My selected aspect would be maid abuse. This specific topic has been selected as I came across an article regarding maids are at formidable expose to abuse. The article captured my attention as I ponder on how human can be unsympathetic and cruel. The article 'European Union Illegal Immigrant Maids Subjected To Sexual Abuse, Beatings: Report' is about Vienna-based EU Fundamental Rights agency consulting 72 migrants which are engaged in domestic work. The workers are at intensified risk of abuse (Jahn 2011).
The major reason why abuse pushes maids to extremity is because employers physically abuse maids without any due of consideration. Abusive employers often torture maids for a small fault or illogical reasons causes them to be disfigured and weak. Erwiana Sulistyaningsih, an Indonesian maid was abused by her employer until she is physically unfit to work (Hong Kong arrests woman in Indonesian maid abuse case 2014). Next, based on the video Malaysia Most Horrible Indonesia Maid abused News Report P2 (2009), the employer spilled broiling water and pressed an iron over ...
I believe my case study would be best suited after the chapter on sentencing. This would be beneficial to students as after reading about the history of sentencing
There are many different types of domestic violence. Physical abuse is the most obvious form, but this is not to say that outsiders always recognize it. Generally, physical violence causes bodily harm, using a variety of methods. Slapping, pushing, throwing, hitting, punching, and strangling are only a few methods. An object or weapon may or may not be used. There is not always physical evidence of physical abuse such as bruising, bleeding, scratches, bumps, etc., therefore, absence of physical marks does not necessarily mean physical abuse had not occurred. Physical abuse sometimes escalates to murder (Morris and Biehl 7, Haley 14-17).
Nurses encounter various challenges in the workplace. One of the most alarming trends is that they often become the victims of physical violence. It should be kept in mind that healthcare settings account for about 60 percent of all violent assaults that occur in various American workplaces (Gates, Gillespie, & Succop, 2011, p. 59). Additionally, more than 50 percent of nurses report that they suffered from physical abuse, at least once (Gates et al., 2011, p. 60). In turn, this tendency makes nurses even more vulnerable to the effects of stress. Moreover, they are likely to feel dissatisfied with their jobs. This paper is aimed at reviewing the scholarly articles that can illustrate the origins of this problem and its impacts on the experiences
Childhood maltreatment is defined as emotional or physical maltreatment and sexual abuse that has the potential to cause harm to a child (The relation) while childhood adversity refers to physical or emotional acts that may be potentially harmful to a child’s development (Relationship). Both have similar effects in that they have been found to increase the risk of the development of a psychotic disorder and psychotic symptoms in adults. Childhood maltreatment has been proven to increase the risk of developing depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia in adults. The studies observed in this paper will help to understand if childhood maltreatment and adversity has any effect on the social functioning of people diagnosed with psychotic disorders,
According to the National Center on Elder Abuse, there were more than 16,000 nursing homes across the U.S. as of 2010. Such facilities age some of the most vulnerable members of our society, the elderly and disabled. All too often, nursing home residents in West Virginia, and throughout the country, are mistreated by those who they, and their families, have entrusted with their care. However, there are things that people can do to help protect their loved ones from nursing home abuse and neglect.
During the 1980s and 1900s, domestic violence was one of the most unreported crimes that involve females and males getting hurt and dying. Kicking, choking, killing, and saying brutal or despise words that could hurt the victims physically or emotionally are considered domestic violence. In fact, many victims are afraid to seek for help. According to “The Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC), women account for approximately 85 percent of all intimate partner violence, with women aged 20-24 at greater risk” (Batten, par.16). Most pregnant women are at risk as well. “But underlying approach is still one that assumes the perpetrators are men and the victims are woman” (Haugen, par. 1). Moreover, both males and females believe that domestic violence is a solution to their issues.
one's life. These attempts have been made to enlighten society about a taboo topic that is rapidly forcing itself into the lives of all.
A child’s guardian or parent ignores the signs of an abused child, which leads to a malfunction to the child. The guardian or parent fails to seek a psychological therapist which can help intervene to cause less psychological problems. The mistreatment that the child received affects a child’s mentality, brain size, and development due to the lack of a psychological therapist. The abuse that a child receives causes a child to malfunction, since they felt that they were not protected and were harmed. Although people state that one knows the meaning of abuse, yet they lack the extent and limitations of the term “abuse.” According to the article of “Definitions of Child Abuse and Neglect”, the definition is clearly stated by the government of what should be considered abuse and neglect which consists, “Any recent act or failure to act on
First, my topic is immigration and poverty because I have experience immigration and poverty myself. Another reason I choose the topic of immigration and poverty is the interesting and complexity that effects the most vulnerable. Also, because it is important to inform, communicate, educate other individuals of the needs, and everything immigrants have to do to provide for their families.
Sexual abuse as a child maltreatment became a social issue in the 1970 is through the efforts of the child protection movement and the feminist movement. Historical changes occurred, whereas the perceptions of children changed from property to individuals with rights. Sexual abuse is a traumatic event for the children and the impact felt throughout the life span. Because of the secrecy of this exploitation, the true number of victims is unknown.
Now we know or are aware of how bad domestic violence and how much of an affect it can have on the younger people who see it or are around it. John Gacy grew up seeing his mother and siblings being beaten by his father. A big reason to his father doing that was because his father was an alcoholic. Now majority alcoholics are abusers but some are abuse in others ways than physical. Anger is exhibited through children who see abuse or domestic violence. For an example, my whole life I’ve been around domestic violence with my father hitting my stepmother all the time. It affected me in a way because every time I get mad at a female I choose to walk away because I don’t want to be like my father, I don’t want to be a women abuser in any type of way. Being that way affects me in many ways because some
The study of the development of children is a fairly new study, and psychologist are still finding out a variety of new information every year. The propensity for violence is caused by many reasons. Including the violence caused by the psychologically health, the lack of morality and the violence state under unconscious. There is an old saying in China: Like father, like son. I believe that the family education and environment is very important to children, it will affect to them for whole life just like the old saying.
Domestic abuse is a big issue around the world. But sometimes females as well as males think that gender violence is a normal thing in a relationship. However, the UNFPA states that “worldwide, one in three women has been beaten, coerced into unwanted sexual relations, or abused-often by a family member or acquaintance.’(Domestic Violence). Nobody should be treated this way.
