Make sure to have markers at each flip chart and the Post-it notes ready to go. 20 minutes III. Finding What Is Most Important Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such thoughtful ideas. Now, we’re going to drill down a bit further and provide opinions on those ideas we find most important or relevant. You’ve been working with a partner for brainstorming. Now, we’d like you to join up with another pair to form small groups of four. As a group, we’d like you to visit each flip chart and read the answers you see there. As a group, discuss what you see and choose what you feel to be the five most important ideas/concepts/responses. Place a star sticker on the ones you deem the most important. The purpose of this letter is to inform you about my interest in becoming a member of The Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I sought out membership because the members exemplify the epitome of class, grace, and standards. My desire is to inspire young girls and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. I believe in being of service, giving back to the community, and I want to continue on for years to come. Going into the transition into my college career from my freshman year until now, I have encountered many women in the organization that are very active on campus as well as in the community. My past experiences with my past and previous organizations have proved that once my feet are planted my roots will grow and I will stand firm in an organization or committee that I am apart of exemplifying my leadership skills. I am a dedicated member of the National Council of Negro Women. I am on the Bethune Committee, we focus on creating Health programs for the organization and the community. I am a Mentor with the Valdosta community organization G.O.L.F.E.R. (Generating Opportunities in Life for Each

To Lead or Not to Lead, Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Studies. Jackson, MS: Phi Theta Kappa, Inc., 2001.
When first being introduced to a group, it can be quite stressful trying to figure out how you and your team members are going to function together. As with any group, there are a few milestones that need to be reached in order to ensure a functional and successful relationship. Specifically, groups need to go through Tuckman’s Group Development Stages. These stages consist of forming, storming, norming, performing, and in some scenarios, a final stage of adjourning may be reached. After participating in this assignment, we as a group were easily able to identify, and analyze, each stage of our development.
When forming a group it is important to include everyone right off the bat. Receiving good input from everyone is key to group development. Everyone in the group must respect and get along with the other members in order to provide substantial progress.
As a senior in high school I was an officer of National Honor Society along with three other people. I remember engaging in a variety of activities such as decorating the school, logging volunteer hours that members would submit, and brainstorming fundraising ideas in committees with my classmates. With our more than two hundred members we were able to accomplish quite a lot, but often my fellow officers and I would be scrambling around trying to run the large organization. We would often butt heads and sometimes operations would get overlooked. What I have come to realize is that we each did not have a clear leadership purpose. I now know that in order to effectively lead an organization one must have a central set of values through which they lead the group. This makes an organization more efficient, timely, and effective. Through my experience at the United States Naval Academy I have have shaped my leadership purpose to be: to facilitate an environment of respect, trust, and grit. I came to the Naval Academy because I wanted to be
Class of 2012, as we sit here this evening, I would like you to take a look at the classmates sitting around you. Many students have given countless hours of time, energy, and passion to worthy cuases that they have been a part of throughout high school. However, those aren't the only students deserving of recognition this evening. We have students here tonight, who have taken a stand for what they believe in, not even hesitating to compromise their reputations.
Today, as we graduate, with degree nearly in hand, I challenge each of you to make a difference in whatever you do. Remember that life didn't end when we re-entered school. Life continued throughout our program. Even when stretched to the limit, life only got more challenging. And now, graduating, life only changes pace. Our degree completion is not really an ending as much as a new beginning as we re-enter our lives of work and home. We thank all of our family, friends, instructors and co-workers who helped see us through this process. Thank you for this opportunity and good luck to you all.
Preview of main points: Today, I will discuss the pros and cons and the history
