Traditional medicine has been gaining a lot of popularity among western citizen and society these days. This is as more patients and health practitioner take a holistic approach to treatment and healing. Among such alternative medicine is acupuncture. How acupuncture works is fairly straightforward. It helps the body deal with insufficient energy flows when their natural flow becomes clogged. This clogging of energy flow can weaken the body making the body susceptible to illness. Acupuncture is thus meant to reverse this energy flow and start the body's own healing process.
Traditional acupuncture is very effective in promoting body balance. Modern acupuncture uses electrical currents to stimulate and alter neuroendocrine and immune functions.

Acupressure is acupuncture without needles while acupuncture involves the use of thin needles to stimulate acupoints. Both methods stimulate acupoints. However, acupuncture provides a much stronger stimulation and healing ability than acupressure. So, depending on training and diagnosis, you may not need needles to treat a medical condition.
Does your Insurance provider cover Acupuncture?
Dealing with insurance can be quite complicated. It is better to know the specifics before starting treatment. Many insurance companies now provide cover for alternative medicine. However, some still don't. So, before you commit, know whether your provider cover Acupuncture and its related treatment. In addition, find out also if your acupuncturist accepts insurance. Some acupuncturist will take a copay before billing your insurance while others will ask for the total payment and later file documentation to your insurance for reimbursement.
Whichever way, understand the coverage requirements as this will help increase the chances of coverage and probably reimbursement.

Individuals who go through the process of becoming a chiropractor are dedicating their lives to improve others through their own hands. Giving a patient relief and satisfaction without harming their body with drugs that can have horrible side effects is a feeling that is unlike anything else. Facilitating an individual to heal and strengthening their life entirely is what chiropractors strive for and many accomplish that ambition. Additionally, studies and surveys have shown why students of chiropractic chose this profession. The top reasons were that they truly want to help people and heal them, the increase in financial status, and the ambition of having the title “Doctor.” (Wardwell 154). Chiropractors must complete many demanding courses
Auricular acupuncture has a variety of uses, some with more documented success than others. Auricular acupuncture is an alternative medicine with some documented success in treating anxiety, insomnia, smoking, drug addictions and obesity. Not all studies have generated conclusive positive results and more research is needed to accurately evaluate the efficacy of the procedure in treating multiple ailments. Acupuncture is an ancient medicinal practice that originated in China. The name comes from the Latin acus, or “needle”, and from pungere, or “prick,” and involves the insertion of superfine needles into specific points on the body. Once inserted, the needles can be manipulated to stimulate the body for healing effects. Auricular acupuncture is acupuncture performed on the ear. The treatment of auricular acupuncture is preformed on the ear using stimulators such as different types of needles, staple-punctures, probes, magnetic beads, fingers, or harmless electrical impulses. The most common is method is inserting needles. For auricular acupuncture, there are different type of needles that can be used such as a regular half or whole inch needle, press needles, and interdermal needles. Press and interdermal needles are pressed into an acupuncture point and tape is used to keep them in place, as well as give constant stimulation. The ear is thought to contain an innumerable amount of important and potentially therapeutic acupuncture points. This is why it is believed that by using these types of stimulators on acupuncture points in the ear, problems and/or dysfunctions will be revealed throughout the body. (Suen 135)

Since the first report on the success of acupuncture anesthesia in 1970s, much attention has been attracted to the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy worldwide. Analgesia is one of the most important effects of acupuncture. Generally, mechanisms of acupuncture analgesia contain mechanisms of acupuncture anesthesia, but the latter does not represent the entirety of acupuncture analgesia. This is because acupuncture not only treats acute or transient pain, but also chronic or persistent pain resulted from inflammations or other causes. Clinically, the pain usually occurs prior to acupuncture, either needling or moxibustion can be used for treatment. For acupuncture anesthesia, an induction period of acupuncture is required prior to the surgery and only needling or acupressure may be applied. In addition, the surgical pain pertains to the category of acute pain. However, most modern studies on mechanisms of acupuncture analgesia are conducted focusing on the mechanisms of acupuncture anesthesia. In the following discussion, we will first outlook those studies on acupuncture anesthesia, then provide a complementary explanation on mechanisms of clinical acupuncture analgesia, and finally analyze their implications in improving results of clinical analgesia. Primarily, mechanisms of acupuncture anesthesia or analgesia include two closely associated aspects: neural and humoral mechanisms [27].

