Muslims, people of the religion of Islam, believe in one God, who they call Allah. They also believe in all his angels, creations, and in his prophets, who deliver his message. Some prophets include Adam, Enoch, Noah, Eber, Jesus, and many more. The most recent prophet was Muhammad and is considered the founder of Islam. There are said to be over one-hundred- and-twenty-four thousand prophets, but only twenty five are mentioned by name in the Quran. Muslims believe the Quran is based off of a tablet that exists in heaven with God. There are five pillars of Islam that all Muslims practice. Anybody that can wholeheartedly say” la ilaha illa'llah (there is no god but God), and Muhammadun rasul Allah (Muhammad is the messenger of God)” is considered a Muslim. Another pillar of Islam is Hajj. Hajj is highly encouraged for every Muslim at least once in their life. Hajj is a pilgrimage to mecca, the purpose of which is to pray to Allah and to see the kaaba. Of the five pillars of Islam Hajj is the only one not mandatory, though it’s highly encouraged. Muslims are credited with the creation of algebra, coffee, marching bands, torpedoes, the guitar, the lute, and much more. Without the creations from Islam, our world would be completely different. In Islam women have almost all the same rights as men. Women can own property, earn an income, keep their last name in marriage, and can do just about all the same things as men. Any person from any nation, ethnic group, and gender can be Muslim. In the quran there is no racial discrimination. The word Muslim actually means to surrender oneself to god. The Religion of Islam views Muhammad as the last prophet. He proclaimed revelations that he understood to be from God. Muhammad believed that Gabriel was sent by God to deliver these revelations. His companions recorded those revelations and they are known as the Qur’an. After receiving the revelations, Muhammad shared the Qur’an with the people of Mecca. Muhammad tried to persuade people to abandon their polytheistic religions. (Hussain) Polytheism is a religion in which you worship multiple Gods. The iconic set of rules that Islam follows are the Five Pillars of Islam. They are a set of rules that are expected of all Muslims, or followers of Islam, in order to achieve eternal glorification. Some of the pillars include the Shahada which is the confession that Allah is the one true God and Muhammad is his trusted prophet, the Salat which are prayers said five times a day facing Mecca, the Zakat which is the giving of alms, the Shawm which is a fast during Ramadan, and the Hajj which is a pilgrimage that all Muslims, that are able, must take to Mecca. The sacred text that Muslims follow is titled the Quran. The Quran consists of teachings that Muhammad wrote while being divinely inspired by Allah.

Muslims must recite the profession of faith, pray five times a day facing Mecca, give alms, fast during the month of Ramadan, and make a pilgrimage to Mecca. The Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca that takes place in the last month of the year, and that all Muslims are expected to make at least once during their lifetime. As with the sawm (fasting), exceptions are made for those who are physically or financially unable to fulfill this obligation, and one is commanded not to make the hajj if to do so would cause hardship for his or her family. However, those unable to go themselves may fulfill their obligation by sending someone in their stead. Over two million Muslims make the Hajj annually.

Allah can be translated the God which adheres to Islam’s strict monotheism. God is considered to be the creator of the world and human kind. Muhammad in Islam is considered the seal of the prophets no other prophets can come after him. The world seemed ignorant and the people were living immoral lives so God sent Muhammad. The name Muhammad means to be highly praised. He was born into the tribe of Mecca. The prophet Muhammad was born into a life that was not easy and had a troubled childhood.
Muslims believe that the absolute deity is Allah. However, they also believe that there was a string of prophets sent by God to teach his word. The last of these prophets was Muhammad. His life is used as a foundation for Muslims to see how they are supposed to live and to help explain the teachings of the holy book of Islam, which is called Holy Qur’an. These teachings are said to have been revelations that Muhammad received that confirmed the God’s unity and the direct life in the world.

The worship of Allah is principal in a Muslim’s mind at all time. There are also five formal acts of worship which help strengthen a the faith and obedience of a Muslim. They are frequently called the “Five Pillars of Islam”. The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework and guidelines of the Muslim life. They are the testimony of faith, prayer, supporting the needy, fasting during the month of Ramadan, and the once in a lifetime trip to Makkah for those who are able to do so. These Five Pillars are the thing Muslim’s do to please God and to keep themselves well and happy in this lifetime and for the future ones to come. It was Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, who was reported to have said, “Islam is based upon five pillars”.

The Qur’an is their most important scripture; it contains messages sent from God to Muhammad (God’s messenger). The Islamic religion is a way of life for the Muslims and teaches them to be kind, respectful, and selfless. All Muslims are seen as equal before God and each other. About 23% of the world is Muslim, which shows that Islam is a widespread and accepted religion.
