In my book, A Chance To Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael, Amy was a missionary to India. In this book by Elisabeth Elliot, the main focus is Amy Carmichael’s strong and unshakable faith. Amy Carmichael’s faith changed the lives of many children. The lesson I learned the most is the lesson of sacrifice. She forsook all to bring true joy to the nation of India. Here is her story. Amy Carmichael had to go to Belfast to bring out God’s will for her. She went to her mission field, India, in 1895. Amy Beatrice Carmichael was born on December 16, 1867 to David and Catherine Carmichael in Millisle, Ireland. Amy had six siblings: Norman, Ernest, Eva, Ethel,Walter, and Alfred. At twelve, she started to go to school. Amy got saved at the age …show more content…
She was a true woman of God. She had a close and personal relationship with God; so much so that she found that admitting pain or weakness was disrespecting God. Though she had many weaknesses and her character wasn’t perfect, she had given her all to the Lord. She left her home and turned down two proposals of marriage. She saved hundreds of children and some of them have returned to Dohnavur to honor Amy’s memory. One of her most well-known quotes was,“You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” The reasons I most admire about Amy Carmichael was her courage and her strength. She never wavered in her faith to God. She went through many discouraging events in her life. She hid her hurt and only spoke to God and her closest friends so she wouldn’t hurt anyone else. In this way she and I are very alike. She was a blessing from God.
This book was well written and the author researched her topic well. After all, she is Elisabeth Elliot, the wife of Jim Elliot, a famous missionary. She knew what being a missionary meant, and for this reason, had a more in-depth biography of her life. I also loved how Elliot puts her opinions in the book as she was writing this

Evaluation: I thought the book was very exciting and suspenseful like her other books. The book had very good detail and an interesting plot. I liked the twist when Juan and the girl’s father came upon Glenn walking down the road. I also liked how the author described the action in great detail. It made me feel like I was right there seeing it all happen firsthand. I don’t think that the author could’ve made this book any better than she did already.
In her book she talks about being happy and how the Bible says “But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful” (Psalm 68:3). Throughout our days we have many thoughts, some are good and some are bad! But something important to remember is that what you think about will come out in your life. So it’s really important to keep your mind pure and think about godly and uplifting things. We also have this thought that we need certain things in life to be happy and that’s a lie. All we need is God, and we don’t need to live life thinking that we have to walk around pleasing everyone’s needs. The most important thing at the end of the day, Is that you pleased God and glorified him with your actions. Many relationships come our way in life, but the most important relationship is the one you share with God.
Her views and attitude are similar to how I would act if I were in her shoes. I can't say I would be as patient as she is, but for the most part, I related to her. I looked forward to see what she would do next. I haven't anything negative to say about this book, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is open to read a fun book. Sarah Polley’s film Stories We Tell is as much about how we interpret images – what we take as “true” – as it is about how we remember. Through a close analysis of the film discuss what you think the film sets out to do and how it achieves these aims. In answering this question you might also want to look at reviews of the film.
Amy Tan, in ?Mother Tongue,? Does an excellent job at fully explaining her self through many different ways. It?s not hard to see the compassion and love she has for her mother and for her work. I do feel that her mother could have improved the situation of parents and children switching rolls, but she did the best she could, especially given the circumstances she was under. All in all, Amy just really wanted to be respected by her critics and given the chance to prove who she is. Her time came, and she successfully accomplished her goals. The only person who really means something to her is her mother, and her mother?s reaction to her first finished work will always stay with her, ?so easy to read? (39).
The article starts of on Amy reflecting on how for years the way she approached work was to be a nice thoughtful person to everyone, even when it wasn't necessary. She states how she would always say please and thank you and express concern for other peoples problems, in their work life or in their personal life. She very clearly stated that she was not a boss, but had a mid level position in the company, and implied she never understood why she was stuck there and had not moved up in rank in the company.
*All in all I would say that this novel is definitely a good read. I found my self at times relating my own thoughts and experiences to that of the characters in the book. This is the very reason I would recommend that you give your class next semester the option of reading either this book or another. From my point of view, I think that most men can not relate to certain situations that occur, which lessens the overall significance of her writing.
Some may consider this book bias, but I consider this book to be a true well written story of a woman who struggled and who never gave up. A story that actually used her diary entry that was implemented into the chapters. The author gave the reader the opportunity to see how hard her life was and how she withstood all that came at her, in a way this book an inspiration not only for women but rather to all of us.
Mary "Lallie" Goddard was born on December 28, 1922, in New Mexico. She has two daughters and two grandchildren, one boy, one girl. She enjoys exercising regularly and volunteering her time with others.
Amy Van Dorn is a girl with Cerebral Palsy, meaning she has to use a walker and a Pathway in order to speak. Amy is way above average when it comes to intelligence and is definitely aware of the way people see her. To me, i thought that her character was very compelling, because she is not the typical heroine that you read about in every other story. But she is still just as astounding. I also enjoyed how wasn’t afraid to approach people and talk to them even if she knew that they didn’t want to. Especially because not everyone would be willing to just throw themselves out there like she did considering her circumstances.
Agnes (Mother Teresa) parents were Albanian. She was one out of five siblings, but only three of them survived (“Mother Teresa Bibliography”). Unfortunately for her and the family her father died when she was between the age of seven and nine years of age. By this age Agnes felt and knew that she had a great love for god. After Agnes father died she was very involved in the church. Agnes heard the calling of god about the age of twelve for her to devote her life to him (“Mother Teresa-Facts”). Since, she was too young to join the nuns so she just continued to go to church until she was of age to do so.
''The deepest feeling always shows itself in silence; not in silence, but restraint.'' (Mariannne Moore 552) Marianne Moore a well know modern American poet of her time created remarkable poems with greater meanings behind the scenes. Marianne Moore uses symbolism and structure to bring out the flaws in society. Marianne Moore's life childhood, college encounters, career experiences and achievements made her the remarkable person that she became.
Overall, I thought the book to be educational and enlightening to what a political wife has to endure in her life. Youngs work clearly describes Eleanor's life in detail. Giving great emphasis on her background as to why she became the woman she portrayed was very helpful to understanding her actions as a wife, mother, and politician.
