About Time was the first movie I had ever seen that Richard Curtis had written or directed, and I am glad to say that I really enjoyed the film. I think that Curtis was trying to write a love story, but wanted to avoid normalcy by adding a fantasy element that you wouldn’t usually see in a love story. The fantasy twist that was put into the film was that the main character, Tim, came from a family where the men in the family could travel through time and only having a few limitations. I think the characters in this movie show us that sometimes all it takes is one person to help you grow as a person. While watching Tim at the beginning of the movie he seemed like a shy kid. He didn't know how to act around girls and always seemed to stumble on his own words. That is one reason he wants to use his newfound skills to get himself a girlfriend. When he first meets Marry you can tell that he is shy and a bit awkward at times. Throughout their relationship you see spots where Tim says something that he shouldn’t but thanks to the time traveling he can take those words back. By the end of their He talks about how he goes out and tries to live life to the fullest. He goes out and tries to notice everything that is good about that day and doesn’t look back. I think that is a great way to live your life. If you go out and live your life with compassion and notice the good things life is going to be more enjoyable than worry about everything that is going wrong. I thought Yellow Birds was an interesting novel to read because it was written from the perspective of someone who had actually been to war. All the other books that had war in it was written by an author who had never actually fought in combat. Kevin Powers followed the biographical theory by using his background knowledge of actually being at war to help create this work of
