1.1 Introduction
Kobe is a city in Japan ranking sixth in size among cities in Japan. Kobe is the capital of a prefecture known as hyoogo and is situated in the Osaka bay off to the North Pacific Ocean. Its location along a coastline with a natural harbour makes it one of the crucial ports in Japan. The photo below shows from top left: Port of Kobe, Ahaishi Kaikyoo Bridge, Kitano-choo, Kobe Chinatown, and the night view of Kikuseidai and Kobe Port Tower.
1.2 History
Kobe was established as a city in 1889 subject to which it was considered a designated city in Japan. Its location in the Osaka bay, which extends to the North Pacific Ocean, made it favourable link to external trade with the west (Tamura & National Library of Australia 2007). This made Kobe a cosmopolitan port city being Japan’s fourth busiest container port.
1.3 Geography
According to Tamura & National Library of Australia (2007), Kobe is situated in Osaka bay and is also a natural port whose use dates back to 1180 when it was used as a dispatch point for imperial embassies to China. The city of Kobe is long and narrow located between the coast of the north pacific in the Osaka bay and high mountains on the other side. This location however acts as a hindrance to the expansion of Kobe leading to the construction of two artificial islands namely, Port Island and Rokko Island (Dodd & Richmond 2001). The city is however prone to earthquakes of a relatively high intensity. An example is the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995 which led to massive loss of life and damages amounting to approximately 2.5% of Japan's GDP at the time.
1.4 Climate
Kobe has a humid subtropical climate with relatively hot summers and winters ranging from cool to cold. According to Dodd & ...

Leadership in the work conditions is not determined by one’s ability to make decisions quickly or by being self-confident but rather depends on a person’s ability to harmonize workers and having their interests at heart.

Work conditions in Japan are also characterized by presence of group activities. It is a common practice for workers to be members of a certain group. Subsequently, in the event that one makes an achievement, the credit is shared among all the group members. This shows that team work and team building is an important factor to consider while working in Japan and thus Kobe.

Colin Robertson again says that Kobe Bryant used to practice for hours and hours in a day. Bryant pushed himself to make at least 400 shots every practice and he also managed to fit in intense four-hour work outs on top that. On top of a heavily loaded schedule Bryant also had one of the strictest diets in the NBA. Bryant cut sugar out of his diet and he would eat a balanced diet of meats, fruits and he also filled the gaps between his meals with smaller snack/meal items. Also, a man named Rob, who happens to be a famous athletic trainer, got a chance to experience a day with Kobe Bryant while he was getting prepared for the Olympics. Rob says that he met Bryant at the facility at
Dreams come and go every night, but some dreams tend to stay for a lifetime. I have always dreamt to become a professional athlete in some way or another. Growing up I have always looked up to many different athletes. Whether it was Ladanian Tomlinson on the football field or Kobe Bryant on the basketball court I have always had some athlete that I wanted to be like someday.

Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
It is an urban area, although it does have a countryside used for farming rice. However, it is mostly filled with government buildings and factories. One of the buildings would be Tokyo City Hall, costing more than a billion dollars, created by Kenzo Tange. This building looks like Notre Dame Cathedral along with two bell towers on the side soaring over 797 feet tall. As for physical, nature, characteristics, there is a mountain in Tokyo and several other mountains that are visible near Tokyo, one would be Mount Fuji. In Japan they speak Japanese, but they do have signs and posters that are in English. There is not a set religion in Japan, however; Jesuit missionaries were sent from America. Japanese people focus more on the teachings of Confucius instead of a main religion. The climate of Japan was not really described. However, we do know the time period for the book was throughout the 1990s and was published in 1999. This means that some of the descriptions of Tokyo or other cities are not as correct as they used to
This city has its own airport called the Santa Monica Airport which is a well-known as an air hub and for general aviation and business jets tourists and travelers. This airport is about 2 miles away from the Pacific Ocean, and 6 miles away from the one of the famous airport in USA, LAX.
Between the years 1636-1853 Japan was in a state of self-imposed isolation from the world. This foreign policy, known as Sakoku in Japanese or “closed country,” is used to represent this period of isolationism. Sakoku was set up by the Japanese Shogunate in order to remove the growing colonial and religious influences of European nations in Japan which were seen as a threat to stability and peace. This period of isolation remained nearly untouched for over 200 years until four American ships showed up in Tokyo harbour in 1853, demanding that the Japanese open up their ports for US trade. This historical event is considered an incredibly important moment in Japanese history as it represents the birth of modern day Japan. The forced opening of
The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, or ‘Pearl Bridge’, is built across the Akashi Strait in west-central Japan. This massive structure connects the city of Kōbe- situated on the main island of Honshu- to Iwaya on Awaji Island. The project began in May, 1988, and was opened to the public in April, 1998- almost a decade following the beginning of construction.

To be a leader is the ability to set out a goal, motivate others to achieve that goal, and lead that team to victory (O’Leary 2000, p. 1). In numerous environments and situations having a leader is necessary. According to O’Leary (2000,p. 1) there is no single definition of leadership. The paper states that once someone understands this, they are on their way to becoming an effective leader. Hay & Hodgkinson (2005, p. 145) argues that the reason people struggle to understand and teach leadership is because of the ambiguity surrounding its definition. Ten years ago, experts reached an agreement stating that leadership in an organisational setting revolves around persuading, motivating and aiding others to contribute to the efficiency and success of the organisation of which they are members (McShane et al. 2013, p. 382). Mcshane et al, (2013, p. 382) also defines shared leadership, which is the idea that leadership is broadly distributed, rather than placed on one person. This essay aims to explain the relationship between power and leadership, and why some leaders are more powerful than others. It also describes the different perspectives of leadership, and states that the contingency perspective is the most effective. It will also compare the leadership preferences of men and women.

The Tokyo Bay region is both the most populous and largest industrialized area in Japan.
Japan can be a dangerous place. Three of the tectonic plates that form Earth's crust meet nearby and often move against each other, causing earthquakes. More than a thousand earthquakes hit Japan every year. Japan also has about 200 volcanoes, 60 of which are active.
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
