Streptococcus mutans is a bacteria that is involved in the human body’s normal flora. S.mutans can be found in the oral cavity and now researchers are finding the bacteria in the heart valves. The bacteria prefers temperatures of the human body but needs an acidic place to live. Making S. mutans and interesting bacteria to study.
Streptococcus mutans is a gram positive cocci shaped bacteria. It is a facultative anaerobes. Streptococcus mutans is found in the oral cavity and now can be found in the heart tissue and valves. Considering the fact that Streptococcus mutans is a facultative anaerobe the bacteria is often found in between your teeth, around your gum line, and on your occlusal surfaces. Streptococcus mutans lives in temperatures that range from eighteen to forty degrees celsius falling into the mesophile category. Streptococcus mutans changes the environment by adhering to a bio-film layer produced on the enamel surface of your teeth from such things including: acidic foods that contain sugars and starch, drinks that contain carbonation and sugars, whiting products, tobacco use, and lack of oral home care. The first virulence factor is dependent on the synthesis of water-soluble glycans from the disaccharide sucrose. By breaking down the glycogen this allows help for bacteria adhere better. Next virulence factor, Streptococcus mutans has the ability to become more acid tolerant and cell to cell communication. Once the bacteria is colonized in the bio-film it starts to produce an acidic environment below a ph of 7.(Kreth, et al., 2008) By doing so, Streptococcus mutans out competes any other organism living on the teeth or in the oral cavity. This leads to the third factor, which displays a production of lactic acid fro...

Streptococcus pyogenes is thought to live benignly within one in five people, and is thusly one of the most common pathogens among humans. Due to its common
Raelians Raelians also love hierarchy. They group themselves into six levels, ranging from novice to Rael himself, who alone occupies the 6th level. Cocolios is a 3rd-level Raelian and a "regional guide." Chabot, a 4th-level Raelian and a "national guide," sets up an interview with Lear, a 5th-level Raelian. Adherence to the movement and to another religion * Adherence to the Raelian religion excludes adherence to another religion.
“Satire is the use of humor, irony, or exaggeration to expose and criticize people's stupidity”. In the article from a mock press release, "The Onion", represents a new product called “MagnaSoles” which is described as the cheapest way out and is devoted to satirize the audience in order to emphasize techniques that companies use to get a hold of their consumers. The satire the Onion article uses illustrates how people are unable to properly judge their own flaws causing them to be gullible and easily deceived to what is in front of their eyes, evidenced by the pseudoscience the article mentions and the deceptive consumer testimonials.
Muckrakers were early twentieth-century reformers whose 1 mission was to look for and uncover political and business corruption. The term muckraker, which referred to the "man with a muckrake" in John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, was first used in a pejorative sense by Theodore Roosevelt, whose opinion of the muckrakers was that they were biased and overreacting. The movement began about 1902 and died down by 1917. Despite its brief duration, however, it had a significant impact on the political, commercial, and even literary climate of the period.
For many Americans MaraSalvatrucha or commonly known on the streets as (MS-13) is an unfamiliar gang but to (FBI) Federal Bureau Investigation,(ATF) Alcohol, Tabaco, Firearms and Explosives, and local law enforcement agencies,MS-13 is an uprising globalized menace of ruthless criminals who are growing in numbers exponentially. These plagues of criminals are not only making their mark here in the United States but they are deeply rooted in their country of origin, El Salvador and all throughout Central America with the exception of Costa Rica and Panama. From drug and human trafficking across the border, to murders, kidnappings, prostitution rings and drug distribution within the United States and other countries, MS-13 is a force to be reckoned with and is as problematic as terrorism for law enforcement.
Los Vendidos means the sell-outs. All the characters in the play sold-out at some point during the play. The characters sold out both their races and their way of life. I would say that the person who sold out the most was the Mexican-American because he sold-out both his Mexican, his American heritage and way of life. He wanted to be perfect, so when he found that the Americans and the Mexicans had their flaws he sold them out. He now has to search for a new and perfect race to identify with.
