My ambition to study business education and to pursue a business career began from a young age. When I was in 8th grade, I had attended a marketing seminar with my father. I had witnessed many people give speeches and talk about entrepreneurship and other things. Since then, I wondered how it would be like to be in their shoes dreamt of one day to be an entrepreneur or work in an administrative position. Since then, I set a goal to study business during higher education.
My interest in business grew over the years. Gradually, I found out new things about how businesses ran and how different people work together and play different roles in a business. Over my high-school years I have taken several elective courses that I found interesting. I took a business course in Grade 10 where I learnt about the basic fundamentals of business. During that course, I learnt in detail about the basics and different sectors of business. Apart from school, I tried to explore how businesses worked in real life. When I had went to buy my guitar I was amazed at the store. Steve’s Music Store was a massive place where a large number of people worked, attending customers, keeping track of the equipment, maintaining storage, etc. I met and talked to the manager of the store to describe my awe at how he managed to run this huge business with so many people working together, each playing a different role. Watching TV programs like ‘Dragon’s Den’ or ‘Undercover Boss Canada’ inspired me even more. I was fascinated at how people came up with innovative ideas and how they manage all the people who are working in their business.

Lastly, I learned that if I decide I don't want to pursue a degree in economics, and instead I want to launch my own business, I must pursue a business in an industry, or lack thereof, that I could commit my life to.
Many people desire to own a business, and many people go on to do so with knowledge and without having the proper knowledge. Working for two non-profit organizations much knowledge was gained in knowing how to operate these entities effectively and meeting with success. It was not easy due to the many mistakes made by management. Understanding the business is paramount before starting or working for a company. Many people only think about the possibility of making money but very few evaluate the possibility of losing money.

The first type of career that was brought up to my attention was an enterprising career. There were a number of enterprising careers, but the one that interested me the most was business management. I decided to choose the business management because I am majoring in Sustainability and my focus is in Economics. Education has always been a primary concern for my parents, who taught me that if I need to succeed in life, I have to be educated. Following their guide, I have always valued and tried to get the most of any educational opportunity I have had. Having grown up in a business family, I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. My Mother and Father own their own company, and they are constantly talking about business, which has inspired me to follow their path. When my parents retire, they want me to carry on their legacy. For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. My love for business is not something I was born with. It took over a decade of experience and exploration to discover my passion. This discovery began ten years ago when I accepted a position at The Pitney Bowes Corporation. My job was to make unsolicited phone calls to prospective businesses in order to sell our base model postage meter. All that was required was reading a script, word for word, to potential buyers. Yet, after a week of working at Pitney Bowes, I still didn't know important details about the meter, like what it looked like, and how it actually operated. My manager acted a bit surprised when I asked to see the meter, but she agreed, and I took a walk to an adjacent building where I saw first hand what I was selling. It looked completely different from what I had expected, but by viewing and touching it first hand, my ability to convey to people what I was offering improved dramatically. Once I viewed the device, I felt more confident to adlib on the sales pitch. In a couple of weeks reading my hybrid pitch led to a higher rate of sales. People were more apt to buy from someone who sounded like a person and less like a robot. My sales steadily improved and in my third month I was the number one sales person out of over 200 employees. Management implemented some of my changes in the selling process and as a result, overall sales of the entry model postage meter increased significantly.
As a child, have you ever been asked what do you want to be when you grow up? When I was little, all I ever wanted to do was open up my own dance company. I chose to study Business Administration because I love the feeling of being an in professional and sophisticated manner. I really feel as though choosing the business field was the best option I ever made for myself because I’m getting the opportunity to show many people out there how professional I can be and also the skills I have as a person.
I was very fond of business administration and I gained a lot of management skills and knowledge on how to manage and develop business as well my personal life. I am very focused on business management specifically on an international aspect because I am interested to know in depth how business works locally and internationally.
