Whether it is a happy memory or a sad memory Green Day has covered it. In the song “Time of Your Life” the memories are happier and the song is much more detailed. In the song “Wake Me up When September Ends” the memories are much sadder. The modes and moods are the two biggest differences in the two songs. While the biggest similarities are they are both about memories. Both of these songs reflect on memories in a person’s life. Happy memories can come from all types of things. In the song “Time of Your Life” the lead vocalist Billie Joel Armstrong is singing about a break up that led to good memories. He talks about how time got away from them. “Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.” The song is about the good memories they had created together. He says to take the photographs and still frames and hang them up. He’s telling her to take those memories and hang them up and not to forget about them. He tells the person he was with to hang up the memories, he tells them that because he doesn’t want that person to forget about the good memories they had together. He doesn’t want people to forget about the food memories, because those good memories will …show more content…
You can interpret this song in more than one way. The song was mainly written about Billie Joel Armstrong’s father who passed away in September. He left his father’s funeral early and his mother tried talking to him about his father. But he kept responding with “Wake Me up When September Ends.” The song is also a military tribute to those who were serving in Iraq, and about those who lost their lives in 9/11. The music video for the song is about a couple. The girl finds out her boyfriend got drafted to serve in Iraq, and it shows the man fighting in Iraq, that is where the military and 9/11 tribute come into play. Even though these songs are completely opposite they have a few similarities and
Sometimes people need to hang on to difficult memories because without them they would feel lost. In short, it is better to feel pain than nothing at all. Memories are made up of the highest and lowest points in your life and all the little ones in between. The poet, Li Young Lee writes, “even when it’s painful, memory is sweet.” Even with the good and bad memories, the feeling of belonging overcomes the sense of being lost.
The lead singer of the band Train, Pat Monahan revealed in an interview that this song is about the death of his mother. In the interview Monahan stated, “ Loss of the most important person in my life was heavy on my mind, and
The relevance of the song was portraying that using drugs and alcohol will help you escape life situations. Regardless of how hard or tough it is. All you need to do is to get drunk or get high, than your problems will flush away. But the video don’t explain the reality of the outcome of how drugs and alcohol will or could affect your lifestyle and how it could lead you to lose your job, family and life. All it shows is the fun side of being intoxicated. Which, it raises a big flag on kids or teens that do have access to the media like the
Through this short story we are taken through one of Vic Lang’s memories narrated by his wife struggling to figure out why a memory of Strawberry Alison is effecting their marriage and why she won’t give up on their relationship. Winton’s perspective of the theme memory is that even as you get older your past will follow you good, bad or ugly, you can’t always forget. E.g. “He didn’t just rattle these memories off.” (page 55) and ( I always assumed Vic’s infatuation with Strawberry Alison was all in the past, a mortifying memory.” (page 57). Memories are relevant to today’s society because it is our past, things or previous events that have happened to you in which we remembered them as good, bad, sad, angry etc. memories that you can’t forget. Winton has communicated this to his audience by sharing with us how a memory from your past if it is good or bad can still have an effect on you even as you get older. From the description of Vic’s memory being the major theme is that it just goes to show that that your past can haunt or follow you but it’s spur choice whether you chose to let it affect you in the
Song lyrics have set off a great generation of our leisure time than reading poetic devices, therefore song lyrics are better than poetic devices. Song lyrics have dropped numerous lines that attach to us now a days and make us listen to the line over and over unlike poetic devices. Song Lyrics have so much meaning by word choice and by relations.”Mr. Rager” by Kid Cudi, is about people fed up with society and plan on taking a journey. “Dreams” by Edgar Allen Poe, is about a man who dreams of a greater life. Mr. Rager, the song by Scott Cudi, has a better meaning than Dreaming, the poem by Edgar Allen Poe, by personification, allusion, and symbolism.
