Who was the most infamous serial killer in American history? The most logical answer is the Zodiac Killer, based out of northern California. He was active from the mid 1960s to the early 70s terrorizing young couples. His publicity comes from the many letters and cyphers he sent into different newspapers in that area. In the letters, he would brag about the killings and taunt the L.A. Police Department. By the end of the letters in 1976, he had claimed to have killed 37 people, but the police were only able to confirm 5 murders. The first two victims in the winter of 1968, David Arthur Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen in the Lake Herman Road Murders. Arthur also had a basement that was searched, but nothing was found. The many sightings the Zodiacs face that match up with Arthur is baffling how they have never arrested him. On top of them looking the same, all of the people that heard his voice said that they sounded the same as well. Although this presents one theory, other theories about the identity of the Zodiac Killer exist. Some may argue that the Zodiac Killer could have been multiple people instead of it being Aruther Leigh Allan. Many believe that the Zodiac Killer was actually multiple people doing the murders, but only one letter writer taking credit for others' dirty work. There is no way that it could have been multiple people because of how similar the first three murders are. All of the murders were in, or near cars, and the first three all took place at popular lovers lanes where he targeted young couples. Similar weapons are also there, where in all of the murders except the stabbing, the same.22 caliber gun was used.
