That may be the case for some, yet for others, Los Angeles is so much more then the rich and famous; Los Angeles is a land that holds many rich and diverse cultures; and with those cultures, comes rich, creative and ingenious cuisine. This LA treasure was first introduced to me when my mom brought leftovers home after seeing a friend. In a pleasing voice, she said “ Austin! Do you want to try real BBQ?” Thinking for a second, I responded questionably “ Real BBQ? huh, I guess.” As I walked into the kitchen, the intoxicating aroma of the pork ribs, brisket, and sausages, was a clear cut answer to my previous question; Real BBQ. Once I took the first bite, it was true love for this place. the meat on the ribs fell off the bone in such a manner that I knew whoever cooked this master piece, understood the fundamentals of excellent BBQ! In addition, the simple the spicy yet sweet BBQ sauce was a great addition to the already oh,so, great treat that I received. As I was finishing the food, I asked my mom, “Where did you find this place?” She responded, “ In the hood.” That being a vague statement, I pushed for more answers, “Where in the hood? the Hood is such a big place.” Eventually it came out Compton. Thankfully, the next time we would go down to the BBQ place in the Hood, it wouldn’t be in the Hood, my mom continued telling me that Bludso’s was expanding into Culver City; which was a sigh of relief on my part. Carousel has two locations; the original location dwells in Hollywood and the second in Glendale. Though from personal experience, the original location in Hollywood is much better; I can’t describe it, I feel that at the original location delivers a better overall dining experience. some favorites of mine that would be worthy of recommending are their wide variety of fresh and vibrant salads and dips. One of my favorites is the cucumber yogurt salad the crunchy cucumbers pare well with the savory garlic yogurt dip. Other favorites of mine include Tobouli, Baba Ghanoush which aside from hummus, is a great eggplant based dip that is perfect with fresh hot pita that they provide once you sit down. Enough of the salads! The main treat is their meat. Like the BBQ place, Carousels meat melts in your mouth on the first bite! the perfectly cooked Fillet Mignon is to die for! Another favorite is the Lula kabob. This mixture of ground beef, ground lamb and spices is amazing to accompany the platter of meat, comes bulgur. Bulgur is a type of wheat that when cooked correctly is delicious. Typically to end the already amazing meal, I usually have a cup of stifling fresh mint tea or if I am tired, a turkish coffee. Two locally owned famous restaurants in Sedalia, Missouri, El Espolon and El Tapatio, are both recognized as quality, authentic Mexican restaurants that serve Sedalia with outstanding service and great food. After paying each establishment a visit this past weekend, I have discovered some differences and similarities in the two. Although many of my relatives have chosen El Espolon as their favorite, I found El Tapatio to provide a more ethnic experience with their excellent food, sharp service, and clean venue.
One quality that is involved in a restaurant is the atmosphere and the positive energy it gives off. Considering the Western theme, they have the restaurant well decorated from the entrance, to the place where you sit. The walls are painted with tumbleweeds on them, with great lighting that allows you to see, and not go blind. The plates and silverware are very nice, as is the food that goes into them.

As I walked into my local small ethnic grocery store in my hometown for the first time I could not help but to be amazed. It was so neat to see the cultural art hanging around the walls and all the variety of different foods. El Cristal: Tienda Hispana is a great place to shop. When shopping in the grocery store there were many Hispanics that would come in and out of the door. Since the store has a dominantly Hispanic demeanor there was only one other Caucasian in the store besides myself. Most people of other cultures visit an ethnic grocery store when looking for something specific in a recipe where as someone of the same ethnicity buys a good amount of their groceries from there.

According to Fischer and Schwieterman (2008) the neighborhoods of Chicago are a veritable kaleidoscope of culture— colorful amalgams of languages, dialects, religions, and culinary traditions. One of those neighborhoods is Back of the Yards. This community was chosen as my project because of its rich culture and history.
The end goal of this proposal is to come up with a food truck that will be located in Harrisonburg. A demographic will be targeted and marketed to. The food truck will not be tied down to one spot but will, move around the Harrisonburg area, based on the ever evolving market. The food truck will come up with a specialized menu with a limited variety, but focus on quality. Many people do not like the monotony of everyday food choices, and often look for new places. The food truck will try innovative choices that break away from the monotony of everyday choices. It will be the goal to offer a niche food choices that are unique and can be made quickly and affordable. Not only will the niche food be offered but along with drinks and sides that complement the main food offered.
It expands all the way to the ricotta and truffle egg toast in Little Italy. The shrimp dumplings, rice noodle egg rolls and Xiaolongbao crafted over in Chinatown. Going all the way over to La Villita, or Little Village to sample the chilaquiles and the Taco de Soya pollo. Then we have Polish pierogies and Cuban coffee right downtown. But, it’s not only the food that is to be tasted it’s also adventure.You need that taste to venture out to Chinatown and to explore the different parts of the unkown. Food trucks are becoming increasing popular in the past few years. You can find them in every city and even some town in America. I’m not just talking about hot dog or ice-cream trucks. I am talking about the trucks that sell things like crab cakes, barbeque, fancy desserts, fish tacos, or upscale grilled cheese. The world of food trucks has changed so much. “People are looking at L.A. as a hotbed of the street food movement. (Robbins)” I think it has to do with the nice weather. Venders can sell food almost everyday. Also a lot of people live there and they all need to eat. Food trucks are a fast and convenient way to get good food. “During the first LA street fest the pair had anticipated they’d draw around 5,000 to the downtown event, not the estimated 20,000 fans who waited up to two hours for red velvet pancakes, mini banh mi, and lamb roti roll-up. (Robbins).” This was four times the amount of people they thought would show up. This tells us that they had a better idea than they ever thought. If people are willing to wait in for food from for two hours you know they must have something better. One of the great things about food truck is they are able to move around. They can go to the people. For instance, if there is a concert or a sporting event they can park right outside and people will just come to them. Also social media has had a very positive impact on food trucks. The trucks can post their location so people will know where to find them. People can voice their options about the food they have eaten. If a truck sees that people don’t like one of their items they can find out soon and start selling food people what to eat.
