I plan to on watching more baseball games and getting to know more about the sport. I want to further my education on the minor’s and AAA league. I would really like to coach little league baseball in the near future. I have always wanted to coach but I have not had the opportunity to do so. In the meantime I plan on learning more about the sport and finding my philosophy as a coach. This class has given me knowledge on the game and motivated me to learn in a sport when losses happen more than wins. I hope I can be a good coach and I hope I can learn to teach kids without making them or myself burnout from the sport. This journey will be a challenge that I look forward to. I plan to give my team all the knowledge I learn about the sport to
This is a story of baseball and how it is a team sport. The book relates with the title by showing how this boy named Sandy Comstock that plays on the Grantville Raiders and has a big game coming up. It was against the Newtown Raptors. He wanted to beat them and become one of the best teams. By the time he knew it he ended up on the Newtown Raptors team and he was going to play is old team. It was kind of like a baseball turnaround.
Every team requires one, and some say it is the hardest position on the field to play. The hind-catcher is without a doubt a necessity to every ball team’s success. This is the position who can take command of the playing field. If played well, one can have a major impact on how smoothly a team plays together and affect the outcome of the game. There are many requirements for the person who plays the role of the catcher: something as simple as being prepared to play the positon, to having the responsibility of making sure the team has a good relationship with each other. However, the most obvious requirement is the athletic ability required and being physically able to play the position. The position of catcher is not an easy position to play, but is essential to the game of baseball.
Right now in America, the world of sports is constantly changing and growing to make the sports safer and fairer. People want sports to be as exciting and thrilling as before, but without the human error that may turn some baseball fans away. Along with this fear, people also want every sport to be as fair as possible, and by doing this most sports have incorporated an instant replay rule. This spring will be the first that the review rule will be in effect, it is a radical decision and game changing because baseballs history is so rich and its structured has not been changed in so long. These changes are not without skepticism though because people believe that the game has been so successful and before being “fair” was not the biggest priority of the game. By adding this rule, baseball’s fairness will be protected in a way it was not previously, but this set of rules is not without skepticism by people who believe there is nothing wrong with the game now.
Ever since the creation of America's favorite pastime, baseball, cheating has been an integral part of the game. Each era of baseball has offered new and improved techniques for cheating the game of baseball. Cheating has become a common occurrence in baseball, from the 1919 Chicago "Black" Sox, who were paid to throw the World Series, to Ty Cobb sharpening the spikes on his shoe to scare off fielders from tagging him out. Other famous cheating acts include Gaylord Perry's illegal spitball, Pete Rose betting on baseball, and the grounds crew manipulating the condition of the field to help specific pitchers. Then there are my personal favorites: Mike Scott using sandpaper to make it more difficult for players to hit, Whitey Ford using his wedding ring to cut the baseball, George Brett applying too much pine tar on his bat, and Graig Nettles who put super-balls in his bat. Most recently, cheating has been found in the cases of Albert Belle and Sammy Sosa, who both had their bats corked. Although cheating has always circulated the game, there is a new philosophy to cheating that has become widespread. Apparently, many players are getting away with this new form of cheating.
Seeing the passion that Mr. Escalante had for teaching and the passion I have seen in some of my personal teachers has inspired me to follow in their footsteps. I want to be able to teach others and motivate them even when they themselves don’t believe they can achieve such greatness. Every student, no matter the ethnicity, socio-economic background or gender is capable of succeeding in the classroom and in life. I will be attending San Jose State University in the fall and plan to receive my degree in Liberal Studies so that I can become an Elementary School Teacher at El Toro Elementary the school that sparked my inspiration to become a
Both on an off the field, my enthusiasm and motivation to obtain a goal is a trait that I am very proud of. I have faced many tasks where a leader had needed to step up and I am always willing to do so. I am also willing to get help when I need it. If I can’t complete a task by myself I do not mind asking a classmate, teammate, friend or a teacher for guidance. By bringing that openness and leadership to University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program I believe that I can also attribute to the University of Charleston’s Mission Statement “to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement.” By bettering the Athletic Training community by providing care to our Athletes I believe that I will be a great addition to the Athletic Training
An amateur was a person who enjoyed playing while a professional was paid to be good at the sport. Amateurism was significant because it maintained the dignity and morality of the recreation or play because people were playing to play and not to make money. College football maintained a serious amateur definition while baseball turned to the world of professionalism. Players were not playing the sport, but they were going to work every time they had a game or practice. It was no longer pure, but for any sport that became professional related back to the importance for teams to seek out the players with the best prowess. This only confirms that as the recreation turned into a sport and the sport turned into a business, people associated with
Information Technology in Major League Baseball Information Technology has quickly become an everyday part of life. It is used in almost every aspect of our lives. It is used at home to check e-mail, send text messages, and surf the web. It is used at work for networking and even many modern telephone systems. In many cases, IT is simply a part of our day.
