Imagine living underground, but not knowing forever. This place they raise people not knowing that there was somewhere where there was light -- only knowing The City of Ember. Jeanne Duprau wrote this book. Lina and Doon know something’s wrong with Ember. They noticed that multiple blackouts have been happening in a week and have been longer. They are determined to find the way out of Ember and save the city. With hard work and determination they find there way out of Ember. The City of Ember has many similarities and differences between the novel and the film; however the film was a more entertaining experience. The book and movie have many similarities… but here are some of the main ones. The first similarity is the instructions are ripped. The reason that this is an important and main similarity is because if the instructions were not ripped the whole story would be backwards and they would make it out of Ember perfectly fine. The first one is Doon has a talk with his dad about the exit. This is important because in the novel Doon said that he wanted to surprise his dad, not tell him. Secondly, the mayor gets eaten by a beatle in the movie. This is important because this means that the mayor died in the movie, unlike the book. Lastly, they hide together. This is important because in the novel they hide in different places, and Lina got caught by the guards. The movie was better than the novel. The first reason is because the movie added more detail. For example, it added the mole chasing Lina and Doon, and the mole killing the mayor. Secondly, it has more adventure. For instance, when the river stopped and Doon almost fell!!
