For many of us there comes a time in our lives that we are affected by the deterioration of health, at this point we require the help of medical professions. Behind the knowledge and understanding we have now, coming from the vast extent of scientific research, healthcare professionals are able to diagnose, treat and prevent many illnesses. I would like to be a part of this and I believe that university will provide me with the opportunity, to expand my knowledge of biological sciences to eventually enable me to pursue a riveting career applying biological studies to practical applications. Throughout my schooling, Biology has grabbed my attention by the seemingly effortless way the body functions. Studying A Level Biology has greatly enhanced my understanding of human anatomy and physiology. Studying A Level Chemistry enabled me to link biological concepts to deeper chemical processes such as the way in which ATP is phosphorylated and aspects of protein synthesis. I have enjoyed how each subject has provided a deeper insight into the biological aspects of science, such as immunology and genetics. I have seen the harm that can be caused by diseases and the malfunction of vital organs and wish to prevent such suffering. This is one of the things that has motivated me to be a part of disease prevention as it would enable me to conduct my own research, diagnose patients and both prescribe and discover new treatments. I look forward to developing theoretical knowledge during contact time, whilst participating in practical research and laboratory work by transferring the skills that I have learnt in lectures and independent studies to expand my understanding. I believe I have great analytical skills and attention to every detail due to the sensitivity of the experiments we had to undertake in a laboratory. Looking after one’s health is very important as it helps us to stay away from diseases and live a happy life, which is why I personally worship my health. Therefore, I find it rather interesting to study about the diseases and it’s adverse effects on one’s health. In future, after completing my University, I have a strong desire to help the poor and illiterate people who don’t have access to the healthcare facilities. Since high school, science has always been a subject of interest to me.

When I was younger I always found myself interested in science of all varieties. In elementary school, I aspired to be a scientist, but I was not sure what career path to take. In 10th grade, I found myself in Pre-AP Biology thinking that biology, although fascinating and complex, made perfect sense to me. I took AP Biology during my Junior year and felt that same pull. I loved biology and was certain that I wanted to study biology in college. My big question was what could I possibly do with a Biology degree.
Ever since I was a child, I have been completely enthralled by the human body. How does it work? How are physical and mental processes controlled? What is an actual "adrenaline" rush? Why is potassium used as the lethal injection? All of these questions and many more have been at the forefront of my mind. Attending upper year science classes in high school, allowed me to immerse myself even deeper these scientific inquiries. I remember sitting in my grade eleven biology class, absolutely enraptured by the enzymes, the genetics of disease, the effect of drugs like Adderall and marijuana on the human brain. My knowledge from A-Level Biology and Psychology has allowed me to appreciate and understand aspects of the human anatomy and physiology and also how people interact individually and with the wider society. Studying Chemistry and Maths has been both challenging but intriguing and I have been able to adapt the skills of paying attention to detail, managing, prioritising and conducting extensive research via these courses.
My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
In addition to an unfamiliar environment, health came as another challenge. Beginning my undergraduate at Bellevue College, a severe gastric ulcer led to emergency surgery that left me immobilized and recovering for months. Determined to continue my education without delays, I persevered and completed my education at Bellevue College while gaining an interest in Biology. Transferring to the University of Washington my interest in healthcare amplified while doing research in Developmental Biology. While conducting research I became very intrigued with the evolution of the human body through movement.
I am very interested in the research of infectious diseases. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to make an impact on the world. As a little girl, I remember watching countless documentaries on diseases that affected so many people. Majority of these diseases were rare, but many were not diagnosed early for the person. Unfortunately, because of limited health resources, most of these people had years of suffering. Since then, I have made it my goal to learn more about health and diseases by graduating with a degree in Biological Sciences. Graduating at the top of my class, I studied and enjoyed courses like virology, microbiology, and endocrinology. After graduation, I worked in a lab for a short period. As I progressed to middle and high school, my experience with biology only widened. I went from comparing the anatomy of different dinosaurs from my graphic novels in kindergarten, to inspecting rodents with my magnifying glass in fourth grade, to dissecting animals and studying human diseases in high school. I bought textbooks on pathophysiology, and because few extracurriculars were offered regarding biology, I studied medicine myself.
