Absolute True Diary Of Part Time Indian Analysis

What is literature? It is writing that conveys meaning and ideas after analyzation. Great forms of literature can entertain for generations and still be relatable. Allowing people to express himself and spread their morals through the written word. One special quality that good literature has is that the deeper you go into a book the more meaning you pull out. Throughout the course of the freshman year we read three novels, The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Monkey Bridge. This three form of literature after reading, and analyzing them, helped us better understand yourself, and the world.

The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, is about a high schooler trying to get away from his futureless culture. Although the book was an easy, amusing read, filled with pictures, and funny captions. Portraying the hopelessness of the Native American people, his culture, in his eyes. By analysing the text you dig past this comedic writing to see the true struggles of a kid our own age. “You’ve been fighting since you

were born,” he said. “You fought off that brain surgery. You fought off those seizures. You fought off all the drunks and drug addicts. You kept your hope. And now, you have to take your hope, and go somewhere where other people have hope.”(Alexie pg 43) This quote sums up the whole theme of the book, if you fight hard enough, and try your hardest you can accomplish great things. This theme even leads back to the idea of the American Dream which we also studied this year. The idea of social mobility, meaning if you try hard enough you will progress in life.
To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, is about a young girl facing the turmoil of a town filled with prejudice toward race, sex, and handicaps. Because of the girl being so young the whole book has a sense of native, innocent, never truly feeling the true stress of the station. But filled with topic that most try to ignore and pretend that not there. You see this in tom robinson trial, when there was no evidence that he raped the women, but because he was black he was found black anyways. The book makes the reader think about one's action, and there they were your own or just society pressuring you into a discussion you would not usually choose. After annealing it you can see through the native point of view and see the true struggles back then, and apply them to simar things that we are still fighting.
The last , and most complex, book we read in class was Monkey Bridge by Lan Cao. A vietnamese immigrant, trying to create a new life for herself and her mother in the states, but neither are in a very health mind set, both have PTSD and are constantly reminded of the horror from their war stricken homeland. This was not a book that you can sit back and enjoy the ride, there is secret meaning throughout the whole book. The author uses multiple literary devices to add more depth to the book. Unlike the other two books that both have lights at the end of the tunnel, this one has a sense of depression, and confusion. It allows the reader to understand a whole new perspective on life that most never will expresse. It is the author's way of telling her story and getting her ordeals down on paper. So the rest of the world can expresses them, and share her burden.
Literature allows people to express and share their understand of the world for other people to experience.

It is not just a book but a way of communication and think. This three book show that, each giving the reader a new perspective on the world. In The Absolute True Diary of a Part- Time Indian, reader learns who hard Native Americans have it, it also give a moral of hard work and determination. In to kill a mockingbird, your learn how destructive prejudices can be. It also show how far we have come in the few years, and how if we keep progressing maybe one day there will no “racism” or “sexism”. And final Monkey Bridge opened people eye on how hard it si for immigrants coming to america, it make some think twice before assuming things when you do not know the full story. When you analyse literature it open you understanding of the world, and makes you think about your actions on
