In the book Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg, I believe that the story was very well written because it followed every literary standard, it was very easy and fun to read. The theme is compelling to readers because people are always trying to learn more about space and aliens and the unknown world that there might be. I think that movies about space are fascinating and this one had a very engaging theme. The elements that make up the story a fantasy are convincing, and consistent because it is a game board and it takes them to another world and when the game is done they are back to their world and house. So I think that it is well developed and makes people believe in it, especially kids. I would say that the readers are able to suspend disbelief when reading this book because the author uses every day things that could go wrong in order to make a story out of it, such as the brothers fighter, a robot getting out of control, and parents leaving the kids on their own. Another similarity is that they play the same game board that is called Zathura and it brings them to space. Even though the book and the movie have a lot in common it also have a lot of differences. One of the many differences is that the book shows the mother of the two boys and not the dad, and the parents are not separated like shown in the movie. One of the things that did not happen in the movie was a scene described as, “Danny was getting shorter and wider too, soon he was about the shape and size of a large beach ball.” One of the biggest differences is that in the book, Danny did not remember that he played the game after it was over only Walter did.