mutans was problematic due to its difference with Bergey’s Manual result for the catalase test. However, after comparing it with a peers results, it seems very possible that the strain we are working with varies from the strain used in Bergey’s. Bacteria possess the ability to develop varying phenotypes within the same species due to frequent mutation and horizontal gene transfer. Therefore, it is possible that the results obtained in our lab may vary from those provided in Bergey’s Manual. Arriving to the conclusion that the Gram negative bacteria was Klebsiella pneumoniae was much more direct. Using Bergey’s Flowchart for identification, the bacteria shared the test results and had a similar shape and
Muckraking was a powerful journalistic force, whose supporters made it become so. Muckraking was the practice of writers and critics exposing corrupt politicians and business practices. President Theodore Roosevelt made the term "muck-raker" popular. He once said
Over the decades and centuries many honorable people have come and gone. Their actions have shaped the world we know today. Examples of such people are Seikei, a fictional character but still an honorable one, Mother Teresa, and Ronald W. Reagan. Except for the fact that they are all virtuous these people are very different.
Recent events in Canadian politics have shocked the artistic sector in Canada. The conservative party of Stephen Harper attacked the arts and culture sector by cutting funds to some major art programs in the country. Art has played an important role in the development of societies around the world. Everything from social structure and religion to politics and military was reflected in various forms of art; from painting and sculpture to theatre and dance. Ancient Egyptians build pyramids and had symbolic depictions of deities. Ancient Greeks, the fathers of democracy, were the masters of pottery, sculpture as well as architecture and painting. In ancient times art was not isolated from science, philosophy and of course politics. Everyday political, social, military and economical affairs were reflected in the arts, and vice versa. Artists were the thinkers, and thought provokers of the culture. In the Renaissance artists were synonymous with progress, invention and liberalism. They were the builders and reinforcers of cultural value and tradition. Modern day is seeing a variety of art forms that reveal the culture that art is produced within. Canada is a country rich in history, traditions and multiculturalism. It is important to sustain and develop the art sector in Canada in order to maintain and “voice” Canadian culture and identity. Moreover, the art industry in Canada not only improves the cultural fabric of the country, it also showing significant revenue to the government. The Harper Government funding cuts to the arts and culture sector is an unjustified act of censorship. Underfunding of Arts in Canada will hinder the development of values and unity in Canadian culture and Identity as well as hinder freedom of exp...
Second part of the class, we learned about the Triunity of God. Trinity is not easy to believe, describe and to understand. With human thinking, we are incapable of fully understanding the triune nature of the infinite God. We cannot comprehend the power, love, and holiness that is present in such a being. However, God does want us to know of its existence though, and include many truths about the Trinity in Scripture.
For my field placement, I am supervised by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), M.V., at a county contracted agency in Los Angeles. Northouse (2012) describes traits as qualities for an individual. Hence, M.V. shares qualities for many traits that define her leadership traits. The first trait that I identified M.V. with having is intelligence, because of her superior language skills and knowledge about the program and agency (Northouse, 2012). Furthermore, M.V.’s intelligence allows her to be well respect at the agency, because of her appropriate decision making and hard work ethic. Staff members and interns respect M.V., because she is always the person to answer questions when they are unsure about specific procedures and policies. Moreover, M.V.’s intelligence allows her to also possess the trait of confidence. Northouse (2012) defines confidence as leaders that feel self-assured and feeling positive about one’s ability to succeed. Since M.V. is often the supervisor many view as a strong leader, her confidence comes from understanding the ability to make the decisive decisions. Furthermore, because of M.V.’s decisive leadership, her confidence allows people to be reluctant to question her decisions at the agency. Another trait M.V. shares is determination, which allows her to be focused and have the drive to complete difficult tasks in a timely manner (Northouse, 2012). Combined with her confidence and intelligence, M.V. is always determined to have perfect client files and notes finished in a timely manner. Moreover, M.V. takes the initiative to come in early and finish work later than other staff in order to complete administrative tasks at the agency. Alt...
When you think of a superhero one normally thinks of Spiderman, Batman, or Superman, but there were superheroes long before these characters were created. First one must understand that the basis of this name is hero. What is a hero? A hero is a person who does something special or out of the ordinary in order to help others. It could also be someone who is admired for a characteristic about them, be it physical or mental. They are individuals that normal everyday people can look up to. This being the case, a superhero is nothing more then someone who is a hero, but not just that once and for that one person, but someone who helps many people, or leads them. As time went by the number of people who were true heroes diminished and just doing something for someone was no longer big news. There had to be something more to make them stand out. The American culture needed someone or something to admire and that is where our common day superheroes come into play. It gave them a goal which could never be reached in hopes that people would never stop trying.
