Abby Lackman is an outstanding officer. As Deputy Unit Manager for Chengdu’s Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU), Abby distinguished herself as an innovative leader, a sharp policy advocate, and she displayed a demeanor and actions that are already at the level I would expect to see in a mid-level officer. I strongly recommend her tenure and promotion now. When I had first met Abby, I observed her to be an officer who admirably performed her regular visa adjudicator duties, yet Abby showed great initiative by taking ownership of a vital managerial and leadership role in the section while working in FPU. She was a critical component of FPU consular services, and her management of our limited resources was critical to reaching our mission’s goals …show more content…
Abby’s project was one of the most sought after across VSFS with 26 interns expressing interest in the project which was originally slated for just four spaces. Abby quickly worked to expand the scope of the project to include more interns and aptly supervised all of the work and contact with the 11 intern resources that ultimately signed on. Her initiative demonstrated creative problem solving while maintaining emphasis on the highest priorities of the current administration to do more with less and to strengthen our border security by providing the most current information to visa officers. Abby’s analysis of and reporting on the project findings directly contributed to improving U.S. border security by enhancing Post’s and Mission China’s ability to detect fraud in the visa broker industry, better understand and respond to the many myths that surround the entire visa application process, and strengthen our ability to prevent malafide travelers from securing travel documents to enter the U.S. In recognition of her work on this creative project, I nominated Abby for a meritorious honor
A well-nourished, well-developed Hispanic female named Anna Garcia standing at 65 inches, 165 pounds and in her late thirties was found dead in her house after her concerned neighbor Doug Greene was suspicions as to why she didn't take her dog out like she did normally, and why the dog was barking constantly for two hours. The police received a call from Greene on August 31st at 9:45 am and arrived at the crime scene at 9:56am.The police found Anna lying face down in the hallway. Authorities observed a pool of blood around her head and some vomit beside her. It was 73 degrees inside Anna’s house, while it was 92 degrees outside. Anna was last seen alive by her former husband, Alex Garcia the night before her death. Investigators measured her rectal temperature, and came to a conclusion that she died at 7:00 am in that same morning. A medical examiner was also called to perform an autopsy to see what really caused Anna's death.
Renee Heikamp, 19, and case worker from the Catholic Children’s Aid Society (CCAS), Angie Martin, were charged with criminal negligence resulting in the 1997 death of newborn baby, Jordan Heikamp. The charges were dropped shortly after Jordan’s death, due to a lack of evidence from the investigation of a 63-day inquest. (CBC, 2001). Renee Heikamp and her baby were residing at the Anduhyaun shelter that services Aboriginal women fleeing abuse during the time of his death. Jordan Heikamp had starved to death, weighing only 4 pounds, 4 ounces less than what he weighed at his pre-mature birth, in May 1997; a photograph shown to witnesses at the inquest revealed the corpse of the baby who was little more than a skeleton.
When conducting research for my project, I came across a website that contained a few primary sources regarding the Salem Witch Trials. One of these primary sources was the photo of a legal document explaining the death warrant and reasons for execution of a woman named Bridget Bishop. Bishop was claimed to be a witch in Salem during the year 1692, and the document explaining her significance involving witchcraft resides in the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. My thesis for this primary source is that the judge and jury believed they were seeking justice by executing Bishop, a woman whose death was truthfully based on her differences as a person rather than actual crimes she committed.
Carla Washburn, an incredible, inspirational woman that has sadly witnessed the 3 closest male figures in her life all pass on. This has resulted in Carla becoming depressed over the unbearable experience. Carla embraced in giving back to the community and that’s not surprising because she’s a person of spirituality. While, Carla is the client and is suffering through grief, it’s likely she’d benefit immensely from creating a program to work with the kids in the community and may give her a sense of worth she’s been seeking since these 3 tragedies.
Ashley Smith was a young girl that was placed in a juvenile detention centre at age 15 for throwing apples at a mail man. Her short sentence quickly extended into a life sentence because of so many infractions within the prison system. Ashley suffered from extreme mental health issues and was place in a psychiatric prison facility, however this facility was shown in the documentary to be corrupt and their actions with Ashley were extremely illegal. Furthermore, Ashley wasn’t given the proper help and treatment that she needed, instead she was physically and verbally abused by guards in the prison, and she ultimately passed away in the prison. Her death is still being debated about whether
The article by Rob Guerette is a case study involving the widely-reported increase of immigration into the United States. It tackles migration issues as well as related issues such as border security , security initiatives by individuals.. The article also provides in-depth research about the impact of illegal immigration into the United States including migrant deaths, deaths of non-migrants at the border, border security and the challenges faced by United States border patrol officers. The main purpose of the article was to provide an explanation as to whether the Border Patrol has any effect in saving the lives of people attempting to enter into the United States (Guerette, 2007).
