There are so many jobs in the field of marketing that opportunities are endless. Some of the different fields are Business Development, Creative Assistant, Marketing Research Analyst, and Public Relations Assistant, just to name a few. One of the jobs that I am most interested in is an Advertising Manager. “Advertising managers create interest among potential buyers of a product or service for a department, for an entire organization, or on a project basis. They work in advertising agencies that put together advertising campaigns for clients, in media firms that sell advertising space or time, and in organizations that advertise heavily. (Advertising and Promotions Manager, 2015)” As an advertising manager, you are responsible for publicizing and marketing a company’s product for their customers. In an attempt to expand the companies influence Jumpman23 uses professional baseball player Derrick Jeter to send its message and promote its apparel. In the essay “Absolution for Sale,” Charity Miller writes, “We live in a world of images. Among the most persuasive and insistent of these images are those directed at us by advertising. These images often do more then simply try to persuade us to buy a particular product or use a particular service. Throughout time the evolution of American advertising has drastically changed. What hasn’t changed is the way that women are being presented. From the roaring twenties to modern time magazine ads have always advocated the main focus to be a woman’s beauty. In “Beauty… and the Beast of Advertising” Jean Kilbourne argues that advertisements sell a lot more than just their products: “They sell values, images, and concepts of success and worth, love and sexuality, popularity and normalcy” (1). Kilbourne states that in advertising there are two types of women, “Housewives” and “Sex objects”. Kilbourne calls the sexually objectified women “a mannequin, a shell” because their beauty is flawless, they lacks all of the imperfections that make people appear human (2). It is not impossible to get a job with a bachelor’s degree but to stay on the safe side, a person should really get a master’s degree. It is always a great idea to be educated in other areas other than marketing that will help benefit you and your future job in marketing. Being a big talker would make this an easy job because a person who wants to become a marketing manager needs to have strong communication skills as well as presentation skills. Someone must be willing to go after what they want, be able to juggle many things at once especially while under a whole lot of pressure, and have a creative mind when it comes to having to make up things right on the spot. A marketing manager must be able to work well with people that they work with as well as working with new employees in training how to do the job and motivate them to do their best. Since most of marketing occurs on the internets nowadays, they will have to be well educated with computers, the internet, and budgeting of many kinds. Having extraordinary communications will also be a big factor in this field of business and will help you the most.