Steven Schram tells us how fees are handled in Acupuncture, Medical Necessity, and Automobile Insurance Fraud he says, “Billing for additional treatment segments can only be done if specific requirements are met. With few exceptions” (Schram 5) Schram states that most of acupuncture is paid by insurance, and that exceptions of paying with cash are scarce. Catherine Page speaks of how insurance could cover acupuncture for one who wants it. In Management in Physical Therapy Practices she states, “The best way to get reluctant insurers to cover alternative therapies is by making a good case that your treatment is medically necessary.” (Page 199) A doctor or physical therapist almost always has to refer or suggest their patient to receive acupuncture. Just like in physical therapy, insurance fraud could be committed in acupuncture. Physical therapy is a safe profession for people to use, but it is always good for everyone to be aware of insurance fraud. Acupuncture is just another form of physical
Acupuncture: The practice is the insertion of fine needles into acupuncture points (a.k.a. acupoints) just beneath the body surface. Needles varies in length between 13 to 130 mm (0.51 to 5.12 in), shorter needles for face and eyes, and longer needles for more fleshy areas; the diameters vary from 0.16 mm (0.006 in) to 0.46 mm (0.018 in), thicker needles for more robust patients. Acupuncture points are very precise locations and lie on channels of energy. The practice of acupuncture is based on the fact that the stimulation of specific areas on the skin affects the function of certain organs of the body and that health results from a balanced flow of Qi (a.k.a. ‘Chi’) which is circulated through the blood stream through 14 energy ducts called
In conclusion, A Day in Acupuncture was an excellent experience. The author felt energized after her treatment. Recommendations made by Jane have been taken into consideration and some of them such as eating every 2-3 hours, water intake, and applying oil at onset headache are easily achievable. Diet, exercise and meditation are more time consuming, so is still a struggle to do, especially the elimination of caffeine and spicy food from diet. Yes, it is a battle but nevertheless a battle that is worth fighting if the result is no more migraine
In a pain assessment, the pain is always subjective, in a verbal patient; pain is what the patient says that it is. Nurses must be able to recognize non verbal signs of pain such as elevated pulse, elevated blood pressure, grimacing, rocking, guarding, all of which are signs of pain (Jensen, 2011). A patient’s ethnicity may have a major influence on their meaning of pain and how it is evaluated and responded to behaviorally as well as emotionally (Campbell, & Edwards 2012). A patient may not feel that their pain is acceptable and they do not want to show that they are in pain. For some people, showing pain indicates that they are weak. Other patients will hide their pain as they do not want to be seen as a bother or be seen as a difficult patient.
This oriental medicine is one of the safest ways to be cured of a sickness. It has no major side effects. One might experience a little pain or dizziness during the first few seconds of the first treatment, but this is rare. These side effects only occur if a patient is nervous or scared to be treated (RH). Acupuncture can cure everything Western medicine can, from diseases to back pain, without the dangerous, sometimes life-threatening side effects. Many patients turn to acupuncture as a last resort and find closure in its effectiveness. “My daughter and son have never taken a pill in their lives; acupuncture has cured all of their [health] problems” (Dr. Michael.).
Ayurveda, which literally means the science of life (Ayur = Life, Veda = Science), ayurveda is an ancient medical science which was developed in India thousands of years ago. Health is considered a complete wellness of a body including physical, mental and social well-being and Holistic Health is considered a wellness of a whole body including mind, body and spirit. According to American Holistic Medicine Association “Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind and spirit” (Wollumbin, page 3). Holistic Health is an alternate way to treat, prevent, and wellness of an illness and achieves the best possible level of health. It focuses on the whole body rather than just symptoms or diseases. It is an approach to heal the physical, psychological, environmental, spiritual, nutritional health of one’s being. For each individual, the definition of holistic health is different and in simple words it is an alternate way of treatment where physical, mental, emotional and spiritual works equally together to attain a health. In western medicine, standard treatment is given with drugs or surgery according to symptoms or diseases or injuries where a doctor or a physician determines the ways of treatment and the patient has to follow the recommendations. Whereas, holistic health is a complete opposite way to treat the illness where patients cooperate in their illnesses, take the responsibility of their treatments, make their own decision for own level of well-being and thoroughly participate in their health care plan.
