In the future I want to become a zoologist. I have always been completely fascinated by animals and their growth and behavior. Many zoologists specialize in a specific field such as mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, and many more. I have not yet decided which branch I desire to specialize in but each one has its own appeal to me. However, becoming a zoologist is easier said than done. Before one decides to become a zoologist they should do thorough research to find specific requirements to earn their needed degree. Zoologists are required to have a bachelors degree. However, a masters degree or a PhD is preferable because the zoology job market is so competitive (Dorward). According to the website Collegedata, “The average cost of tuition and fees for the 2017–2018 school year was $34,740 at private colleges, $9,970 for state residents at public colleges” (What's the Price Tag for a College Education?). I am planning to attend a private college, and I am a Tennessee Promise student and am doing two free years at Pellissippi State Community College so I can expect to pay for only two years of private college which would be approximately 69,480 dollars. After I earn a bachelor's degree I plan to go for the master's degree which will be about two more years of college so the total cost to earn a bachelors and masters degree will be around 138,960 dollars. This is an average cost without possible scholarships calculated in. Zoologists need to have at least a bachelor's degree in zoology, biology, or wildlife biology (Dorward). My major is biology and the biology degree qualifies for zoology. In order to earn a biology degree there are many scientific class included.