This paper will briefly discuss the formation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). With every government program or agency comes an alphabet soup of acronyms and DHS is no different from the rest. To better understand the agency and concepts that comprise DHS, this paper will also examine acronyms associated with DHS. They are QHSR, HSE, NRF, NIMS, ICS, and UC. Each will get a description while highlighting and discussing core elements or requirements that each acronym calls for or offers.
Over the course of this reporting year Janine’s performance has been outstanding. Janine continues to handle three of the Unit’s largest active federal criminal cases. The USAO continues to allow Janine wide discretion to set the investigative direction of her cases with little oversight. This minimal oversight is a testament to the USAO’s confidence in Janine’s professionalism and ability to deliver outstanding results.
In the decade since the September 11th attacks, the government has taken giant steps to protect the nation from terrorists, spending eye-popping sums to smarten up the federal bureaucracy, hunt down enemies, strengthen airline security, secure U.S. borders, reshape America’s image and more. What would undoubtedly shake the nation resulted in a slew of acronyms born out of Homeland Security; TSA (Transportation Security Administration), DNI (Director of National Intelligence), DHS (Department of Homeland Security), NCTC (National Counterterrorism Center), CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures), NSI (National Security Institute) and ICE (Immigrations and Custom Environment). In an attempt to avoid any future 9/11 repeats, the way in which
The largest task for the US government is protecting the Northern American borders with Canada and Mexico as well all ports of entry. Without the proper border security, we cannot have a secure nation. After 9/11, the government spent billions of dollars upgrading the nation’s security systems but borders security remains weak. The borders are an unobstructed point of entry for illegal immigrants, drugs, weapons, money laundering, human trafficking and terrorist groups. The security challenges along the border offer a variety of issues. The current model in use to protect and deter illegal immigrates, criminals, drug lords, terrorist and human trafficking is ineffective. It is the government’s responsibility to stop these illegal activities and provide protection from all the current problems. The US must set the goal to tighten its border security to decrease the free flow of illegal activities and potential terrorist and WMD’s. This paper will highlight the current problems with border security and the illegal activities that surround the border.
This was a difficult case for me as I sympathize with both sides. I feel that the husband was most ethically correct but there should have been a way to provide for Terri’s wishes not to be kept alive by artificial means other than making her die of starvation and dehydration. Unfortunately, that was the only course available to her husband.

The first recommendation I propose is directed towards Section H.R. 3610; Pub L. 104-208; 110 stat. 3009-546, which came into effect to guarantee that the border was protected from illegal aliens from coming to America and also made applications for illegal aliens even stricter than before (Stevens) . The inputs for this recommendation are the utility costs for computers and internet access, cost for traveling, additional training, and office supplies. The throughputs are evaluations and screening exams. The output includes decreasing the amount of illegal aliens deported and allowing benefits by increasing the application process through the federal level.
The Mexican-American border barriers were originally built as part of a three-pronged approach to diminish illicit contraband, drug smuggling, and illegal immigrants. This operation would curtail drug transport routes from Central America. Three headquarters were established along the Unites States border: operation gatekeeper in California, Operation Hold-the-Line in Texas, and Operation Safeguard in Arizona. These strategically placed headquarters have done an outstanding job securing our borders the past decade, however with drug smuggling on the rise, they require much more support from the government. Regrettably, adversaries of the barriers claim that they are more of a political gambit to instigate foreign affairs and a complete waste of taxpayers’ money. These opponents see the United States-Mexico barrier as an unsuccessful deterrent to illegal immigrants and unwanted drugs that ultimately and inaptly endangers the security and wellbeing of immigrants seeking refuge in the States.
Within the past few months since President Trump’s inauguration, many have become worried about what this means for those who have arrived undocumented. He has promised mass deportations of illegal immigrants and even to build a massively expensive wall to “help” protect us from the rapists and criminals from entering our country. There have already been numerous raids happening throughout the U.S., but these individuals are not the major criminals that the media wants us to believe, many of which have only been convicted of minor things such as a traffic violation or shoplifting (Press, 2017). However, there is another group of individuals who have journeyed to the United States out of desperation, who are under attack by the government with the threat of deportation:
