This quote by Michael Bloomburg depicts how the American dream has continued to be a shining beacon for all people because it has persisted through the good and the bad of the history of the United States. The American dream is the promise to all Americans that they will be able to achieve success in whatever way they define it because of all the opportunities and freedoms that the United States offers. Even though the times may change, every citizen of the United States has the right and opportunity to bask in the warmth of the American dream and succeed through its elements. Equality One of the most significant promises of the American Dream is equality. Equality is the ability for any United States citizen to have the opportunity to do anything they wish without discrimination based on their identity. A famous example of when civil rights were achieved for equality in the United States was when the 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920, allowing women the right to vote (Claypool, 2010). This ratification specified that no citizen will be denied from voting based on their sex so that all people have the opportunity to equally contribute to the democratic process of the United States. Even if a citizen decides not to vote, that is their right because all are promised the choice to vote in the American dream. The American dream is achievable because of this equality.
