The area of health science I would like to pursue as a career is health systems management: the position is also referred to as a healthcare executive or a healthcare administrator. This type of job encompasses planning for the future direction of a department, managing and directing the daily operations of a particular health service, monitoring assets, making proper investments, balancing budgets, addressing and working with the public, and making decisions about marketing. A healthcare administrator also implements changes that adapt to advancements in healthcare laws, regulations, and technology. The responsibilities of this position will vary depending on each specific organization. I became interested in healthcare administration from a combination of being in charge of a business for five years and currently working in a research laboratory. I like the aspects of both management and healthcare so this career choice would allow me to use both skill sets all in one job. Also, working in the field of research limits the amount of time I actually interact with people and that is something I miss and am striving to get back into. A Master degree is essential and it could be in a variety of areas including business administration, health administration, health services administration, or public health. Prior healthcare work experience is always an advantage since it provides an existing base of knowledge, which is not something that is easily picked up on coming from another industry. After being lost, puzzled, and indecisive for a while now about which health-related career I desire the most, I finally made up my mind and selected a major. I decided to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science after accomplishing an Associate’s Degree in Science, which is an open field filled with opportunities for several health professions. I realized that a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science is the way to go as it enables me to switch back and forth between all of the health occupations that I worship. Down the road, I can even further my education and specialize in a specific domain that I am willing to commit to. In general, Health Science is a major where professionals undergo several tasks such as improving their community’s health and overall wellbeing, get involved in nutrition related conditions, use epidemiological techniques, counteract various infections, and enrich physical and daily health routines.
According to the American Health Information Management Association, Health information is the data related to a person’s medical history, including symptoms, diagnoses, procedures, and outcomes. Health information records include patient histories, lab results, x-rays, clinical information, and notes. The data can be analyzed to see how a patient’s health might have changed. I took interest in Health Information Management when it was brought to my attention by a doctor. He told me that is a very interesting field and it is in high demand as they have more jobs than people to fill them. I went home, researched it and now here I am making my entry into the field.

Any job in the medical field is great, because it will always be needed no matter what. Doctors, nurses, techs, etc. are all very important and necessary people, but the people behind the scenes are just as important, medical administrative assistants. The real problem with the health care system in this country is not just the people running it but mainly the massive pit of debt it is continually digging. America spends around 17%, which is about $2.5 trillion of our GDP on health care alone! It is safe to say we spend nearly more than any other country out there.
