After completing the Access group project I will say that I am proud of the work that my group did because the topic appealed to both of us while also providing me with real world skills that I will need in the future. In the past group projects have proven to be challenging but I will say that working with Lena was a great experience. We both learned from each others mistakes and taught each other how to use Excel and Access. The project was very structured due to the multiple deadlines but was just enough of a challenge for the two of us.
The first milestone was to develop our research plan which was to determine what is the most popular delivery service to use for our diner. By being able to choose our research goal it helped us pick a topic that we both were passionate about. This research plan in particular was perfect for us because we both love food and we both have food Instagram social media accounts. The excitement that we both shared about our research goal made it easier for us to complete each milestone to the best of our ability.

This part of the project had its challenges because our group did not have a lot of experience with Excel or Access. But we did come together to complete the project and learned a lot from one another. During the project Lena and I had very crazy schedules with school work and each of us were out of town at some point. But we had great communication facetiming or texting each other when we had to finish the milestones or had questions for one another. This communicaion that we had resulted in quality work that I am proud of. In previous group projects the communication between people was a disaster but we managed to split all responsibilities up easily. In the business world face to face interaction is hard to get so by being able to develop communication skills now will prepare both of us for the
I believe our group effectively achieved the overall goal by successfully completing the assignment by the deadline. Although we didn’t encounter any conflicts due to different personality, culture or background, they all aroused from different matters. For instance as this was the second time we were all working together as a group with a new member. We had t...
The first chapter of “Working in Groups” focuses on group communication, the first aspect being the key elements of group communication (Engleberg and
Nursing is a demanding career that requires proficiency in many types of skills to ensure patient safety and wellbeing as well as timely efficient care. One important attribute that a nurse must have is to be effective at teamwork and collaboration. This semester I had the opportunity to practice working in a group, and it was a rewarding experience. The benefits of teamwork, such as, creating a group of support and splitting a large task into smaller manageable sections, cannot be understated. I hope that in my future career as a nurse I have the pleasure of working with individuals who are as task driven and understanding as the people I had the pleasure of completing this project with.
Moreover, the group communication that set the member by teacher gave me the useful lesson about how to communicate in team and how to reach the team to the goal. However, there was not useful in some part of group communication assignment because of every group didn't apply knowledge from public speaking course in our second year in their presentation, most of them read the script and don't use their own words in the presentation so I cannot understand the content of presentation as expected. Therefore, I think some part of team presentation were not necessary. Teacher should teach theoretical foundation for all six topics include team dynamics, meeting management, conflict management, intercultural communication, negotiation, and virtual communication by himself, and let the students present about the application of the theory in their real life situations, so we can gain more knowledge about theoretical foundation of each topic from teacher and learn how to work with other people. I think teacher should add more case study or the application of the theory in real life situation because we should analyze all knowledge of a theoretical foundation to find the application of
I thought the communication for the group I was in was pretty good. We worked together on the entire project and no one shot each others ideas or suggestions down, but we instead listened to what each other had to say and discussed our opinions as a group. Even when we would disagree on something I believe that we all treated each other respectfully and tried to either come up with a compromise or a majority rule of how most of the group felt on a particular issue.
Communication in work teams differs from that in traditional organizations due having different communication patterns; establishing trust is a key factor; open meetings are a vital approach for improving communication; shared management is common; listening, problem solving, disagreement resolution, negotiation and compromise are significant factors; and information flows in all directions to all associates of the organization.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. During the meetings, we learn many concepts from the textbook, “Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices” by Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson. We were able to learn different types of concept in the textbook and utilized it as a team to complete certain tasks. The three concepts that impacted my team and I are human
One’s career, school life, and even socializing are affected by communication. If you do not know how to communicate, you probably do not have many friends. Communication has been used since the days of the cavemen. When the cavemen learned to communicate they greatly increased their hunting potential. When they learned to communicate on the hunt and before the hunt, they caught much more game then when they were just randomly running after the animals with spears. In school, if teachers and students could not communicate well, how would anything ever get done? In a business, communication is the most important ingredient. Working at a corporation at a higher level, you deal with hundreds of important emails, meetings, phone calls, and other forms of communicating with your co-workers.
...e any conflict is to become calm an effective communicator. Reinforcing your listening skills are a must when looking to further your communication skills. Let’s face it you want to listen well before setting a plan of action. Never jump into any conversation unprepared, not only can it cause conflict but you can lose credibility if the meaning of what you are trying to say is lost. Verbal communication is always best, talking to another individual face to face is a good idea this way you can judge their reactions by their body language and you can express the correct meaning. But, remember that verbal is not the only form of communication. Your nonverbal communication can say a lot to the receiver (ie. body language). Use supportive messages rather than defensive ones can be more productive. Any conflict can be resolved through correct and effective communication.
Communication and understanding are vital to its success, an individual responsibility is also significant within a colleague, each person need to be able to sharing a clear information, though, ideas, and feeling, being a good listener, respectful and open-mined to other’s idea and emotions. Additionally, each team members are confidence to ask question to simplify other’s ideas and awareness of other feeling based on nonverbal communication. When a teammate has an open communication, this will lead to healthy atmosphere within the workplace and become more effective. For example, when start working together, it will be more effective if begin with planning together, then indicated clearly who is doing what, similarly to the jigsaw, before started to puzzling it, it is better to know what kind of picture, so it is like knowing the key idea and will be less complex to understand (TheArtmadillo,
It is not easy to understand significance of some things and their impact until you actually undergo them. Ability to effectively communicate and work is one such thing. Before I started business communication class, I was very pessimistic about my communication abilities and my competence in rapidly evolving field of business communication. I was unconfident and nervous on my first day of class. I quickly realized that business communication is course that you will never learn until you energetically engage in various situations of listening and speaking. However, with all wonderful experiences of participation in the class, I personally felt that I gained a real experience without even working in an organization. Interactive nature of the class combined with wonderful teaching of Diana has really helped me to gain immortal knowledge. Through this course, I have refined my communication skills and strengthened my confidence to deliver professional standards and competencies emphasized by potential employers. I would like to share how each module of the course helped me to hone my interpersonal skills:
Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
Communication has to be done in an agreeable manner in order to ensure team members work with each other efficiently. After all, sometimes multiple people are needed for a task such a large scale project that needs to be done in a few days whereas normally it would take months for one person. Not only that, but having multiple people on one task allows for an exchange of ideas and new takes on a complicated problem. It can take a while for people to adjust to each other but if all members are willing, then teamwork will provide the best
As in all aspects of personal and professional life, having effective communication is a key element of success. Effective communication can benefit your relationships with people. By conveying your message and integrating them as a member of the team and not just a subordinate leads to better production. By effectively communicating you can clearly define job responsibilities and expectations. The better you are able to communicate the less likely organizational turnover of personnel will occur. Supervisors and leaders in the professional workplace find that the most important factor in advancement and retain ability is effective communication. Senior level executives and human resources managers are stressing the importance of communication and providing more training for mid-level management. Emphasis is placed on communication being clear by being transmitted strongly.
In conclusion, I really did enjoy the this group project. We had great group chemistry, an interesting topic, an effective and consistent preparation period. That sounds like a formula to a successful group project to me. This is probably the most enjoyable group work experience for me at Augustana so far. If I could, I would do it
