A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. One does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. First of all, leadership is something that is managed and not given. It is true that most leaders will focus solely on the negative aspects and often refer to negative bias. This is because our brains are hardwired to solely focus on the negative part of incident. Affirmative bias or confirmation bias, is the tendency to search for, interpret, and recall information in a way that confirms one's preexisting beliefs or hypotheses. It is a type of cognitive bias and a systematic error of …show more content…

Everyone has their own ideas of what a leader is, what they might look like, act like or maybe what their accomplishments were. They, who are the leaders are the ones who have made a changed in the world and have shown people how true leaders are recognized as. Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
Management is the ability to get a job done using appropriate processes, models and systems to achieve an objective. Managers think radically, abide by principles, rules and use experience in their respective fields to make things work. A good manager goes about the ordinary activities such a staffing, organizing, planning (Robert, 2007). The very ability of his/her colleague to discover the uniqueness in each of the subordinates, capitalize on it, harnessing the best out of them to accomplish goals clearly distinguishes such a person as great when compared to others. Great managers develop people and enthusiastically transfer acquired skills to others, work progress is constant and usually by leaps and bounds. In addition, a great manager outlines and strategizes his/her team for project plans such that there is a “buy in” on delivered commitments. In contrast, the former just transfers the required skills to subordinates; work progress is notable, vice versa of the latter. Rupert Murdoch of the News Corporation is ...
What is a leader? Who are chosen to be leader, and why are they chosen? What set these certain individuals aside from everyone else? A leader is someone who can encourage even those with feeble hearts, insecure souls and self-doubting minds. A leader takes not only their vision but everyone’s vision and create one beautiful creation that is seen throughout the world. My experiences with leadership range from the worst to the best. Once holding a great leadership position myself, I can testify the benefits of great leadership and the disadvantages of horrible leadership. Through my experience with great leadership and the effects on the people, it seemed to the naked eye that everyone was thinking the same thing at the same time. In actually it was the leader uniting the members together on one common chord to produce a sound that would remain in the souls. A leader is someone who not only leads, but also encourages people to do their best, share a collectively common idea or passion with a group, and challenge the process of a traditional style.
Everyone has a different definition of what makes someone a leader. My definition is not a statement of requirements, but more so a list of characteristics. I believe it takes a strong, independent, dependable, open-minded, thoughtful, selfless, smart and creative, someone who can work well with others, able to work under pressure, respectful, and experienced individual to be a leader. I believe it is someone who knows who they are and know their morals, someone who has already found who they are in life and accepts who they are, making what I believe the most important characteristic is, is someone who knows and sticks with their personal values. If someone cannot respect values and stick to their word, then how can they be a leader of others? A leader takes a lot of work, but if you are good at it, it may seem like nothing. Some people are leaders and do not even know it, like role models. When little kids look up to certain people that have impacted their lives in a way, they will see those people as role models. Truth is, leaders are everywhere and not everyone knows or can see that. It's not always the person who stands out for taking control or being bossy, but the one with the characteristics and high values that do the right things, even when no one is watching.
Leadership is when strong leaders show a group of people a clear vision of the right path to go. A leader has important qualities that make them a strong independent person. A leader tends to be open minded when it comes to listening to others ideas to help solve hard times. Being a leader does not mean someone is bossing others around and controlling everything they do. It means they offer help to others and know how to to take charge when the time is needed. In Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus is an effective leader because he knows how to be adaptive to challenges he faces in life and also caring for other in his crew.
...r whole effort into it and they give above and beyond because they want the result to be good for results matter. The leader generates work that meet commitment and generate results that surpass and go above and beyond the normal requirement (Lord & Maher, 1991).
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Being a leader means being a person who can inspire others and a role model that people can look up to. I am a good role model because I am responsible, and I am someone who gives it their all 100 percent of the
To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
There are many different things I think of when I think of what leadership means to me. My idea of leadership is to be able to inspire others, get them excited to do something, motivate them and set an example to others. I also think that showing respect to others is a key part of leadership. You don’t just need leadership qualities, but you need to be a successful leader. To me being a successful leader is being able to have people follow you and not disrespect you. If you are a great leader your followers start to respect you more. To be a leader you also need to have certain qualities like being sociable, intelligent, have patience to deal with situations. A leader needs to be motivated or they will be a failure. I think I show leader ship all the time inside and outside of school. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way (John C. Maxwell).
It is important for managers to set proper boundaries with those that they lead. If not, then the question will be “Who is really in charge?” The result will almost always leave the leader feeling absent in their department. Blanchard categorized this mistake into a few types of managers: Some leaders tend to be bossy, but never stating what he/she expects from their employees. Also, some managers are worried about straining the relationship with the employee by giving negative feedback, so they decide not give any feedback and the as a result, the employee is never held accountable for their mistakes. Third, is the manager is one who is very easy going, putting the employees’ needs, but forgetting about the team and overall organizational needs. Fourth, a certain manager has a deep desire to be fair with everyone, managing everyone the same way, without seeing that everyone needs a certain amount of independence while some need more dependence. Lastly, there are managers who are...
Effective leaders take calculated risks when necessary to achieve their objectives. If a mistake is made, the effective leader will learn from the mistake and use it as an opportunity to explore other avenues. : Effective leaders earn the trust of their followers and act on behalf of their followers. They wonder about every aspect of their charge. They find out what they need to know in order to pursue their goals.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
According to Shockley and Zalabak (2009) "Leadership is a process of guiding individuals, groups, and entire organization in establishing goals and sustaining action to support goals.Leadership is like mapping out where you need to go to win". A Leader is a person who has a strong personality and who has an ability to manage people and work. He is also the person who is able to direct people .Usually a leaders has a lot of attributes that
