When we are children, we aspire to be a superhero with unique forces and skills. We dream of changing the world, and many of us want to become firemen, doctors, police officers, and nurses in hopes of making a positive difference in numerous peoples’ lives. We start understanding step by step that the planet is so much larger than it had appeared when we were younger, and change is way harder to bring about. This realization of how difficult it is to really change the whole world sets in as we go onto the stages of adulthood. These realizations however have not discouraged me. I believe that merging young dreams and mature willpower can effectively progress the world on a certain level if we take action now. As Bertrand Piccard once said, “Pioneering spirit should continue, not to conquer the planet or space, but rather to improve the quality of life.” I strongly believe that the wellbeing of the people is one of the most central aspects of life. Today, encouraging a healthy community is not just a necessity, but also our responsibility. Our health is not solely controlled by personal choices and heredity factors, but is also influenced by the environment we reside in. I strongly believe public health is a powerful force needed to battle threats to our health. The field of science and the inner workings of the human body have always appealed to my interests. Numerous determinants can have a tremendous affect on one’s body and a community as a whole. As a biology major, my main goal was to expand my knowledge so it could be beneficial to me and on a larger scale the world that I live in. I came to realize that a career in healthcare was the best way for me to outreach and help others. This realization was achieved through the va... ... middle of paper ... ...r numerous patients who came for treatment were economically underprivileged, and I observed the adversity that had brought about. The doctors at the center combined calm and compassion with medical expertise in a thorough form of healing that I grew to expect, but infrequently witnessed in poor communities. I want to bring better healthcare to underserved populations with the same personal care and attention that I had experienced during this internship be the voice for these patients who are in need of proper treatment. I have been continuously participating in medical missions and other health-related projects, and although it is a challenge in the beginning, incorporating the importance of health to every individual has been a very rewarding experience.
