Introduction
In developing my ability to analyze conflict from different theoretical perspectives, I have learned through different theories how to practice different steps to manage my reactions to them. What I hope to accomplish within my paper is a general broad overview analysis of my experience with both Interpersonal Theories and Relationship Theories. I also wish to explain how when conflicts do arise, the steps on what people should do when making choices when they communicate in conflict situations. The reason why conflict is worth examining and experiencing, is because it shows us how we can develop better communication with the foundation of our mistakes; and what we can learn from them. By learning from our mistakes we can expect to gain more knowledge on how to acquire different behaviors to manage conflict.
Conflict Description
Now in explaining my conflict, it involves someone who is very important to me in my life. The person I am referring to is my girlfriend Maria. Maria and I having been together for two and a half years and things seem to be going pretty well. We both enjoy each other’s company and when we do spend time together it usually involves us having fun. There is never a dull moment when we are together and we both strive for and work towards are success. When it comes to school or work we always support each other in any positive way we can. Now in explaining on who holds the power, I would say that we both hold some sort of power when deciding different things in are relationship. There is not one person who indefinitely holds all the power in my opinion. When studying about the complexity of a person’s behavior, you can really she how things can so easily be resolved through simple communication. The way I can benefit from both these theories is by taking into account what they both mean. For Social Exchange I can take away that social behavior is the result of an exchange process by maximizing benefits and minimize costs, and for Uncertainty I have learned that people have a need to reduce uncertainty about others by gaining information about the problem at hand.

Also, conflict was seen different with everyone. Even culture has influence on conflict. Overall, I believe that patience would be most helpful in managing conflict.
The purpose of this paper is to explore conflict and ways to manage it. I chose to explore this topic in depth because conflict touches all of our lives. Whether it is at work or in our personal lives. Like most people when you have a bad day at work; I have a tendency to bring the frustration home. The way someone manages a difference can make conflict turn into a sphere of harm or a sphere of value. The sphere of harm is when differences are managed in destructive and damaging ways. Littlejohn states (2014) states, “Conflicts are managed so badly that damage is done to people, relationships, and, indeed, entire social worlds” (p. 188). If a party were to react to an indifference by using physical or verbal violence the conflict would move into the sphere of harm. In several occasions, conflict occurs in the communication of one or two people. Several people have thought of conflict as cases involving pouring of furious anger in a communication process. Nonetheless, conflict is the misinterpretation of an individual’s words or values (Huan & YAzdanifard, 2012). Conflict can also be due to limited resources in an organization (Riaz & Junaid, 2010). Conflict may as well arise due to poor communication or the use of inappropriate communication channel of transmission of information between the involved parties. Management of conflict has various conflict management styles that include avoidance style, forcing style, passive-aggressive style, accommodating style, collaborating style and compromising style. Workplace conflict comes in two different kinds: task involving conflict, which focuses on the approaches used in resolving the problem and blaming conflict that has the aspects of blame and never brings element of resolving problems between the conflicting parties. In a perfect world each relationship would have no issues. The problem is the real word isn’t perfect. Whether it is a marriage or a friendship many problems can arise. The question is why is this the case. Most people are picking these type of relationships, it would make sense to choose the one with the least amount of complications. Throughout the lifetime of an average human being, one will meet thousands of people, form hundreds of acquaintances, make many close friends, and have multiple romantic relationships. The idea that what encourages an individual to voluntarily turn an acquaintance into a close friend, or into a romantic partner, is that the relationship is seen as profitable is called the Social Exchange Theory. My opinion is that the Social Exchange Theory is the best relationship formation shown in the film. Marty, the main character, has low self-esteem because he has been dumped before. His brother is married and people are pressuring him to get married. He did not believe he was attractive enough to find a girl that will find him interesting. However, at a dance he met this woman who was being dumped. I think that Marty decided to get to know that woman because they both share that similarity. Also he saw that she is a reserved woman that may end up linking him too. As a result, he saw benefits of where that relationship would lead to. He thought that there was a common personality between them two that they could built a relationship from that.
There is no doubt that conflict occurs in every human institution including professional, unions, and educational and vocational environment. However effective exchange ideas through communication can greatly minimize the effects of marital conflict. Studies have suggested that couples remain married if they successfully manage their interpersonal communication on the basis of accommodating individual differences, problem resolving skills, forgiveness, collective decision making, empathy and above all positive conflict management.
Introducing a Social Problem One of the most significant social problems in the United States since World War II has been the abuse of illegal drugs. Under the federal law, there are many drugs that are illegal, ranging from mind-affecting drugs, for example marijuana, strong highly addictive drugs, such as heroin or crack cocaine. The top four most dangerous highly addictive drugs are Heroin, Crack cocaine, Crystal meth, and Bath salts. Heroin along with the other drugs, is an opioid drug made from morphine, a natural substance taken from the seed pod of the Asian opium poppy plant, heroin is very deadly when you take too much.
Prejudice is the unwarranted or wrong attitude (positive or negative) towards a person based exclusively on the individual’s membership of a social group. (McLeod, S.A) Prejudice people may not act on their attitude, meaning they can be prejudice towards someone but not discriminate against them. Prejudice contains three components of attitude i.e. cognitive, this is what we know about the object of our prejudice, affective, which is what our attitude and feelings are for an individual or group, behavioral, this is the behavior we exhibit towards a certain group or individual. In psychology prejudice is a clear example of social cognition.
