For many of us there comes a time in our lives that we are affected by the deterioration of health, at this point we require the help of medical professions. Behind the knowledge and understanding we have now, coming from the vast extent of scientific research, healthcare professionals are able to diagnose, treat and prevent many illnesses. I would like to be a part of this and I believe that university will provide me with the opportunity, to expand my knowledge of biological sciences to eventually enable me to pursue a riveting career applying biological studies to practical applications. Throughout my schooling, Biology has grabbed my attention by the seemingly effortless way the body functions. Studying A Level Biology has greatly enhanced my understanding of human anatomy and physiology. Studying A Level Chemistry enabled me to link biological concepts to deeper chemical processes such as the way in which ATP is phosphorylated and aspects of protein synthesis. I have enjoyed how each subject has provided a deeper insight into the biological aspects of science, such as immunology and genetics. I have seen the harm that can be caused by diseases and the malfunction of vital organs and wish to prevent such suffering. This is one of the things that has motivated me to be a part of disease prevention as it would enable me to conduct my own research, diagnose patients and both prescribe and discover new treatments. I look forward to developing theoretical knowledge during contact time, whilst participating in practical research and laboratory work by transferring the skills that I have learnt in lectures and independent studies to expand my understanding.
