Mary Oliver’s poem, “A Summer’s Day”, is a metaphor about life and humankind. It conveys the idea that life is precious and should be embraced. The grasshopper much like a human is unique and in charge of their own destiny. Like the grasshopper, I plan to create my own destiny by straying away from the ideal career paths given by my personality results and becoming a marketing manager. Specifically, I’d like to be a marketing manager for a marketing department in a technology based company. I was first attracted to the general marketing field in my previous marketing class. My professor really stressed that marketing was about creating value for a product or company. The idea of establishing such importance not only through marketing, but advertising and promotions sparked diverse interest in the profession. A career in marketing means work with art directors, sales agents, and financial staff members. Knowing that I’m always changing along with my interests I need a career that alters as I do. Scores showed I was 73% extroverted vs 27% introverted, 60% sensor vs 40% intuitive, 67% thinker vs 33% feeler, and 53% judger vs 47% perceiver. From this the career match emphasized profession in sales such as sales engineer, sales representatives, etc. From this I wasn’t disappointed because from my past course sales is a part of marketing. I have learned that although I wanted to stay away from sales it still has interesting points that may work for me. My top match was sales engineers which appealed most to me. Engineering is fascinating to me. To sell complex scientific and technological products or services to businesses and to understand the scientific processes that make these products or services work could be really intriguing. I’d love to combine my passion for marketing and curiosity for engineering which would be possible as a marketing manager for a technology or engineering
