"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." said Eleanor Roosevelt in her book, This is My Story. People like to believe that we live in the perfect world where everyone treats each other the way they deserve, but in reality, many people aren’t being treated right. Confidence is the quality many people wish they had and strive for. It is defined as a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities. For some, believing in yourself is easier said than done. Dr. Seuss's famous quote, "Why fit in when you were born to stand out!" has a good message behind it but is, once again, easier said than done. Some get made fun of because they are different and start losing their confidence and self-worth. These “less powerful” people in society have an even harder time getting their confidence up enough to stand up to bullying and start believing in themselves.

Some people will argue that bullying isn’t a problem, however, 28% of all U.S. students in grades 6-12 have been bullied. In a 2014 survey, about 30% of young people nationwide admit to bullying others. Those who are bullied start to believe others’ negative views, further taking away their already lacking self-esteem. The bullies have excess self-esteem by putting others down to make themselves look and feel better while the bullied are going down a path of isolation and rejection by their peers.
