Authority by definition is, rights inherent in a supervisory position to give orders and expect those orders to be obeyed.* In other words a person who holds a position of authority expects the employees that they are supervising to obey their orders not because of liking or respecting them but because of the of authority the individual possesses. Authority has three forms line, staff and functional. For the purpose of this essay we will discuss staff and functional authority. Staff authority is defined as, a limited authority that supports line authority by advising, servicing, and assisting. This authority normally is limited. An example of this would be the administrative assistant to the operations coordinator of an ambulance service

During that time an official report said, “Tribute should be paid to chaplain assistants without whose energy the Chaplains could not have carried on. In addition to their regular duties they were carpenters, common stone masons, landscape engineers, etc. The good humor and patience of a Chaplain's Assistant were often a boon to the Chaplain's morale” ("World War II and its Aftermath", 2016). As a result, Chaplain Assistants play a vital role in completing the mission of the Unit Missionary Team (UMT) in the Army. The Army accomplishes this by utilizing them in the following ways: to support the religious mission of the Commander, to assist and protect the Chaplain

The changes in the authority was altered in some characters, for example, Lorraine has command over Jamie, but not over Sgt. Butcher. Butcher is no-longer going to have control over the town, and Mike McPherson no longer has any power, whatsoever. The characters awareness of each other’s strengths and weaknesses take them on a journey throughout the novel to discover more about each other. Eventually the reader starts to see the changes in the characters motivation and the authority is proven to be right or wrong.

With many medical careers students often get confused on what they really want to study, I have faced this problem myself and I know is not that easy due too many choices. There are many options ranging from healthcare to medical jobs. I have thoughtfully chosen to enter the program for Medical Assistant (MA). Ever since I was a child, I’ve spent most of childhood years at the Hospital, I was diagnosed with a rare condition that had to be treated continuously, this meant that I had to be going to checkups every three months so I was close to doctors, surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologist, medical assistants, etc. I remember at first I was frightened just of the thought of going to the doctor but after a few visits I got used to. The doctors and nurses were nice and caring and made me feel comfortable that I end up enjoying my doctor’s visits every time. Since then I decided I wanted to work in the medical field, this is my goal since I can remember. I have always enjoyed helping people in any way I possibly can. I chose to be a Medical Assistant because I think is great way to start my medical career going and programs are practical and not long.
I chose a career as a medical assistant because of the rewards I knew I would experience on a daily basis. Seeing a patient smile because I have helped them understand, or just making them feel comfortable with their visit, is just one of the many perks of my job. Upon graduating from an accredited college such as The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP), I now work for one of the most reputable hospitals in my area. Within two short years of committed studies, I obtained my associate of applied science degree, and then went on to obtain my certification as a medical assistant. There is nothing I have found more fulfilling, strong, secure, or rewarding then choosing to become a medical assistant,
Practicing in the medical field is a respectable profession, since its main goal is to help others when they are in need. Although, I’m not sure of what job I will have, I do know that it will be in the field of medicine. I hope through the mentoring program I will be able to decide if a Certified Medical Assistant is the job for me.
“Positional authority is critical to making the right decisions for the company, but it shouldn’t be used when managing and leading people” ("positional authority," 2014, p. 1).
That I would choose a career in the medical field has never been a question; I am innately nurturing and compassionate. Finding myself drawn specifically toward a career as a physician assistant is something that has occurred over my lifetime and as a result of many experiences. These experiences have developed a skill set in me that I believe uniquely qualifies me for this particular area of health care. As I considered the caregiving skills and attention to detail required of a nurse, and the problem solving and responsibility required of a physician, I realized that I share qualities with individuals in both professions. I believe that this combination of qualities defines the role of a physician assistant and it is these qualities that make me uniquely suitable for this career path.
Most of today’s businesses requires post high school education in order to obtain more than an entry level administrative assistant position. From my research on schools that offer a degree, diploma or certificate for administrative assistants, I chose to provide information on Bradford School, Kaplan University, and Penn Foster School.
When power becomes legitimate, it is then recognized as authority (Denhardt et al, 2001). Power becomes authority when it is accepted and even desired by society. As stated by the course study notes, “authority refers to a situation where a person (or group) has been formally granted a leadership position”. An individual has authority when everyday norms and regulations support the exercising of power by that individual. In an organizational setting, “authority is hierarchal and vested in positions” (Week 9 Study Notes), which are defined by “organizational charts, positions and rules” (Week 9 Study Notes). Generally, power in authority also involves the possibility of rewards such as promotions and good performance reviews.
