The history of Webberville began with a handful of settlements in the 1820s. In 1839, the community was formally established as Webber's Prairie, becoming Webberville in 1853. It would be 150 years before Webberville was officially incorporated as a village. When the village needed to have work performed on its asphalt pavement, Alpha Paving was invited to bid on the job. As a small community, the mayor and commissioners needed to ensure that their residents would receive quality work at the lowest cost possible. Bobby Edwards, one of Alpha's sales representatives, worked tirelessly with the village's commissioners for over 18 months, educating the principals on the paving process, presenting various solutions and helping define a detailed bid package so that all bids received were truly "apples to apples." Alpha Paving was awarded the contract, so the next step was to hold a preconstruction meeting on the Friday before work was to begin. During the meeting, the scope of the job was reviewed, the details were clarified and the entire process was explained. Work was scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on the following Monday. …show more content…
Traffic control was provided to ensure that inconvenience to the citizens was minimized. By 7 a.m., the crews were off and running. Chuy took the first crew to saw cut, mill and perform other prep work before handling the patching and bridging. In addition to the patching and bridging already discussed, Chuy also handled work on roads that his extensive experience told him were in need of attention. Blondie and Kathy took the second crew and began paving in areas that did not require preliminary prep work. By dark, the first road — which had been allotted up to two days for completion — was
Harvey Parnell once said that “[at] one time public roads in Arkansas were so bad that the wild geese, honking southward, would go around them.” In 1927, Parnell, as Lieutenant Governor, helped get the legislation for the Martineau Road Plan passed in the State Legislature. This legislation dealt with the improvement of the state highway system. Parnell also proposed the building of roads in the rural areas connecting outlying communities with the main state highway. Parnell, and Martineau before him, worked to make sure that the new highway system would not be paid for by personal property taxes but by the taxes on gasoline and vehicle licenses. This way the people paying for the new highway would be the people who actually use it. As ...
Despite being built during the Civil War, funding was not a problem and every single one of the 2,000 miles of track was hand laid; going through mountains as well as terrain. Both companies finally met up at their midpoint completing the construction on May 10th, 1869; about four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after construction
This essay focuses upon evidence gathered from people who provide good examples of ‘making and remaking’ on City Road in relation to connections and disconnections. Evaluations are drawn from the relevant Open University reading and visual resources and the essay is revised following ‘TMA 01 feedback’ (TMA FORM PT3e: TMA No 01, 2016).
English colonists began arriving in the area as early as the 1640s, but most of their names have been lost to history. The earliest known resident of Osterville was a man named John Cammett. Although he first appears in the records around 1808, the house bearing his name was actually built in 1720. The Cammett House, complete with a 1700s herb garden, is one of several historical properties in
We cleared the roadways and addressed safety concerns expeditiously and without injury or loss of life
The Highway Administration Program was concerned with the repair of the worn out roads in the country during the winter period. This owed to the falling of snow on the roads that made activities such as driving and transportation very difficult to the citizens of the country.
The SPHE meeting had a guest speaker Jacob Elias, a structures field engineer who works for Balfour Beatty Construction. He’s working on the Dallas Horse Shoe Project and graduated from UTA with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2013. He talked about his line of work, his duties, responsibilities, and the main steps in constructing the Downtown Dallas remake of IH-35E and IH-30. He also discussed what he learned from his experience as a student as well as a professional in the field. He ended with some major advice for students and future engineers.
The paving contractor uses heavy equipment to spread a new layer of asphalt over your lot. This fills in cracks and holes as it goes on. It's like adding a new lot over the old one. The new layer adds thickness to the surface so it is more stable and durable. The new layer of asphalt bonds with the old layer as it dries and cures. It is an effective way of repairing damage and improving the appearance of the lot since it looks like new when the job is done.
In the past few years, Colorado Springs has seen a substantial population increase (St. Louis-Sanchez 2014). This has led to an increase of a variety of issues. Due to the increase, one of the biggest issues is that the roads cannot handle the new volume of traffic, and the drivers that are new to the region cannot always handle the roads, particularly in the winter. While the city continues to attempt to widen the roads, this only causes more congestion and stress no matter how temporary. On top of the added hassle of construction, roads can only be expanded so much before there is not any more room. Larger roads also means a larger winter maintenance operation, more money spent filling potholes, and repaving more roads. There are three different solutions to this problem, and they all can work together and build on one another.
At the atomic level, explain why a small gap is left between slabs of concrete on a footpath.
The condition of the roads has gradually worsen throughout the state of Rhodes Island. “A new report released from the white house ranks RI as one of the worst states in the country when it comes to road conditions.”(Smart Growth America, 2011) This evidence, displays to the political leaders in Rhode Island that not only is fixing the roads a main concern but also making sure that the repairs last several years.

If you are new to Bend, then you should've already noticed how many potholes there are. When you have any place where there is a hot summer with a very cold and snowy winter they're going to be potholes. The repeated thawing then freezing is why many places have potholes. This can frustrate many people around Bend. Either about how they aren't fixing them much or about how it can mess up the schedule by trying to avoid these construction crews.
Inside the village the roads are mainly made in cement with street lights. However the road connecting the village to the state highway 18 is not yet cemented and most of the roads on the edge of the village are still unpaved.
Does telling someone about your problems make you feel better? It is hard to talk about your problems with others, as it shows your vulnerable side towards them. When you tell them about your problems, you are sharing your life, and doing so will create a connection between you and them. This is evident in the novel, Six Metres of Pavement, where the main character, Ismail Boxwala, is closed off from other people, as well as other characters, such as Fatima GURAB and Celia Sousa facing a similar feat of being closed off. With Ismail, he had a dreadful past, as his little daughter, Zubi died, due to Ismail, leaving her in the car on a hot day at work. From this it triggered a series of unfortunate events
