During the entirety of my high school career, I have pushed myself to take on more challenging courses such as AP U.S. History, AP Chemistry, AP Literature, as well as AP Calculus. These classes have helped me to form study habits which will be applied in college when the workload and expectations grow even more. In addition, I have also formed a small study group with two other girls who are taking all of the same rigorous classes as me and we get together on a regular basis to study for tests or complete difficult homework assignments. As a group, we are constantly challenging one another to think deeper and problem solve, which has helped me in other areas of school and life in general. I strongly believe that this group will push me to
From my experiences in high school, I know the kind of academic environment I want for my college experience. For the last four years, I’ve thrived as part of the International Baccalaureate program at Poudre High School, which bears significant similarities to the Norlin Scholars program: both involve a community of engaged, academically motivated students who take rigorous core classes together and live within a larger school community. The IB program has been instrumental in my development as a student and as a person during my time in high school. I’ve found that being surrounded by brilliant, motivated peers is both motivating and intellectually invigorating for me, and drives me to reach new heights. When your peers are all incredibly well-informed and passionate,
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
My excellence in my grades have resulted in a GPA of 3.7 as I feel that these are the results of all the days and nights that I have spent staying awake studying and completing assignments to the best of my abilities. For me, I consider that skills needed for the future are necessary to possess because it leads to the prosperity of a career. I have committed myself entirely to take all types of experience that will pursue my career as a Master of Business Administration, Finance and Operations. Through my commitment, it develops my leadership skills as I cherish them into my life as a road to success. I have proven that I have achieved a mass amount academically in addition to taking classes a year ahead of the rest of most juniors. Furthermore, this year which is my junior year I am taking a College Now class known as History of the Caribbean. It is an honor to be in a college level class in 11th grade and keep up with the rest of my life and academic
Throughout my two years in high school, I have been trying to maintain a certain grade point average. I’ve passed two of my state tests already and I have yet to take my English II and U.S. History state test. I passed my Algebra I test in 8th grade with Proficient and my Biology I test my freshman year with Proficient. My grades fell off the first 9 weeks of this school year because I had a hard time understanding English II and I ended up scoring Basic on my 1st 9 weeks benchmark test. Now I have made a promise to myself that I will be advanced in everything from now on. I’ve been studying more and working in my SATP practice booklets and now my grades are improving. When I was in 2nd grade I was accepted into the Gifted/Excel class at Bentonia Gibbs up until my 7th grade year at Yazoo County Junior High. Ever since junior high, I have been in the advanced classes, and I hope that will help me with my plan to graduate as one of the top of my class.
The most challenging class that I have taken during my senior year would be AP Calculus. Having to transition in going to Precalculus to AP Calculus have been a brave action for me to do. AP Calculus has been the class of my senior year that I am having the most struggle on. Even though I have been struggling in that class, I have the ability to make myself to go to tutoring with my AP Calculus teacher Mr. Ninofranco in order to clarify my confusions. I had to endure all the challenging courses with hard work and dedication to the subject in order to fully understand it and obtain a passing grade. This year, I have found my strength in having the ability to ask for help whenever I am confused at a certain point. I had the chance to take the advantage of using the resources that my school have made available to me.
I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
After my first few months of college, I realized I enjoy being a college student much more than I enjoyed being a high school student. However, the transition between the two extremely diverse worlds, was challenging at first, I found out how to overcome it. Originally, I couldn’t realize how different the two were, but as time went on, I was about to notice the differences. Not everyone is able to be aware of the many similarities and difference. Some differences include: cost, amount of freedom, and reasons why people are there. On the other hand, both high school and college have similar class structure and both require time management. The better prepared a student is to challenged with these many similarities and differences, the more
My junior year of high school was not one of the easiest years of my life. As a matter of fact, i think so far, it's been my hardest. Especially because of my AP English class. I had several other AP classes and honors classes, but this one seemed to be my greatest struggle. I am one of the very few people who enjoy and are actually great at mathematics. It is my favorite subject, closely followed by science. I always look forward to going to these classes. I also find an interest in government, which is why I currently take AP Government and politics. Back on the English track, I've never been much of a reader or writer, it's just something that I'm not very well at doing. Last year in AP English, I had a wonderful teacher who goes by the name of Mrs.Stagg.