The whole music video is in remembrance of the little girl Aiyana Jones and to show its audience the injustice it served in America (Alexis 5). The music video does not focus on the lyrics, but focuses on a whole different story. Although the music video is about the war between the government and drugs, the lyrics and the music video share a mutual message and that is to seek peace not only in the community, but also in our minds. Today, there have been issues on police brutality and unlawful arrests. This music video really illustrated different point of views of different people such as the victim and the policemen. Although the music video displayed a different message, the lyrics also provided a great message to people especially young women. Both music video and lyrics
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, drummer Tré Cool and guitarist and backing vocalist Jason White. Green Day is one of the worlds best-selling groups of all time, selling over 75 million albums worldwide. They are best knowen for their realease of the song "American Idiot" on September 20th 2004 which can be found on their "American Idiot" Album. American Idiot quickly became popular worldwide and created a lot of contrivercy because people believe that it is anti-American due to its title and harsh sarcastic comments throughout the song. However, if you pay attention to the lyrics you may see that in many ways the song is highly patriotic.
During the whole story the main Character Janie, has been Investigating love her whole life and she had dreams that she’s always wanted to chase but her grandmother’s teachings set her back. When she finally finds love with a man named tea-cake it changes her life and makes her see life in a new way. That’s why I chose these songs. Because They connect, to love and dream chasing. In my first song, “Dreams” by J.cole, we see the theme of love and finding that perfect girl in the lyrics of the song. In the song
The music addresses and brings attention to our culture and society’s current issues with the purpose of advocating for change. The music intendeds to drive home some type of message as a voice of the times that we are living in. Green Day’s song “Holiday” is a song of the modern protest music. The chorus of the song, “This is the dawning of the rest of our lives / On holiday” embodies the purpose of modern protest music (Green Day). Today, protesters are using music to advocate for change, but the government and society are sitting back and not doing anything as if there are no problems. This is just like what the chorus to “Holiday” means. People should be out protesting and making a difference instead of sitting back as if they are on vacation. If we don’t hold anyone accountable and no one takes responsibility nothing will change. In modern America, protest music is a way to advocate against and for today’s current issues by driving home some type of
... been related to months and seasons maybe because the hidden message of the song is that love is a never-ending cycle (like the seasons). This would indicate that love will inevitably die, but be reborn again, perhaps in the form of someone else or with the same person. This then could lead to the theory that this song was written to be compatible with everything that is loved i.e. a new job, new friend etc and that it often deteriorates through familiarity. Such depth in a song compares to the depth of a poem in terms of the hidden meanings and imagery.
Memory is defined as “the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information” (“Tmesis”, n.d.); and it is a purely mental process that always access to stored information. Memories can either be pleasant or unpleasant, but the fact is, they still exist either way. They are an essential part of who we are and without them, we would struggle to establish our identity. Besides being images of the past, memory is equally emotions too. Emotions are the main reason a memory is either stored or forgotten. They are a key factor in memory.
I think the song lyrics try to say that murdered and the wounded were not the only victims that day. Society as a whole suffered; some tried to understand why it happened and others were so angry they decided to join the revolution.
This song is an excellent example of the empowerment women and men may need occasionally. When someone is faced with a painful situation, people basically show two kinds of reaction: giving up or struggling. Those who decide to give up will usually keep complaining and blaming others for the situation they face. In contrast, those who decide to struggle, even though initially show almost the same reactions as the first group of people, they will finally choose to look at the good side of the situation they face. The process of being down, looking for the positives, and avoiding negative thoughts or feelings may be difficult but could ultimately result in the greatest gift of all, happiness.
Yes, it is a very negative part but it might be the best part. You never know what life is going to bring you. This breakup song could change your whole life around, help you move on. The negative view is that you just got dumped and you are left alone. That feeling is awful, there is a pit in your stomach that you don 't know how to fill. No one can help but yourself. I think this song is for you to realize that everyone is lonely at some point, that you can move on and get over whatever it is. The line “Never thought the day would come where you would get up and run and I would be out chasing you.” That was my favorite because it shows that he messed up and now he’s realizing what he had now that its
