comfortable around them I tend to somewhat open up. Excluding my introversion in instances where I do not know anyone, I can surprisingly be relaxed and outgoing. When I’m participating in group activates with my friends we all instantly forget I’m even referred to as “the shy one” of the
group. After coming up with all the factors that have influence or played an important part in shaping who I am today I have come to the conclusion that I have attributed the overall person I am due to the “nurture” portion of nature versus nurture. All the environmental variables such as my family, my culture, how I was raised, as well as what I was taught to believe in have all been the major factors that have immensely, as well as positively, impacted my life. In conclusion, the completion of this essay actually taught me a lot about myself that I had never even realized. Starting off with the realization of the importance of family and cultural background. Knowing about where my family originated from actually allowed me to appreciate where they are now in life as well as where I am today because of them. I realized that I might not have even been here of it weren’t for them making a sacrifice and leaving their homeland in hopes of the opportunity of a better life for their children. Lastly, I learned how strongly I weigh the importance of my faith and how grateful I am to be raised in God loving family.
The nature versus nurture theory is a way to distinguish whether certain traits or characteristics of individuals are impacted more by biological means or environmental means. What the “nature” part signifies in the the theory is that we are more impacted by heredity and biological effects of our personality and what defines us as a person. What “nurture” signifies is that environmental factors have a more powerful impact on our lives and personality. As we mostly know, most things aren’t black and white, and so it’s hard ro determine which type of factors is more effective. Most people believe that it’s a blend of both nature and nurture that makes us who we are.
Nature vs Nurture is a concept in which multiple attributes contribute to different reasons as to why individuals behave the way that they do throughout their lives. These fundamentals are what essentially have the power to shape, make or change us.
One of the hottest debates is and has been nature vs nurture for years, but what is the difference between the two? Nature is what people think of as already having and not being able to change it, in other words, pre-wiring (Sincero). Nurture is the influence of experiences and its environment of external factors (Sincero). Both nature and nurture play important roles in human development. Scientists and researchers are both trying to figure out which is the main cause in development because it is still unknown on which it is. The best position to side with is nature. Nature is also defined as genetic or hormone based behaviors (Agin). Regardless of the involvement in everyday life, or nurture, this argumentation centers around the effect genes have on human personalities. Although it is understandable on reasons to side with nurture, nature is the better stand in this controversy. Reasons to side with nature is because of genes and what genes hold. Genes is what
The debate of nurture vs nature is classic debate among the psychological community. Is it one or the other, or, is it both? Nature is defined by the genetic code of the person. It takes into consideration DNA and biological connections. “Theories that base their understanding of human behavior on "nature," focus on characteristics that we are born with, like our genetic make-up, stable personality traits, and physical predispositions.” (Hartney, 2010). Nurture is quite the opposite. People on the side of nurture are of the opinion that it is the atmosphere that determines who a person is and becomes. “Theories that base their understanding of human behavior on "nurture," emphasize those experiences that mold and change us throughout our lives, such as how our parents raised us, what we were taught at school, and our culture.” (Hartney, 2010). Nurture and nature can be studied in various ways on many different types of people. The extreme classification though is when these theories are
Nature vs. nurture has been one of psychology’s biggest debates for decades, maybe centuries. Many studies have shown that nature rules seventy percent of our behavior but people hate that idea, especially parents.
Are we products of nature or nurture? Nature is when an individual inherits features that makes them behave and think a specific way. In contrast, nurture is when an individual’s behavior reflects their environmental factors. One of those factors consist of the people they are surrounded by and the positivity or negativity they receive from them. These two things determines whether or not if the behavior they display is hereditary or influenced.
There has been a large debate for decades over whether nature or nurture plays a greater role in shaping a person's personality. Nature refers to a person's genetic makeup while nurture refers to the environment that the person lives in. While nature plays a large role in a person's physical attributes, nurture provides an even greater role in creating a person's personality. Nurture has the ability to affect a person's physical, emotional, and social health rather than just their genetic makeup.
Nature vs nurture debate is one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology. It is the scientific cultural, and philosophical debate about whether human culture, behavior, and personality are caused primarily by nature or nurture. Nature and nurture are both equally important. They are the two are major influences that affect the person you grow to be and will determine what your children will be tomorrow. Nature refers to heredity, which are traits and features that are inherited from your parents and ancestors. At birth you, as a person, inherits 50% of each parent 's genetic material that are passed along through the chromosomes found in the DNA. Hair color, height, body type, and eye color are some examples of characteristics
The nature vs nurture debate is the questioning of whether nature or nurture affects your personal life the most. Nature is when genetics or human nature affects who you are and nurture is when human behavior shapes you as a person. Speaking of myself, nurture has the biggest impact in my personal life. My social environments have played an important role in my life.
The use of nature versus nurture has been a large debate among psychologists and has been tested on multiple occasions. The use of nature in which genes and genetics affect how people act versus nurture, where people are raised in a specific manner affect how people act. But what is truly the culprit of serious crimes in the world. Psychologists have done extensive research on cognitive psychology and the social environment and biological factors.
Nature VS. Nurture is a very controversial topic from what I’ve learned is that nature is human instinct to learn, create and do. Nurture is to learn from another, like your mother, father or peer, and inherit their knowledge, as well as culture to carry on the creation from where they have stopped.
A normal origin story is supposed to be full of emotion well, this is not your normal origin story. Some people have a “Easy” life and others do not, I guess you could say that I was one of the lucky ones. I had a great family who loved me. School was…well easy. My brother and I admire S.T.A.R. L.A.B.S. one of the most innovative in new technology and we hope to work there one day. Speaking about my brother I have one adopted brother Barry Allen, see my father Joe West raised him ever since his mom died and his dad was accused of her murder. Barry and I have alway liked detectives and We work at Central City Police Department. Everything was great until the accident happened.
What exactly is evolution? Well.. it's me. You're probably wondering what the neck I'm talking about, but yes it's true I am evolution and I'm here to tell you my story. This isn't just any story though, this is a story of plot twists, pain, and happiness.
The way I was raised by my parents and events that I faced throughout my life shaped my personality into what it is today. Although I was born to two outgoing parents I am a very shy person who prefers staying home and avoids parties. My parent’s protectiveness caused my enjoyment in spending my time alone. My experiences with friends have caused me to be selective when it comes to making friends. My exposure to culture caused me to relate to the western culture more than my Hispanic heritage. This paper has also helped me get to know myself and how other see me a little better.
Have you ever wondered where you got your personality from? The nature and nurture debate is a discussion about whether being raised shapes your personality more, or genetics which you get from your parents. Nature is genetics from the parents and makes the features of you. Nurture describes what you’re parents act like and if you act like them now. Nurture affects the child’s brain by everything the parents do with the child and how the child will act. Nurture reflects on how the child will listen and how the child will act. Nature and Nurture are both very important in a child’s life but nurture is more important. Nurture is how they treat you and how much they take care of you, which is an important part of growing up.