A travel of over 3000 miles for some, a 210 mile drive for me, just to arrive at the biggest gathering of over 1,500 twelve year olds; all just to play baseball. The only place that would be suitable for such an event is Cooperstown Dream Parks, every baseball players heaven. Cars have come to Cooperstown from everywhere for this week long tournament. I met children my age from all over the United states. I became friends with kids from Ohio, Illinois, California, I even met a player from Puerto Rico who barely spoke any english. The windows of everyone 's car decorated with the names and numbers of teams and players. Excited baseball teams spill from their Barracks and hustle toward the already crowded seating area. Festive music played over
My senior project is about being a coach and how it can be difficult and not an easy task. I wanted to show others that being a coach is something that takes time and effort in order to accomplish it. Being a coach is not a fun job but it is a job that will help you in the future. Coaching is an experience that not a lot of people get to go through but those who do become not just better people but they become teachers to others in troubling times and in time of need. Coaching gives you and also shows you that being helpful and courteous to others actually helps you out as a person and it also helps out the players you’re coaching to be better people and to be kind and not take things in the wrong way and to show them a better way that will help them in their life.
For the past 12 years, I have had the privilege to cheer on many softball teams including my own and others from about my home town. Now that my time as a softball player is coming to an end due to age limits and injuries, I hope to be able to coach at the high school level, and possibly middle school as well. As I consider the game of softball to be a serious sport which requires personal commitment and dedication, my preference is to focus on developing my coaching skills in a high school setting. Softball programs are focused on producing highly skilled athletes and preparing them for the highest levels of competition. As a coach, I will strive to set the expectation levels around the key characteristics of being humble and trusting, while
Over the past few years I have volunteered as an usher at my church, as a food vender at the PGA Honda Classic, helping my best friends mom in her classroom, working a food stand at a local softball tournament, as an assistant coach to a 10U travel softball team, and as a camp counselor at a softball camp. Personally, I think that being an assistant coach for a 10U travel softball team helped shape me a lot. Helping coach the younger travel team felt great to give back to the community, and it made me think of where my own softball journey began. I absolutely loved coaching the younger girls because I am now much more experienced in the game and can help them a lot more and get them stronger so that they can excel more in the game. I want them to love the sport just as much as I did when I was younger so that their love for the game will grow even more just as mine did. Coaching these girls was one of the best things I could’ve ever done. Talking to the girls about when I started softball, what my favorite part of the game is, going to college to play the game I love, how much they love the game now, and how they’ll all be in my shoes in a matter of years had me grinning from ear to ear. I loved every minute of it, I loved hitting to the girls, working on their fielding, pushing them to be their best, making sure they put 110% effort into everything they did, and
I really enjoyed reading your post I am very unaware of a lot of policy that are currently taking place in schools because I don’t have children. General my information is what I see on television or hear from friends. I did know for decades that if a student doesn’t keep a certain GPA that they are not allow to play sports. I wasn’t at familiar with the concept and policy of the University Interscholastic League. Where students are not allowed or banned for a period of time from any extra activities or competitions for 15 class days. In my opinion regardless if the children are failing or not I don’t think banning students is the key for grades. First we must understand that learning problem may not always be the students fault in all
The players are not necessarily going to remember what games they won or what teams they beat, they may not necessarily remember us or some of the players on the team, but they will remember the lessons and skills that they have learned from playing soccer. Although I plan to be authentic with all players and coaches, I also know the importance of being authentic with the parents. I will apply authentic leadership in many situations with the parents because it will be the best way to go about communicating, giving direction, and being enthusiastic towards them. In order to be a better authentic leader, I will better understand my purpose as an assistant coach for this team. I plan to form strong relationships with each of them by connecting with them, showing compassion towards them and their children, and by always sharing my values in word and action. Most importantly, I plan to remain self-disciplined and consistent with all that I
...y own personal development, I plan to attend further coaching training courses, one of these courses is, MAGIC coaching. This is a course run by the Coaching Academy and it teaches the following variation of the GROW model: Motivation, Assertiveness, Goal achievement, Initiative and Confident communication. This variation of coaching is focused more towards young people, and would therefore fit with my aspirations for the future. I would also be interested in attending a basic level course in NLP, as I believe this particular method will also benefit my coaching with young people.
