As you requested, I am reflecting on the Career Service Focus Assessment. This reflection will allow me to be open minded about other career options, but at the same time find out if the degree I am currently pursuing fits my skills, abilities, and interests. I will discuss (A) the Career Service Focus Assessment results and recommendations and (B) strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities to help me achieve my career goals. While answering the questions on the Career Service Focus Assessment, it showed that my interests are in outdoor activities, the environment, agriculture, and animals. Some of my weaknesses, include, being quiet and shy, this makes it difficult to experience a lot of new people and activies. In every job there is some type of communication that is involved whether it is with a customer, co-worker, or boss. It is important to be able to speak up and communicate to others in all jobs. Another weakness I have is being impatient, patience is important in Animal Science because animals do not always do what is expected of them. Patience is a virtue that will help with every aspect of my life. Continuing to work on improving my weakness is very important, so that they do not interfere with my career goals. I consider a strength of mine, the knowledge and experience I have gained working with animals from both 4-H, and on the swine farm. These experiences and gained knowledge, have led me to my career choice with confidence. I have already learned so much about how to handle specific situations with animals. Being dependable is one of my greatest strengths. I always show up on time, ready to work to get the job done. This strength will be important to getting a job in Animal Science, because the employer will know they have someone to count on. My love for animals is a strength that is important in Animal Science because the whole career is about animals, and it’s important to love what you do for a living. Another strength is being observant. Observation is very important when working with animals and nutrition. They can be many threats that could stand in my way in reaching my career goals. Education has become very expensive, this could be a problem with finishing and getting the degree that I am striving for. Therefore, I learned at the end of the interview that this career that I chose to pursue is very diverse. Meaning, there are endless routes, that branches out from this one field of study. The possibilities are endless; however, hard work is still expected. This interview did not reshape my objectives and goals. It has rather made me realize to stick to my goals and objectives. It has reminded me, to continue to be the best; by learning from the best and surrounding myself with the best.
I had the opportunity to take the 16 Careers Cluster Inventory. I found the assessment very easy to take. As well, I found the inventory easy to score. My results of the assessment indicated my top three career areas were: 1. Educational and Training, 2. Health Sciences, and 3 had a three way tie between Human Services, Hospitality, and Law enforcement. I found the assessment to be dead on. Based upon the past personality inventories that I have taken I found the suggested areas very appropriate. One of the appealing aspects of the inventory was the easy of taking it! It seemed to gather accurate information without being overly pathological and test-driven.
One assessment cannot accurately gauge what a person should do for the remainder of his or her life. The suggested occupations from the FOCUS 2 assessment for me are not occupations in which I have a true interest. Even though I possess the skills that would help me have a successful career in that type of field, I feel like I would be bored and unhappy in such a career. The results of my career assessment proved interesting, but did not change the degree I plan to complete at Liberty
Another piece of the assessment that I liked was it provided me with careers that fit my interests and preparation levels needed. For instance, one of the categories was job zone three careers that require medium preparation, such as vocation school training, on-the-job experience, or an associate’s degree. Some of the jobs I found interesting included, electronics and mechanical engineering technicians, web administrators and developers, medical equipment repairer, and aviation inspectors. However, I’m looking more for a career that will utilize a four-year bachelor’s degree, which are identified in job zone four with high preparation needed. For example, I found the following jobs interesting, aerospace engineering and operations technicians, Biomedical engineers, computer systems engineers/architects, financial analysts, forensic science technicians, nuclear and robotics engineers and software developers. For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I must use my strengths to my advantage, to be more effective academically and in the workplace, but I also need to identify and try to overcome my weaknesses, especially professionally.
As an upcoming social worker I understand there are certain traits I portray that are strengths in the social work field. I also understand that were there are strengths, there are weaknesses. I did not realize what my strengths and weaknesses were until I began to practice in the field. Some strengths I have found in myself are good listening skills, ability to handle stressful situations, and time management skills. In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Just like any human, I’ve my own set of strengths and weaknesses. A list of my strengths would be I’m always loyal, helpful and compassionate. If a friend or family member needs help with something I will always be at their side. I consider myself a good listener. The question is “Does your strengths and interests fit your career?” I think that every single characteristic or interest listed here would be more of a job in social working, counseling, or something along those lines. I feel that my major and future career is something that only maybe one or two interest and strengths would actually fit into my profile. So I’m thinking that I might have to rethink my major to make sure it is a good idea and something that I’m going to willing to be able to do for my future success and goals that I want to achieve.

According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development.