Now I will be attending high school the stress that I needed to do good so that I can get accepted to college and make my parents dream come true was overwhelming. I knew from my teacher said that college was looking for well rounded. So I decided that I need to join as much clubs and activities that I can. The four year at Verbum Dei High School has truly modeled this idea. There were clubs that I truly enjoyed being apart like ASB (Associate Student Body), Mayor Youth Council, Ambassador. There was clubs that I join just because like for example Green Club. I wanted to show colleges that I was truly active around campus. I also wanted to show college that I was involved in sports. I
As for students who are in high school moving onto college none other but family and teachers can help you reach your goal. But sometimes failure gets in the way of these goals, Sherry points out that “Most kids don’t put school first on their list unless they perceive something is at stake. They’d rather be sailing”(566) which in other words means kids won’t try unless you give them a reason to, students will think teachers feel bad for them and just pass them with an easy A or B but that is not good. You shouldn’t feel threatened in order to try in school, you should willingly try in school. Thankfully this is when the teachers give you a reality check. Friedman 's favorite teacher Hattie, she shows Friedman things that really matter in writing and in life. She shows him so much about writing and so much about himself that he himself did not realize. Most people cannot say they became close friends with a teacher but Friedman did, he states that they “remained friends for 30 years, and she followed, bragged about, and critiqued every twist in my career”(105). Another great teacher is McFarland, Rose’s teacher Mr.MacFarland. When Rose went into the College prep class his attitudes changed, his role model was MacFarland and he had taught him his role in life and basically lifted him back up from
Going to a small school, such as Gonzales High School with 750 students, has limited the opportunities of having clubs, sports, and academic course accessible to schools with a much larger population. GEAR UP, a program designed to help students academically, they offered field trips to colleges yearly and after school tutorials, if we ever need extra help. GEAR UP has provided me with answers to questions I have about college, I have also taken advantage of their tutoring and went for help on homework. AP classes introduced me to feeling how the college work would be like. My APUSH class was a challenge, consequently a completely different experience from any other class I have taken. I worked long hard hours on the assignments and studying
During high school, I did not have to study as hard as I do now that I am in college. Usually, I would be able to study the day before the test and score a hundred percent. Although, occasionally, I would be able to skip a few classes and get the notes from a classmate or of course, resort to guessing. However, now that I am in college, the lectures require much more attentiveness and are more complex: composing more information, meaning that one has to proportion time more responsibly and take an advantage of good study habits. My learning skills have made a complete transformation since I have been in college. I learned new things and I actually enjoy learning new things. Nevertheless, these changes required a lot of self control and practice. Going through these experiences have changed my entire persona about learning such as study habits, being more attentive during classes, and going through greater extents to succeed in certain classes.
Calculus is defined as, "The branch of mathematics that deals with the finding and properties of derivatives and integrals of functions, by methods originally based on the summation of infinitesimal differences. The two main types are differential calculus and integral calculus." (Oxford Dictionary). Contrary to any other type of math, calculus allowed Newton and other scientists to process the different motions and dynamic changes in world, such as the orbit of planets in space. Newton first became interested in the subject of mathematics while he was an undergraduate at Cambridge University. Although he did not focus on any of his math classes during his time as an undergraduate because it focused on Greek mathematics, he instead learned
Ever since the day I decided to join community college, I knew that I wanted to become an electrical engineer. My academic experience at BCCC is at the final point of a chapter so far I have 3.733 GPA out of 45 credits. Throughout the one-half year, the classes I took and the activities I did provide me Mathematics, design, physics and electrical technology knowledge. Beside class activities I am a member Phi-theta Kappa honor society, engineering club, and mathematics club. All of these things are prepared me for the next level of coursework and also helps me to gain the proficiency to advance in this sector. I have certain limitation in activities such as research, internship and student competitions due to personal reasons and taking extra
Living up to my resolution, I joined several clubs, both in and out of school and academic and recreational. I also met some of my very best friends in high school. Achieving all of this, friends, memberships to academic clubs and good grades, made up my first successful experience in high school. I was driven by the years in middle school and the promise that I made to myself at the end of eighth grade. Throughout my under classmen years I exceled in all subjects and thoroughly enjoyed the clubs I had joined. I think my downfall for the last two years of school was that I took for granted my good grades and as my classes got more rigorous I didn’t change the way I learned the material, but continued on the same path that I had been following my entire academic career, even when my grades were slipping slightly. Halfway through my senior year, I realized I needed to change the way I was learning the curriculum my instructors were teaching. I’ve always been the type of student to take good notes or listen to a lecture and understand everything the first time around, as was the case in elementary school and middle school. But my more rigorous classes proved to be a challenge for me and I did not know the proper way of learning the material on my own. I started by asking more questions in class and then going to my friends for help on subjects I didn’t understand. After many questions and after school tutor
