The message of this song is that America is still divided. There are still issues having to do with race, terrorism, and other forms of discrimination. The American Dream is hard to find when parts of the country still are divided. It is hard to find hope for the country when there is so much hate occurring today. The song questions why today we choose to stay quiet when these types of horrible events occur. The song points out how even today it is hard to find love and happiness when there are still so many bad events happening. Another message is that we have to set aside our differences and work together. The discrimination and hate need to stop in order to fill the world with peace and unity. The song explains how today’s media mainly shows negative news, which is affecting the children of today’s society. The tone is frantic because the author believes we need to find love now. The country has dealt with hatred and discrimination for too long, so there needs to be a change. The author goes to the extent of putting himself in a child’s shoes and asking his mother what is wrong with the world. Throughout the song, the tone is hopeful because the author asks for guidance from God by stating, “Father, Father, Father, help us, Send some guidance from above”. The author hopes people will start to act kindly and follow through with the positive morals they preach. I chose this particular piece because I agree with some parts of how the author views today’s world. I agree that America still experiences acts of discrimination. I feel that people today are still not given equal opportunities based off of traits like ethnicity, skin color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc. In my opinion, this discrimination makes it harder to believe that anyone can make it in America as stated in the typical American
