The Space Race
NASA
National Aeronautics & Space Administration, also known as NASA. NASA is the American agency for aeronautics and aerospace research, and it was established in 1958 by the former President Dwight David Eisenhower. NASA´s purpose was the explore space in a peaceful and none military way, and the agency was operational on October 1, 1958. Before 1958 NASA was named NACA, National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. Since the moon landing in 1972 NASA has not launched any major space programs. For the moment NASA is supporting the International Space Station, but they are said to be working on a new project, which will take mankind further into space, than we have ever seen. The goal is to get a human controlled space rocket to land on Mars, but for now the technology is not good enough.

The beginning
The space race had its beginning in the 1950s. It were the two countries the Soviet Union and the United States, who fought against each other to become the first in space. The Soviet Union was first in space with the launch of the Sputnik 1 artificial satellite on 4th of October 1957, which meant, that the United States had to hurry, if they were not to be forgotten in the space race.
The origins of the space race can be traced back to the 1930s and the 2 World War. Back then Germany was the leading power, when it came to rocket- and missile technology. When Germany lost the 2 World War, USA and the Soviet Union got their hands on some phenomenal German scientist and really advanced rocket technology. Germany was more innovative in their rocket science, so USA and the Soviet Union were very happy to get the very much needed information. USA captured one of the best rocket scientist in world, Wernher Von Braun. T...

...ty. Who has not had the urge to know what’s over the next hill? What child has not been drawn to explore beyond the familiar streets of the neighborhood?
Finally, humans have, since the earliest civilizations, built monuments. Humans want to leave something behind to show the next generation, or the generations after that, what they did with our time here. This is the impulse behind cathedrals and pyramids, art galleries and museums.

Conclusion
To sum up The Soviet Union won the Space Race in the matters of sending the first manmade object and the first man into the orbit of the Earth. Afterwards the USA won the Space Race in the matters of a human taking the first steps on the moon, or did they? Many theorists think that the moon landing was a set piece. Whether they did it or not people, and especially the Americans are very curious to find out what is out there.
