Twelve Trees is a company that originated in Canada. One of the advantages of this company is that they originated a diverse country which they can hire any nationality. It would be an advantage for them to hire a Mandarin speaking employee since it would cost less compared to hiring an outsourced interpreter. On the other hand, while working with an interpreter, they must have a list of questions to be asked so that they can follow the conversation flow between Defang Hezuo’She. In addition, to ensure the integrity of the meeting, they should bring one more interpreter so that they would be able to decode Defang Hezuo’She message to the Twelve Trees perfectly.

culture of a different society. There are several factors to be considered as a high context society. First, high context society is not straight to the point when speaking to other people (Jeffrey, 2016). They see to it that they think before they speak because they want to make sure that the words that come out of their mouth will not offend the person they are talking to. Second, they believe in long-term relationship. Money is not only the source of doing business, they also want an established relationship honored with trust and respect to each organization. Having these traits will ensure the longevity of the relationship between companies. And lastly, they do business face-to-face. Chinese are sometimes hard to understand especially when doing business through online. (Jeffrey, 2016) The best way to get the desired result is that they have to meet before doing business. It is advantageous for both parties so that they know that both companies are serious about getting the job done. On the other hand, with this type of society, it might be costly for Twelve Trees to do business with them since they want the owners/company to be bonded they might need to travel to China every now and then. But on the contrary, it is also advantageous for them because once that trust is built, they can ensure that the relationship of both companies will prosper (Jeffrey, 2016). Another point to consider is that Canada is part of a low context society, meaning they want to get things done immediately, if they can process all the orders through email or through phone call it would save them a lot of time and money (Kiselbach, 2017). So, in general, there might be a conflict between the two companies. But since Twelve Tree increased their market value by 37% and they are in need of more suppliers, they have to follow the demand of the Chinese people in order for them to close the deal and to have a continuous relationship. What are some non-verbal communication techniques, and explain why it is important to read and understand these symbols. Since Twelve Trees trade team cannot speak Mandarin and it may be hard for them to read them in terms of verbal communication due to the fact that they are not blunt when explaining an idea, then there is a need to decode their suppliers body language in order to know if they agree or disagree with the terms and conditions of Defang Hezuo’She. One thing that they have to watch out is the suppliers tone of voice. With the different tone of voice, they can eventually distinguish if the supplier agrees or disagree. In addition, since they treat people with utmost respect, it can be easily distinguished if a person is telling the truth or not just by making an eye contact. Lastly, they also have to be mindful of the facial expressions and the gestures of the person. Just by looking at their faces, they will know if there are uncertainties or if they do not agree with some points. Knowing these signals will give Twelve Trees an advantage about the do’s and don’ts when speaking in front of their future supplier (Jeffrey, 2016; Admin, 2016). What steps can Twelve Trees take to ensure that the agreement they have with Defang Hezuo’She continues to be profitable and stable well into the future?
In order to prolong their ties, Twelve Trees should be proactive in taking care of their supplier. Since the people of China have a high context society, Twelve Trees should tap on relationship building not just focusing on business alone. One example of this would be giving gifts to Chinese special occasions like Chinese New Year. It is an important year for them, so as a business partner they also have to respect them by sending a greeting of offering a gift so that the supplier will know that even Canadians value their religion and their culture.
In addition, Twelve Trees should also follow the terms and condition of Defang Hezuo’She. If the company gave them a quota they must comply with their terms to avoid conflict between the two companies. In doing so, Twelve Trees are building trust with the Chinese company that will surely be beneficial for them in the long run.

