I believe the most important concept in The Adaptable Leader module is the three elements of adaptability. This is the most important concept to me because being able to adapt to change in the military is the key to success, especially in the maintenance career field. Outside of scheduled maintenance, it is impossible to consistently predict when an aircraft will require Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) support. Aircraft can break at any given time during flight which may result in technicians having to inspect something they have never seen before or get called in on their weekend to support the aircraft. I will apply cognitive flexibility the most when I am verifying that the procedure is valid. This will require me to check in on my subordinate while he or she is in the process of creating it. When the procedure is invalid, I will need to first see why it isn’t working and then come up with multiple plans on how to make the procedure work. By creating different plans, the technician will be able to correctly inspect the part and learn more about NDI theory. Since all procedures get documented and saved, my application of cognitive flexibility will have a positive impact on my peers because they will not have to repeat the procedure when the part returns to the section at a later date. Ultimately, this will have a positive impact on my supervisors because I will ensure the NDI section is able to test the integrity of aircraft and support equipment components. Many times, my subordinates and I get frustrated when we are struggling with the task and outside agencies are stressing us on time. I will apply emotional flexibility here by controlling my emotions before I get my subordinates to calm down, then I will encourage them to start problem solving while providing them feedback on their approach. If I do not apply this concept and I show my frustration to my subordinates, they may lose confidence in themselves as well as respect for me. If my subordinates lose respect for me, they may not come to me for help anymore which may impact my peers because they will have to take on more responsibility. If I do not apply emotional flexibility and emotions are not under control by all parties, production will suffer and my supervisors may not meet their deadlines. In summation, I believe an adaptable leader employs flexible leadership qualities and contours their approach based on the situation to effectively accomplish the mission. If only I can encompass the principles in that statement, I believe, given the time, I can greatly enhance my abilities as a well-rounded adaptable leader. Making the constant effort and being aware of myself, my leaders, my peers, and my subordinates will ultimately allow me to grow both personally and professionally. In the end it is about the people we work with regardless of their position. Understanding these individuals, their expectations and their goals, is the key. With so many different individuals, adaptation is integral to ensuring we get the bestout of each and every person each and every day.
A leadership theory is a clarification of some features of leadership; theories have practical importance as they are being used for better understanding, anticipating, and controlling successful leadership. Hence, the main principle of any theory is to inform practice(Lussier and Achua 2009). Leadership theories could be classified into eight main categories: Great man, trait, behavioral, contingency, Situational, Participative, Relationship , management (Cherry 2010).
The idea of what’s morally right and wrong changes within each culture whether an organizational culture or between individuals. However, the best leaders are the ones who do what’s right and best for the organization. During this research paper I will attempt to define the term leadership style and its concept. Moreover, I will attempt to describe three leadership styles, the development and the process one would follow to modify their leadership style. When pertaining to myself, I never saw myself as a leader but I will attempt to describe my leadership style and the advantages and disadvantage I would have in a business environment.

During this semester, I have listen to many speeches, and I do like the speech about making changes. I am totally agree with the speaker that human is hard to make changes because of their internal “laziness”. First, his speech notes the “observing-interpreting-applying” theory, which is quite effective to make changes. In order to make changes, the first step is to observe and find out behaviors needed to change. The second step is to interpret these behaviors and find out tactics to make changes. The third step is to apply these tactics to exactly change behaviors as expected. This theory is not only beneficial to change my behaviors, but also beneficial to change my members’ behaviors.

On projects I have taken the lead on, I have always valued input from other employees. This assumes the fact that the employee is competent in their area, and have a willingness to share ideas with management. I encourage active participation, and I am often surprised at some of the answers that have come out of collaborative meetings. When employees feel at ease to share their ideas, genuinely good things

Leadership is defined as a process by which an individual influences others to obtain goals. There are three aspects that should be addressed when explaining leadership. One aspect is that leadership is a social influence process; leadership could not exist without a leader and one or more followers. Another leadership aspect is compliance; all of the leader’s directions must be complied with voluntarily. Compliance is what separates leadership from other influence-based formal authority. Finally, leadership results in the followers’ behavior, that is purposeful and goal-directed which must be in some organized setting (Leadership Theories and Studies, 2009).

Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
