1. Summary of Project:
American Greetings is the 3rd largest creative studio in the world. In terms of industry/marketplace, 90% of product is made in US and print 1.5 billion greeting cards each year. For the American Greeting Project, we need to provide a way that can more effectively generate prototypes to meet business needs compared to current process.
As we can see from the below chart collected from American Greetings, we find two key issues include long lead-team, lack of strong control and well coordinating among American Greetings, Vendors and Printers.
The Key points of this project are Respond-time, vendor-management and cost-control. Thus, the new prototyping process can assist American Greetings to improve the key activities

We identify eight steps for the American Greetings Prototyping process as below:
1. Identify customer need. In this step, we need to analyze past demand for future estimation and we need estimate rollout period based on focusing customer requirement.
2. Brainstorm, Brainstorm, Invent, Invent. In our opinion, we should compare past results with new concept and filter out past failed ideas. We incorporate past innovations and early hypothesis testing.
3. Select, refine, design. After the two steps before, we should have historic solutions for components, map product solutions with Vendors, using past customer feedback to improve design.
4. Create Prototypes. That is our focused problem how to improve the level of this process to meet the customers’ needs effectively. It is the key part in the whole American Greetings prototyping model. We will introduce the step in next chapter.
5. Ask people what they think. We need to forecast results for features, looking & feel, appeal, usability, emotional connect, preference.
6. Making refinements. We incorporate past refinements for similar components and allocate refinements to right vendors. We cut redesigning time & cost and look for more innovative

This vital information can be used in the later stages of prototyping as well as in prototyping processes of new products.
2. Prototype Development Stage:
The Prototype development is most focused on how well the communication and integration process is executed among the Asian Product Development team, Vendors and Vendors This directly affects the lead-time and cost parameters. So what we suggest is the adoption of RAD (Rapid Application Development) modeling to improve synergy among all the concerned teams.
So in this stage, instead of providing the whole prototype to work on to different vendors, and then waiting for them to respond to their individual process for the prototype, they can be provided with individual components of the prototype.
So why this difference?
Let’s say in the current method, we have to build a prototype for the product which has 5 components, named A, B, C, D & E.
So this product is supplied to 5 different vendors to work on named V1, V2, V3, V4 & V5.
So what will happen next?
All the 5 vendors will start working on the prototype, starting from their choice of component in the product. So may be V1, V2 & V3 start with component B, V4 starts with A and V5 starts with

First prototype, an Eye-opener: Santa Cruz Bicycles soon realized that, to capitalize on its patented VPP technology and ultimately grow the business, it had a find a way to get the designs off the drawing board into prototypes faster. Though the company was using AutoCAD software to render new designs, it was taking too long to have the working prototype machined from vendors. The delays meant that in the event of prototypes failing, designs had to be redeveloped which had a catastrophic effect on company’s finances. (Duvall, 2007)...
There are five categories of new products: new inventions, new category entries, additions to product lines, product improvements, and repositioning target products to new markets for new uses. The process is the same regardless of the category. It includes idea generation, idea screening, concept development and testing, analyzing the business, prototype development, test marketing, and commercialization.
Focus shall be on utilizing pre-production tools while developing the prototypes. Actual material, wherever possible, shall be used in the development of prototypes rather than having substituted parts. Make the prototypes as closer as possible to actual outputs.

...sed to think that designing phase of a product development is not important. But now it seems that it is the designing process only which makes the product original. The product innovation is reflected through the designing process.

In this stage of our development, we have come up with our final design through element D. We will use the design quite frequently in this element by reviewing the design and what obstacles we will face in the market. As a group we will have to review our design by a few things like price and distribution of our product. along with reviewing we have to see and talk about the obstacles that as a group we'll have to overcome. The merit of our design will be a big part of our project and this element. This is our business plan and attack plan for this important element.
== The purpose of this stage is to break the problem down into small parts and to plan each part in detail so you have all the information you need ready to move on to the design stage. What information do I need to gather and where will it come from? I will need to gather contact details, to design a logo and make an
After proving the feasibility of a concept with a POC and developing first MVPs, prototypes stands in focus. Prototypes are interactive models of the end product, visualizing how the product is working in a beta version. Moreover, prototypes aim to discover errors in the early development process and to adapt functionalities to customer’s requirements by testing and iterating (Gassmann, Frankenberger & Csik, 2017, p.73).
The eight stages of product development are designed to save time and resources. New product development ideas and prototypes are tested to ensure that the new product will meet customers’ needs and wants. The commercialisation stage is carefully planned to maximise product success, a poor start will affect product sales and could even affect the reputation and image of the new product. Finally in order to learn from any mistakes made, a review of the market performance is needed to access the success of the
During this stage, the project team develops detailed specifications of what the product is and how it performs, what it looks like, how it is manufactured, and how it is used.

We went through a lengthy process to come up with and execute our concept which gave us an idea of how it is like in the real world. For instance, starting up a restaurant, or pitching a product idea. We obtained crucial knowledge about the planning of expenses for a business. This gave us an idea of the various factors and details involved when selling a product such as aesthetics, quality, and preparation. Even though this gave us useful insight, it may undermine the true extent of business.
