48 hours is a surprisingly well crafted action comedy that has often been recognized as being the first, “buddy cop” film. This genre developed throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, with hit features such as Lethal Weapon, Stakeout, Rush Hour, Beverly Hills Cop and Tango and Cash. Released in 1982 and directed by Walter Hill, it teamed veteran actor Nick Nolte with a 21 year old Saturday Night Live comedian, Eddie Murphy. Murphy plays Reggie Hammond, a quick thinking street smart convict who is released from prison for 48 hours into the custody of Jack Gates, a hard drinking, no nonsense, San Francisco detective, together the two set out to catch Albert Ganz (James Remer) a convicted robber who has just escaped from a chain gang, assisted by his partner Billy Bear (Sonny Landham). Ganz and Bear are on a mission to recover $500.000 from a previous robbery and are on the loose in San Francisco, they have already killed two cops and will stop at nothing

Movies don’t always portait characters correctly. For the most part, the characters will have important details in their life taken out for the sake of entertainment. The Patriot, while an amazing movie, did have a few major inaccuracies. Benjamin Martin, William Tavington, and Jean Villeneuve were all based off of real people from the war. While they were portrait pretty accurately, there were some major differences between the movie and real life.
Stanley Kubrick is considered to be one of the most visionary directors of all time. He had a unique style of making film, from mise-en-scene to narrative, his films draw lines between real and surreal. Kubrick’s movies often portrayed sex, violence explicitly which is why his movies are different than any other director, because it gives a sense of questioning to the audience. His movies were enormously misinterpreted by its viewers and some of his movies didn’t even make to the cinemas.
Incohesive, long, and dialogue-heavy, Inherent Vice has all the potential to flounder. Yet under the steady (or rather, wild) hands of director Paul Thomas Anderson, the film becomes a psychedelic, incredibly enjoyable ride brimming with wit and melancholy. The film follows Larry ‘Doc’ Sportello (played in routinely magnificent fashion by the now ever-reliable Joaquin Phoenix), and his exploits to help his ex-girlfriend, Shasta Fey (Katherine Waterston, also exquisite) investigate a kidnapping of notorious real-estate billionaire Mickey Wolfmann. Ken Kesey's award-winning novel, "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest", was adapted into a film in 1975 written and directed by New York City native Bo Goldman and Czech director Milos Forman. Towards the end of the novel and film, Chief Bromden escapes from the ward. This scene is conveyed differently in the novel and film; however, there are evident similarities between each form of media. This scene is important to the plot because it wraps up the entire storyline. In the film and novel, similarities within Chief Bromden’s escape from the ward include the way Chief escaped, how he couldn't hear anyone in the ward due to being deaf, and how McMurphy assisted Bromden with gaining his confidence to lift the panel and throw it through the window. McMurphy essentially changed Bromden to help him break out of the asylum and back into the real world.
The movie is set within a short space of time (almost real time) in which we see Four of the Six active members of a jewelry heist gone wrong dealing with the repercussions of their crimes. Amongst them is Mr. Orange, or, Undercover Cop Freddy Newendyke, as he’s revealed to be toward the end of the movie. He is the Undercover Cop, The Rat that everyone is talking about. Orange single handedly destroys their operation and essentially Joe Cabot’s criminals-for-hire business seeing as he died by gunshot in the end. However the operation costed Orange his life, or presumably so. That’s something I’ll get to later.

“Forman’s movie without Bromden’s perspective is empty and devoid.” (Shmoop Inc.). Ken Kesey’s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, has been adapted into a film version, directed by Milos Forman. It has won numerous Oscar awards including “Best Picture”, “Best Director”, and “Best Actors”. However, many readers of Kesey’s original novel agree that it did not capture the essence and intent of the story. After reading the novel and watching the movie, I also feel the movie version did not accurately renovate the original novel. With various important scenes missing, confusion about the main character, and an indistinct recreation of the plot, Forman did not precisely revive the authentic purpose into his film.
We expect those endowed with a gift - be it artistic, intellectual or circumstantial - to cultivate that gift and use it as a vehicle for excellence in life. In the movie The Hours Virginia Woolf, the 20th Century British author; Laura Brown, a doted-upon 1951 Los Angeles housewife; and Clarissa Vaughan, a 2001 New York editor; struggle with their gifts and the expectations they, and others, have for themselves. All three women are obsessed with finding the right balance between living, freedom, happiness and love.
I read a story, after I finished reading it my mind was still reeling over what I had just read. Stories like this are quite impressive magnificent; they draw the reader into the story and leave them with a strong impact. How we interpret a text is in itself impressive, as every person is different, every interpretation is too. As I read “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, I could not help but notice that Kate Chopin uses the window to symbolize the future that Mrs. Mallard has been pinning for all her life. Chopin also uses Mrs. Mallard’s heart condition as a symbol of Mrs. Mallard’s marriage. The short story is consequentially the story of an oppressed woman who had to confine herself to the social norms of marriage. Through Formalism Criticism, we will explore the various symbols that Chopin uses to describe how Mrs. Mallard yearns for freedom, and through the Feminist Criticism, we will explore how the institution of marriage oppresses our heroin.
For my movie analysis I selected the 1996 film, A Time to Kill. It takes courage to make a chance and you have to stand up for what you believe in. At least, that is the message I got after I watched this amazing movie. 12 Angry Men, a debut film of its producer, is an American drama film that was released on 1957. This movie which was directed by Sidney Lumet is consists of twelve men having a conversation in a room for most of the time. The running time of the film is ninety six minutes. But even only with conversation, the film can create an intense situation. And in my opinion, this film is totally going in my list as one of the best films I have ever seen.
The movie, The Day After Tomorrow, addresses the issue of global warming. The movie?s portrayal of the events caused by global warming was extreme and not very believable. Some of the information is backed up by science but most is completely off the wall and nonrealistic.
“The Story of An Hour” by Kate Chopin, is a story that has been controversial since its publication in 1894, with reviews ranging from highly critical to great acclaim. The story follows Chopin’s character Mrs. Mallard who is introduced at the same time she is receiving news of her husband’s death. The story is largely a mixture of radical views for its time, subtle meanings, and symbolism. While modern day readers read this story with an open mind, many men - of the 1890’s and much of the 1900’s - would have been outraged at its surface meaning. However, even today Chopin’s story receives criticism for being a gross portrayal of a woman's loss. This is due to the fact that many individuals continue to view the story at face value. Nevertheless, readers of Chopin’s story will find themselves reacting either one extreme or the other. But it is this reader participation that is crucial in determining what the story will be. Despite all beliefs, Mrs. Mallard is a woman who is stuck in her time trying to escape society’s constraints, develop her own identity, all while “coping” with the loss of her husband.
