2. At the atomic level, explain why a small gap is left between slabs of concrete on a footpath. At the atomic level, a small gap is left between slabs of concrete because on a hot day, the atoms that make up the concrete slab will get more energized due to the heat. When an atom gets energized, it starts moving faster and taking up more space. This causes the concrete slab to expand, until it closes gap. When the concrete slab starts cooling down, it will contract, leaving the gap opened once agian. If a gap was not created, during a hot day, the concrete slab will have no space for the exapnsion to happen without damage caused, and so, it will get damged and it can damage its surroundings. This process of the expanding and contracting concrete
Woop woop! Is the common sound heard in Beecher Terrace (housing apartments). There are 2.3 million people locked up in the United States. Kentucky spends about fifteen billion dollars per year incarcerating individuals from Beecher Terrace. Since the 1970’s the number of people locked up in the United States has grown from 300,000 to 2.3 million. Kentucky has been the center of this prison expansion. Charles McDuffie, Christel, Demetria, and Keith Huff all have something in common. Each of these individuals are repeat offenders, grew up or lived in Beech Terrace, and have some type of mental issue.
The emerald jewel of Brooklyn, Prospect Park is often called the borough’s backyard and has been a serene and idyllic retreat for Brooklynites for well over a century now. In fact, the park recently celebrated its 150th anniversary with great fanfare, attesting its historic importance and role it’s played in city life for generations. Few people, however, know the true history of the park, such as its connection to Central Park and the role it played in the development of Brooklyn real estate in the late 19th century. To that end, here’s a quick look at the hidden history of Prospect Park and the key role it’s played in the city’s history over the years.
The participants of “Sidewalk” are Howard, Conrad, Jerome, Shorty, Joe Garbage, Butterroll, Alice, Ron, Jamaane, Marvin, Keith, Grady, Ishmael, and Mudrick and other vendors on Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village who struggle to with their economic status, on how they struggled in the wake of new economic era and political realities.
Many people go through tough struggles in their lives, but no one really sees it, and most of the time no one really cares. The Rose That Grew From Concrete was written by Tupac Shakur. In this poem the author uses conflict, the characters, and mood to illustrate that just because something shouldn’t happen doesn’t mean that it won’t happen.
The school, Ps. 282, is located in Park Slope Brooklyn. The Park Slope district centers about the Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Eastern Parkway. Park slope is best known for its Victorian-era mansion and brownstones. It is one of the most romantic neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Railroad owner and land speculator, Edwin C. Litchfield, built the present neighborhood of Park Slope. Five hundred and twenty-six acres of land was bought by the city to design Prospect Park, resulting in giving the neighborhood its name. Park Slope experienced a horrible tragedy in 1960. December 16, 1960, United Airlines DC-8 and TWA Super Constellation collided in the air, killing all 128 passengers on two planes
Natural stone arches are geological formations that occur when rock is exposed to substantial amounts of erosion , which over time forces the rock into the shape of an arch. Stone arches are among the most diverse of rock formations, not only because of the large area where they are known to be found, but also their complex ways of forming. Although many factors contribute to making natural stone arches so enthralling, one key role keeps and hones our constant attention: each and every stone arch every formed will fall. Despite the things we do know about stone arches, they are continuously changing and teaching us new things about them as well as the world around us.
In Lake Braddock, every gold day we have Bruin Block, which is a “mandatory” class that is used as study hall. It is a fundamental class in most high schools today and there is a good reason for a class similar to Bruin Block or study hall. But as soon as their is a two hour delay or a early release the school is quick to cancel it. Lake Braddock says it is a very important class and it is because it can help a lot of students. Bruin Block shouldn’t be canceled when there is a delay or early release.
Concrete poetry presents its readers with a unique and often confounding situation. In addition to using language or parts of language in non-traditional ways, concrete poetry also uses elements that are more commonly associated with visual art. However, concrete poetry is not visual art. It is still concerned, primarily, with the use of language, generally to communicate some meaning to the reader in a way that is undeniably linguistic in nature. Concrete poetry is therefore an especially unique genre that draws upon and incorporates many different concepts from a variety of disciplines in order to fill in the gaps left when traditional grammar and syntax are eschewed.
I would like to bring to your attention some concerns I have with the cleaning being performed in the 3200 building. Is she assigned to do anything other than mop the tiles? The chemical that she is using to mop the floor is so overpowering that my family and I have to hold our breaths from the time we leave our apartment, to the time we get out to the parking lot. Is this necessary?
The Surveyor 3 television camera landed on the Moon as part of the Surveyor 3 mission on April 20, 1967 November 24, 1969, the crew of Apollo 12 carried the camera back to Earth. Launch Date: 1967-04-1, Launch, Vehicle: Atlas-Centaur,Launch Site: Cape Canaveral, United States,Mass: 296.0 kg. There were some alternate names for Surveyor 3 Television which were Surveyor-C and 02756. The Funding Agency was the NASA-Office of Space Science Applications (United States). Surveyor 3 was the second spacecraft of the Surveyor series to achieve a lunar soft landing. The primary objectives of the Surveyor program, a series of seven robotic lunar soft landing flights, were to support the coming crewed Apollo landings by: (1) developing and validating the
Bricks, you always thought, were for the exteriors. You never really imagined a brick wall inside the house, leave alone in your living room. When I say a brick wall, I mean an exposed brick wall and not bricks cemented and painted over, which is, of course, pretty normal. The new age interiors have, however, changed all that. Today, proper brick walls inside the house are ending up grabbing the attention of house owners around the world.
In figure (2.26), eight equations proposed by different researchers have been plotted for lightweight concrete, as shown in table (2.12). The experimental splitting tensile strength values are calculated as follows: Eq. (2.23), (2.24), (2.25) (2.26) for cube specimens and (2.27), (2.28), (2.29), (2.30) for cylinder specimens. The splitting tensile strength of lightweight concrete for Eq. (2.23) ranged from 2.8 – 3.5 MPa, as shown in figure (2.23).
Concrete is a composite material used widely in the construction industry. Concrete is basically a mixture of cement, water, aggregates and admixture (sometimes). Cement is a fine gray powder that consists of oxidizes calcium, silicon and aluminum. The aggregate used is normally gravel, crushed stone or sand. Admixture is a solid or liquid substance that gives a certain characteristics of the concrete. The cement reacts with water chemically and binds the aggregates together through a process called hydration during hardening or curing of concrete. It means that water helps in the hardening of the concrete while the cement bind the aggregate and also react with water to form a solid mass.
Roof tiles are designed to block out rain, this is because the tiles will have a ‘waterproof glaze’ ensuring that rain will not enter the home and that inside will stay dry.
As concrete is plastic material in Green State it has to kept in enclosure till its harden. This enclosure is known as ‘ Formwork or Shuttering’.
