Even with all the technology we have today, scientists still do not know exactly how the moon was formed. There are many theories, but that is all that they are. Two of the biggest, most supported theories are that of the planet Theia and the theory that the moon was formed from loose debris, from Earth's formation, gathered together by gravity. Although, no matter how the moon was formed, all life on Earth benefits from having it. Not only does it affect living animals, humans, and plants, but non-living things too! There are many facts about the moon, and with those facts comes knowledge of benefits.

First off, even though the moon wasn't necessarily the cause of Theia colliding with Earth, the collision is said to have changed Earth's physical and chemical properties. Most of the major changes fall under one broad, self-explanatory category: land formations. Common land formations include mountains, canyons, hills, land masses, and volcanoes. These land formations, along with many others, are very beneficial for us and the rest of our planet. These things we take for granted. Just think, without mountains, without canyons, without any of these things, what would we have left? Snow would be a very rare thing as it only snows in colder climates. That …show more content…

Although, there is one major benefit we are missing. Earth keeps the moon in orbit. In return, the moon calms, lowers, and practically controls our ocean tides. Without the moon, waves and tides would be unpredictable. Tsunami's would pale in comparison to all the tides and choppy waters. To add on, the oceans would be uninhabitable! Seafood, such as fish, would be scarce. Food would be hard to grow on farms if you have to find a place where no water will ever reach it. Therefore, with a lack of food and oceans, with no way to tell when the waves will come, Earth would be very hard to live