Professional providers of language in medicine or medical interpreters are often portrayed as invisible language facilitators (Angelelli 7). This means that their role is to convey the meaning into the other language between parties in the interaction which is accomplished through a conduit role or message converter role. The incremental intervention model of interpreting lets interpreters use a variety of roles including cultural broker and advocate role. Advocacy is a role that an interpreter takes that moves from interpreting the communication between speakers to acting on behalf of one of the speakers based on the interpreter’s understanding of what the speaker’s intended outcome is (NCIHC). It is challenging for medical interpreters to judge when to switch from their role as message converters to become patient advocates, and speak out in their own voice on behalf of a patient maintaining, at all times, high ethical and professional standards. When interpreters step in the role of patient advocate they become visible in the interaction going beyond the conduit role and becoming co-participants in the triad. North America has a monochromic culture, where time is treated as a valuable resource and business tasks are needed to be completed as quickly as possible. Mexicans follow a polychronic culture, which emphasizes relationship. Thus, Alan, US sales representative in Mexico, experiences difficulties with doing business because people with whom he works get used to be late on the meetings. Moreover, his hosts want to talk about sightseeing and his family in order to establish a relationship. Mexico is also characterized by high-context culture, where communication is conveyed implicitly and considered as a means to establish relationships. Alan’s low-context culture leads to employees’ miscommunication because he counts long not job-related conversations irrelevant. In addition, family is the first priority for Mexicans, so Alan’s meetings are frequently interrupted by customers’ children who come into the office.
Chung has been operating under what he feels are the established norms for his culture. Ted's relationship with the Taiwanese client exhibits the Chinese management principles of paternalism, particularism, and insecurity. The patron-client relationship is based in a sense of mutual obligation, where the client is expected to defer to Ted's expertise and Ted is expected to trade the account responsibly. (Moorhouse, 2005) Ted also used social networking to establish himself in the community which is expected in the Chinese culture. By attending events Ted increases his “visibility and prestige” which contributes to the face that is needed to be considered a trustworthy business partner in the Chinese community. (Moorhouse, 2005) Karen had trouble understanding these differences in culture which is the root of the problem in this case. As stated in the case study Ted was in his early forties were stable and responsible. Karen admitted that she didn’t really know the whole person (referring to Ted) but wrote it off to the fact that he was Asian and she was not. Karen would not be described as someone with much “Cultural Intelligence” defined by the text as “the ability to accurately interpret ambiguous cross-cultural situations” (Robert Kreitner, 2008) Figure 4-2 in the text defines the differences between Low and High-Context cultures with China being a very High-Context culture and North American countries being Low-Context. Communication is an important part of people and its culture and I want to help create equal access to both the Deaf and hearing. Just as Ms. Cynthia and Mrs. Kathrine have so kindly given me guidance, wisdom, patience, and shared their own life lessons daily, I hope one day to be able to do the same for others interested in this rewarding career choice, notice I did not say easy. There is a lot of work that must be put in to this career choice and this paper shows that many ethical decisions have to be made daily and many of them on the spot, in the moment decisions. However, I did say rewarding, why? In the past sixteen months I have seen the difference that interpreters that follow and also live by their professional code of ethics can make in the lives of their clients. Often times during this educational journey I have thought about throwing in the towel and walking away, but if I can make a difference in one Deaf clients life it has all been worth it. For the last and final field assignment, I wanted to challenge myself by taking on a previous issue I have had going out on these field assignments. I figured that because Super G is an Asian market, I just knew that had to speak Asian, and I would just have to communicate using every ounce in my body. Today, more American’s are becoming more sensitive to the differences of other cultures. This sensitivity and understanding has come with a price, after a long string of business failures. It is not until a business fails miserably in another country that they see the adjustments that should have been made in order for their success to be a possibility. With an understanding and sensitivity to the customs and beliefs of other cultures, it is possible for successful businesses that have originated in western cultures to also be successful in foreign countries as well.
For people who use interpreters, managing everyday tasks is made more difficult by not having access to the predominant language of the region. Since so many aspects of their life require an interpreter, it seems reasonable that they would want to work with an interpreter that they trust as the interpreter will be privy to much of their private information through their interactions. Trust is often a deciding factor in whether people, herein patients, choose a family interpreter or a professionally trained interpreter. Trees are usually considered as bland, unusual objects that are usually taken for granted; however, I believe there is more to a tree that meets the eye. They supply oxygen and shade. During the holidays, trees are able to spread holiday cheer by wearing holiday decorations. Through providing, they are always beneficial to the needs of others. Rather than having striking beauty like a flower, trees have are grounded and possess a gentle beauty; they are adapted wildflowers to their environment. In fact, if I had to compare myself to an inanimate object, I would choose a tree. A tree has many characteristics in common with me. Characteristics like relying on our roots, strength and observation, and helping others and leaving behind a powerful legacy are a few of the traits we share.
